Haha I really hope your joking around. Because I work at starbucks and we get the confused people but it usually takes them 2 seconds to figure it out. Also if they order a "small" we just say ok and ring it up as a tall. They don't need to know that we technically call it a tall!

Easy way to figure it out...where ever you are....look up at the menu. So that's how you order. It didn't need to be this drawn out. We all get it that Starbucks is overpriced...but we still go. There's no use in wondering why they don't call a small a small. It's just not. Move along, pay for your overpriced liquid crack (As I love to call it) and let the next schmuck....get theirs.

You forgot the "short," size. The reason a tall is the smallest size listed now is it wasn't always the small. It used to just be short and tall. Now short isn't on the menu but still available (at corporate stores at least).

I keep coming back to this, and love it every time. When i'm in an ornery mood, i explain to Starbucks' staff that we speak English in the USA, not Italian. And anyway, if they wanted to be consistent, they'd use an Italian word for their smallest size.

ive worked for starbucks for 5 years. and everything there is just a complicated name with complicated descriptions. and some of these baristas behind the counter are complete asses. not even sure about what they are talking about themselves. i, a barista, can completely understand where she comes from. i, also human, can associate with other people and call our sizes small, medium and large. and all drinks have difficult names. all drinks are the same. just a different flavor. its funny really

JEEZ people BIG DEAL SMall is called Tall. THere were only 2 sizes when Starbucks was first introduced and then came larger sizes but Tall still kept its name.
It was SHORT and Tall then added grande and venti.
