Awwww why did they have to ruin the climax!? She is a brilliant pianist but how is there that much miscommunication between the pianist and conductor??? That was BAD but the rest is very very good.
When she starts at 10:50, there is absolutely no pause to allow the orchestra to get into the groove. She is several beats ahead of the orchestra and playing at a faster tempo.
How a pianist is able to learn this entire piece, but flub the most important part is beyond me.
I realize she is better than 99% of people will ever be, but one of, if not THE most important part of this was once again rushed.
Yuja Wang remains the only person I have ever heard this piece recorded by to play on tempo.
@itsanthonyhere Nope, she's not several beats ahead. The orchestra is several beats BEHIND. If you have a chance to watch the rehearsal video with her and the conductor, they agree that there will be absolutely no pause right there. The idea was to carry over the intensity of the cadenza through the orchestra. And personally, I hate the idea of pausing before the orchestra comes in. Yuja Wang sounds really mechanical that way.
So close to perfection but a little erratic. Dynamic technique and wonderful pace on the cadenza. She has astonishing power and a deep dramatic flair. I would love to hear her play this again in a few years. Even the great Horowitz sounded better with a little age. Yeol Eum Son, you are on par with anyone who has played this great concerto. Thank You for allowing us to listen.
You can't say she doesn't get into it! Completely bonkers in places but I suppose this piece needs it sometimes. Really excellent but still prefer Yuja Wang's version myself (Charles Dutoit conducting) even though I do find the insane parts of Yeol's performance quite appealing.
A formidable execution by one of the top young pianists today. Technically, she has no superiors, and her musicality surpasses many of her peers, IMO. This recording, from the VCC 2009, has its imperfections (what performance of this does not?), particularly from the orchestra and its conductor (having watched the rehearsal in real time).
@sumimimi0 What is "yeah, yeah, yeah"??? And if you're not wise enough to glean that I consider my taste the best (like I consider Son's perofrmance of thisconcerto the best among her contemporaries), then maybe you'd best reconsider your remarks before posting.

@itsanthonyhere HORACIO GUITEREZ
It only has like 1,000 views, but BY FAR the best interpretation of this concerto. Nothing comes even close.

a few idiosyncrasies that disrupt the flow in the cadenza, but otherwise a fantastic performance.

Some mistakes littered here and there, but a very fine, musical performance nevertheless...
