  • Very well done! I was looking for something to inspire me beyond my rather basic version of this tune. This will be a great help. Thanks for posting it.

    Nils

  • @NilsNorling Thanks for watching. As Chet always said, "Anything you steal from me is Petty Theft" LOL

  • Very nice rendition skillfully played. Quite reminiscent of Chet's version. AWESOME!

  • @mitzvy I had the priviledge to talk with Chet a few times. Once I said, "I don't play it exactly like you do". In his caring compassionate way he said, "You're not suppose to; you're not Chet Atkins. Play it your way; you'll enjoy it more and other people will too." Thanks

  • I noticed that you had one dislike comment....What's wrong with the chappie? Obviously no talent.

  • @stevethecaptain I let negative comments slide off to the trash barrel. Thanks

  • I wanted to know if you have any other recordings. I have watched your magnificent piece over and over and I'll never tire of it. Bloody brilliant. By the way, I have a you tube video myself. It's called Son of Australia by Steve Power. Kind wishes Steve

  • @stevethecaptain My other recordings are on CD, I have a video that was taken during a TV show, but I can't separate the individual tunes to put on YouTube. I guess I could make the whole video available, I never had a request for it. I think I have 6 instrumental Cds. Thanks

  • Bloody brilliant. I have loved this tune since I was a kid and you have done a magical thing to it . Bloody brilliant Congratulations. I LOVE IT

  • @stevethecaptain Bloody good post, thank you. When I play for guitar players, it's one of the tunes they request.

Thanks for logging on, glad you like it.

  • this is awesome... sounds great

  • @gergersetzer You are most welcome!!!

  • Nice job! Sweet open voicings at 1'05".

  • @2Margaritaz Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

  • Hey, I enjoyed that

  • Wonderful! Adding this to my favourites.

  • Hmmm yes... I feel them there too, such a nice change that is. Beautiful!

  • Goose bumps set in at :52

  • Mine starts at 1:05. I love this tune. Thanks

  • My Dad is an old man now and I remember growing up as a kid listening to him play this song. He has retired his guitar and someday will soon follow. I get all choked up every time I play this back. Brings back fond memories. This song will always be in memory of my Dad. Thanks for nice rendition!!!!

  • I'm sorry to hear another thumbpicker no longer plays. At 66 I guess I will be following not too far behind. Please convey to your Dad my best wishes and thank you for your comments.

  • Excellent! Wish I could sit in and learn some licks from you.

  • Look me up if you're ever in Chattanooga, TN. You'd be welcome to sit in.

    Billy Denham

  • Hey Mr. Denham! I actually live in Soddy Daisy! I'll look you up.

    Joe Buck

  • Is that a Gibson?

  • No, It's a Yamaha AES1500B, but it does have Gibson CG pu's and pots. Thanks

  • BEAUTIFUL My grandpa has played for YEARS and he always loved this sond. He is not as good as he used to be now, but this music is the best there is.

  • Thanks. I've been playing since I was 14 and am now 65. And, I'm not as good as I use to be either.

  • Very nice :)

  • What i love about this version is, you have made it your own, and not tried to emulate chet. and may i add excellently done.best wishes fred. check out my vids and let me know what you think.

  • I had the priviledge to meet Chet in 1959. His advice to me was "Play it your way, put your own licks in and you will enjoy playing it more". I didn't have many personal licks then at 15, but I've never forgot his words. Thanks

  • He would be proud of this version, keep it going....Nice!

  • Thank you, I'll try.

  • Very good! love this song and how you play it. Bravo

  • I appreciate your kindness. Thanks

  • You can get the tabs and arrangements of tons of Chet songs including Trambone in the "Chet Atkins Vintage Fingerstyle" guitar book. By the way bg denham, AWESOME. Such great playing, so clean!!!!! :)

  • I appreciate it Mark, Thanks

  • I love this tune. I had it years ago on a Chet Atkins LP but lost it somewhere. You play it really well. Where can I get the tablature?

  • Very good. Love this tune

  • Many thanks, BD

  • once again.....bravo on a job well done!!!

  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

  • Wow, I remember this, it was actually the "B" side of Chet's "Blue Echo" 45. Of course it was before my time (though only by a few years :-) My parents had the 45, which I used to play as a kid. You do a nice job playing this song!

  • I had someone ask me why I didn't use the Bigsby tremlo on the tune like Chet did. My answer is 1) I learned the tune 50 years ago without a Bigsby, in fact I didn't own a guitar with a Bigsby tremlo until I was 40 years old. It's hard to relearn a tune after you play it 40 years. And 2) I'm no Chet Atkins. Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

  • wish i could find the duane eddy handling of this

  • I didn't know DE ever recorded Trambone. I bet it sounds good. I got to meet Duane in Nashville about 5 years ago. A very humble and genuine person. He's even a pretty good thumbpicker.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice rendition -- I learned it in 1957 when I was 11.I have an AES 1500 no tremelo.

  • I was 13 in '57 and for sure didn't have the skill to learn such a complicated tune then, you must be blessed with special skills. I had a listener ask me why I didn't use my Bigsby to play it the way Chet did. My answer was two fold. 1) I'm no Chet Atkins, 2) I played it without a Bigsby for 40 years; it's hard to change old habits. As you can tell, I changed the Yamaha pu's to Gibson CG's, I like the tone better. Thanks, Billy

  • I should clarify 'learned', I learned a version,

not nearly as good as you do here..I was 'blessed' tho.. with loving the guitar..thanks again--B

  • "Blessed" is right. I love the guitar too. My first love. Thanks, Billy

  • I don't read French, but I played a few times with Marcel Dadi. Now there was a picker. Still miss him. Thanks, Billy

  • c'est pas toi qui joue. menteur tricheur.. merci pour ceux qui bosse et qui sue; t'es un enfoiré

  • shut up!!!

