wow im an old school DJ from70s and i use to play this song in the clubs la fem, roseland , the original lime lite ,and the barefoot boy on 2nd ave in nyc where disco began i really miss those days
Dear Peep46 I have been trying to find a song by Johnny Melfi called "Have A Nice Weekend". Do you know where I can locate this song ? I once had the SUN album many years ago, but lost it.
I've heard this track dozens of time on Levan's "Live at the Paradise Garage" mix but never heard the beginning (before the 2:50 mark) or back end (after 5:30).
Picture- a Wed. nite in Oct. 76, center city Phila. all closed and boring - 1 exception: the DCA club, packed at 12 midnite (try that today). This song (and others), such elation they created, music that was studio-produced, played on newly perfected sound systems- the dancing, beaut. to watch or do, yet relaxed, not contrived or showoffy. (the look? polyester? no way!) Don't know history of "Sun's" creation but know the history of its effect - a kind of Utopia? Yes, for a place in time.
@radamik My God! I have been looking for this and thankfully I came across it here.
Now, I want you to picture a Saturday night, either at a club or maybe riding in your car listening to WBLS when it was in its hey day. They would play this and other disco hits minus the commercials and it was truly something, a special time.
@radamik ..........yes,yes,yes !! How about the Steps, Allegro, Equus,Second Story,Catacombs,Westbury and more I can't remember now.....and then taking a walk around the "merry-go-round" with friends before going to the diner at 4AM !! To be young again in those days........................
OMG chills every fucking time absolutely unreal. I almost wish I never heard this music because life without this quality is almost unbearable lol... the chord progressions ALONE honey
What u Talkin' 'bout Willis.....This is the jam of the decade 1975.....Please all those that know well what more can I say....mix it with Little Sister, 'I'm The One Your The One.....'nuff said
I actually first heard this is in a department store in a large mall. It was the second part of a mix with one of the Ritchie Family songs. I am thinking from the Arabian Nights album perhaps but it was a long time ago. I have this on 12" single. Greatness.
Mayday Mayday! cant find this song anywhere! for my IPOD!! Most Precious, song to ME!! Most of my partied friends passed away, need this Song!! . Love the Vocals.Instruments!! ..Just Priceless! a Gem, wanna it on my ipod :(
I definitely remember this one. I was a NY Disco DJ when I met Johnny Melfi in the mid 70's. Johnny and I became friends and I spent time with him in New York Sound where the tracks were mixed for "Sun". Many of you many not know but "Sun" and Jonny's other disco hit "Find My Way" were originally recorded as ballads (demos) by such artist as Frank Sinatra and Paul Anka.
OMG-this is my favorite disco song ever-you know the history of the creation of this song! So original, so beautiul, so perfectly "of the moment" in summer/fall 1976 (still awesome 33 years later!!)
I definitely remember. I was a NY Disco DJ at the time and became friends with Johnny Melfi in the mid 70's when I spent nights in New Sound studio where the tracks were mixed. Many of you may not know that this song along with Johnny's "Find My Way" were recorded as ballads by such artists as Frank Sinatra and Paul Anka.
I raemember just starting out & going to this closet size record store across the street from the Montreal Forum where the 12" was just starting to be introduced but still pretty rare & I pulled the salesperson to the side. i asked him if he had any 12 inch singles, he looked at me for a couple of seconds then from under the counter he pulled this classic.
this is my all time favorite album ...i was a dj then , and daaamn i dont even have a copy , lost it living my life, does anyone, the song i favored most was "have a nic eweekend" i think ...its was the3 rd or 4th cut, any body got it???
I always wonder what other people think about or what fantasies they imagine when they hear a particular song. What does this song make you think about.
This was one of those jams that has lived in my heart every since the days when it would mellow out a then murder capital New York City. The pitch was a slower as it played and it calmed a nervous city down. The break at 3:04 was played back to back and all you could hear was the sound of dancing feet in Brownsville Bklyn block parties! Oh Who else is able to remember those days!? Beautiful!
Another Disco side now regarded as a classic, played when new at Blackpool Mecca (by Ian Levine) in 1976. Reckon the Mecca would have give the Paradise Garage a run for it's money in it's heyday... LOL
Every time I listen to this it reminds me of.....short hair and mustaches and green army jackets worn over jeans tucked into Frye boots... oh yeah, the way people looked at the places I went to in Phila. (probably the same in N Y at 12 West and Paradise Garage)
RADAMIK is right..amazing(but you had to be there i think...)Tony and Kurt (RIP) worked this at the DCA in philly (don't forget second story and catacombs, allegro, steps) Tony used to work in Jackson 5 Forever came today..unbelievable..
My favorite 70's disco song EVER. This is THE song I think of when I remember Camille Paglia describing the 70's disco scene as a "tremendous cosmic vision of the world." Will always remember how it sounded played on the icredible sound system of Philly's DCA Club (the club whose legacy included "Hot Shot," co-written by its DJ, Kurt B. (can't remember how to spell it), as well as the place where tragic supermodel Gia Carangi was first discovered)
I have both the US & French Pyramid 12" pressings. They're not only different length mixes, they're also differently constructed; the former clocking in at 9:15, the latter at 7:44. I never get enough of listening to them. If you like this, get Jupiter Beyond's "River Drive" on AZO.
This is what i'm talkin' bout, a very rare disco gem, I had a 12" copy of this jam loved it and still do, it kind of sounded like the Jackson Five, it's been a long time we all thought and hoped that it would never end. Thanx "discorhythm" D.J. Jerry of L.I., N.Y.
