  • i was talking to my wee pal today&he mentioned your videos, this is very cool in my book, dont think i could do it though as my eyes aren't to good.

  • Hi Bdiddly1,

I hope you do have a go at tying, if your eyesight it's too good then I would recommend using a good light with a magnifier on it and the one I use is not exspensive, I'll send you a link to it...All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail -aye do that pal,cheers

  • Hi Davie, can you tel me where you get your microfibets from?

    Cheers.

    Pete.

  • Hi Pete,

You'll find that many of the shops that sell fly tying materials will be able to help you as there's a few companies that have them under a different name, the Glasgow Angling Centre also have them...

    All the best Davie

  • Thanks Davie, I'll check GAC.

  • Dear Davie,

Which turkey biots are you using. Wapsi?

  • Hi Itsabouttroutse,

Yes it is Wapsi Turkey Biots I mostly use which are excellent but I have also used Orvis and again are excellent both in colour and quality...

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail

  • Very nice work, You have some real skill, Like Dick Talaur, I took lessons from him. What size hook a 16 or an 18? Looks like a scud hook?

  • Hi BH206L3,

To be liked to Dick Talaur is a great honour, I thank you for that..The hook is a Kamazan B160 size 14 which has a shank length of a size 16 but the gape of a size 14 and to be honest with you tye it on whatever hook you like to use..

    Thankyou again..

    All the best Davie

  • Beautiful fly Davie! For how long have you been tying flies?

    Tight lines,

    Jonatan

  • @Jonatanost,

I'm glad you liked the fly and I started tying in 1983...

    All the best Davie

  • what type of feather are u using for the body?

  • Hi ursoccerdud,

The fibre I used to form the body came from a dyed olive Turkey Biot feather ...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie, I've read many books about fly-tying, and watched a lot of videos. I don't know how or why you can explain things in such a way that they become simple and doable. But, you can. I so appreciate all the time and effort you put into your videos. You're at the top of my "People I Would Most Like to Meet" list. :)

    Randy

  • Thanks Again, Davie! You are a real inspiration to tyers if all levels, and YouTube has

brought you into my living room. Bravo, and keep up the fantastic work.

  • davie, you my friend are a true tying legend. because I'm new to the fly tying world my dubbing technique is really bad. I've looked all over the web on dubbing tips and still found nothing that actually helped until i started watching your videos. i started to use your dubbing techniques (turning and twisting the dubbing). i can actually see the difference from flies i tied last week and this week.

Thanks and happy tying from North Carolina

  • I know what you mean, GatorFan! It's Davies attention to detail, professional insight and inspiring tips that i am sure have improved the tying ability of all of us that have seriously studied his brilliant videos! I have been tying for well over 30 years, off and on, but i have certainly learnt an awful lot from Davie these last few months! To be honest, i am awestruck, dumbfounded and all the other clichés, at my recent progress!

    Many, many thanks Davie!

  • davie why do you put the dubbing through the wing , davy.

  • Hi Davy,

Opening out the fibres with the dubbing will help give a better shape in the wing and as well allow it to throw the water when false casting, keeping it drier so you'll find your fly will float much longer..

    All the best Davie

  • you make it look so easy great fly

what happend to your claret snatcher video another great fly

  • Hi hearts52,

Thankyou...I'm going to redo the Snatcher video again very soon...

    All the best Davie

  • Hello Davie!

This is the same fly that Tying a Deer Hair&Cul-de-Canard Comparadun by Davie McPhail isn't?

  • Hi enfginho,

Yes this is the same fly that I had on my old channel...

    All the best Davie

  • Another well done fly, thanks Davie. One more to learn and try out. Do you do any still water fishing over there?

  • Hi azwoolybugger,

I worked on a stillwater for over 14 years so I got to experiment a lot with patterns and fishing methods..

    All the best Davie

  • hi davie your vids are amazing, along with your fly's, were do you get all the cool materials, I live in the usa :(, utah to be exact. we have some really good small streams around here and i was wondering if you had any sudjestions

  • Hi Trailsthatflow,

Most of the materials I used in the comparadun originally came from America. Here are a list of some that I have used; Montana Fly Company, Wapsi, Hairline, Hedron, Whiting,Collins, Keogh, and Metz all of these companies supply shops all around the world..

I hope this is of some help to you..

    All the best Davie

  • Thanks for putting this one back on. Great fly, one to go to when things are getting tough.