  • sur quoi tu base ton commentaire?

  • Hot Dang, nice work

really takes me back to those days of

    yesteryear

  • Many thanks my friend, I'm glad you liked it.

  • Woah! That is very fluid and I love the guitar as well. I can tell you really love to play and not just fishing for notes as they just seem to flow! A real pleasure to listen to indeed! Cheers!

    -Jay

  • Loved it,very smooth,very fluid.Ur a true joy to listen to.

  • Thank you for your comments, I'm glad you like it. BGD

  • did you post a web site for the tabs of trambone??love to try it as i am a banjo picker trying the fingerpickin' on a guitar.thanks

  • really great pickin ive just started playing the guitar and was wandering where can i find tabs for chets music i kinda need it to be tabs because i cant read music if u know of anywhere i can find them that would be a great help thanks by the way i love ur gretsch is it a 58 original

  • I appreciate you kind comments. I learned 99% of what I play by listening to recordings or watching other pickers. I Have a few tabs of Chet's music, are you looking for anything in particular? I'm playing a Yamaha AES1500B with Gibson CG pickups and pots. I've had Gretsch guitars but never one that played and sounded this good Thanks for looking.

  • well the tabs i was looking for mainly are trambone'wildwood flower and humoresque if i hae then that would be great if u could mail them onto my youtube mailbox that would be great thanks again.

  • I believe you because that's what you say it's just odd to me that one who plays as well as you in that style hasn't worked that gadget in more. I play in that style also and using the bigsby came pretty easy for me. Access to a Bigsby is one reason I chose the Gretsch Atkins model guitars. It's a small matter, more of a comment than a criticism. You play very, very, well.

  • Thanks for looking. Your comments are taken in the same spirit they are given. I only use the Bigsby to tremlo a note, much like a singer does their voice. I agree the use of the Bigsby made Chet's tune unique. Thanks, BGD

  • Thumbs up, my pickin' friend ! As a fellow thumbstyler,

Trambone was one of my early favorites.

  • I don't understand why you don't use the Bigsby on that tune when Atkins clearly does. That's the core, the 'hook' of the tune. Having said that, you play very well. Particularly liked your closing on it.

  • I have a very good reason... I'm no Chet Atkins, working that Bigsby just right is hard to do. Just pickin is hard enough for me.

    Thanks, BGD

  • I sent you a message the same time I posted the last comment. I did get a guitar and have been playing again for about 6 weeks now. Hope to hear from you soon. I also hope you received my message. Check your inbox and let me know if you received it.

    JC

  • I can't believe that I was so very behind the times. If I knew I could watch playing like this I would have never stopped playing. Really Great! Never missed a note!

  • Well, get a geetar and jump in there, it's not too late; you're still breathing. I'll help if I can. BGD

  • Awesome playing! Very stylish and fun to watch and listen to. Thank you!

  • Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you enjoy my feeble effort at pickin'.

  • I really enjoyed watching this video, thanks! Good work!

  • I appreciate you looking and the kind comments.

  • Really nice playing Billy keep on truckin, take care Andy

  • Thank you and best wishes to you and your family. Billy

  • Sir, you are very good and appreciate your posting some of your playing here. Keep up the good work and hope to get close to your talent.

    donald- Raleigh,NC

  • Thank you for you kind words and good luck with you playing.

  • very well done.

  • gretsch right?

  • No Gretsch here, although I have owned 3 Gretches, none were as good as this Yamaha AES1500B. I must confess I did replace the original pu's and pots with Gibson CG. It is a beautiful Tigerwood Maple with a georgous orange finish. Many people think it's a Gretsch when they first see it. Thanks for looking.

  • I visited Chatanooga when I was 13 - great history and I only wished I played guitar back then! Really great sound you have there. Keep them coming!

  • Are you a fingerpicker? What guitar or guitars do you own.

  • Yeah I have been learning some of Tommy Emmanuel tunes - I own a Tanglewood TW-15 Acoustic

  • Very talented guy... you from the US? Love that tone too!

  • Yes, live in the USA, state of Tennessee, Chattanooga, home of the Thumb and Fingerstyle Guitar Players Association. Yours truly President.

  • great stuff as usual - I've never really heard the bridges before LOL - great stuff

    Hey !! - where's 'San Antonio Rose !'

    :))

  • I have to depend on my grandson to do my videos and convert them to my computer and he's back in college. He'll be in this weekend, we plan to do some recording then. I'll get to it. Thanks

  • great great picking! and what a good looking guitar.

  • Thank you, and it plays as good as it looks.

  • Fantastic! Your very skilled!

  • Thank you, you are very kind.

  • Great Billy.

    Terje

  • another brilliant version

  • First, the bad news...you're doing something I'm guilty

of, rushing it just a bit. Try at about 2/3rds that

speed, or tempo. Now, the good news...you've got talent!

Excellent picking! Good execution! Clean! Good tone!

Great job! Thanks for posting. More, please.

  • Thanks, I appreciate the comments. It seems I always rush things.
