Its no different then if you view certain professional photos on the web. Some will have watermarks so that you don't use them for your personal use. It is easy to down load movies from youtube and put the parts together to make one full movie.

The watermark is there because he/she didn't register/pay for the dvd transfer. I tried using the tutorial version of one software to get one of my dvds to my iPod once but it stated that until I paid, there would be a watermark through the middle of the screen.
