  • come around sundown is a lil mess aka all over the place

  • I don't know about Dave but I would have shaken their hands.

  • Doesn't Nathan look like Jack Lawrence from The Dead Weather a little bit?

  • bad fase

  • KOL rock!... they are jst as good live as on cd.. unlike some shit bandss!! use fkn autotune n shit!

  • Letterman's had them on his show since Youth and Young Manhood. At least someone recognized their talent way back

  • @idoforensics Letterman is a dude and his musical director is, too.

  • @BTastings his faviourite song is everlong by foo fighters apparently

  • The most talented vocalist after Mercury, along with Patton

  • @ol0pl0x And Bellamy

  • @Erasedmuseum and Yorke

  • you know wats wild is that he always had that amazing voice and this video shows that.. so i really wouldnt call it selling out because i feel like "only by the night" was the first time he really sang to his potential

  • I just love the end of this fuckin song

    my god.!

    whatta voice caleb has.

  • I hate the way he changed "to beeee there'', he sounds so tinny compared to the way he sung it on the album. One of the only songs they can't do as well live, compared to the Album I reckon.

  • this album was their last bit of greatness, and my god it was great i just hope their next album has the balls that the first 3 had

  • Sell out is such a stupid term anyway...the new stuff is just as good, sometimes better. And if they can be on the charts making good music, that's cool with me.

  • I don't think they sold out at all. OBTK is only considered "mainstream" and "selling out" because it became so popular in America. If they had stayed under the radar with that album like they did with every other album, nodody would be accusing them of selling out.

I also find them to be the same brilliant guys they were when they were fresh out of Nashville.

So i think it's about time ppl stopped calling them "sell outs" they're AMAZING

  • Spot on.

And aside from that, people really need to LISTEN to Only By the Night. Sure, Sex on Fire and Use Somebody are what everyone knows, but there's AMAZING gems in the album like 17, Revelry, and Manhattan.

  • @Tman376 my favs are manhattan 17 be somebody and closer

  • so true! They found recognition because brilliance always gets recognition eventually

  • @nblBer

I agree the best bands usually get at least a degree of commercial sucess, if not they were not as great as their fans thought as too few people agreed.

  • Aw. Nathan at 3:43. nervous?

    ahh, so good

  • That bass is tooo sexy

  • Damn if this boy doesn't have a great voice too. Raspy. I'm really impressed with these guys.

  • He might have had a sore throat have you considered that? Sounds great to me but then i am a fan.

  • Caleb seems to be struggling to reach the high notes. Still an awesome song live and in studio though.

  • This version sounds so much better than the album version. A few of you on here have to agree with me. Just the way its done here, pretty much all live versions of this sound better the the studio version. Is highs sound good to me.

  • is that a micro korg?

  • @ellioteaston93 indeed it is

  • Yeah it is. I've seen another version of this live and you can see the front of the keyboard and it says Micro Korg.

  • yep a micro korg set to hiphop on setting 8 octave up

  • David has great taste in music

  • the letterman likes Kings of leon ! they performed 5 or 6 songs

  • the way jared played the keyboard loook funny.. love these guys!

  • haha its like hes REALLY concentrating and finds it hard

  • did they play another song on this show?

  • Willing to bet Letterman's favorite song is Sex on Fire. Anyone?

  • Hahhahh :P

  • I bet its soft

  • HAHAHAH

  • LOL! That's funny.

  • @BTastings thats everyones favorite who doesnt listen to music.

  • @BTastings his favorite song is everlong by the foo fighters. hes said it before.

  • oh they rushed like a motherfucker tho in some spots... and when the drummer playin relativly simple and very repetetive stuff its fairly noticable

  • dude you have no idea wtf your talkin about, so you should probably shut up..

  • @keithmoonprogidy you have no idea

  • flawless !!!

  • i think the text comments sgould all be removed...every single one of them are irritating....why don't you all just shut up...noone actually cares what any one of you thinks....and yes, that includes me...

  • OKC...October 3rd...geez I can't wait!!! These guys are too good!

  • I am inlove with this band.

  • THAT song makes me weak...

    love it..."

she said call me and i`d come arunning"

letterman gigs always kicks ass...think about mute math etc

    thumbs up

  • KOL rocks!

  • this bass line is fucking epic.

most of their songs bass lines are

  • They kick ass live!

  • whenever i hear this song it reminds me of what KoL are about...just making fantastic , meaningful music

  • That's right!!

No comercial SH** Just awesome music!!

  • great song :Dlove that bass riff

  • how can u fault these guys? they were under the radar for years then get recognition and come out with a great, pop , commercial record that was because of the times. no sell outs here just good bloody music

  • Jus Love Them So Much

  • such a sweet solo

  • ya estoy esperando que vengan a México! yeah!

  • perfect performance

  • they are not simple if you want simple look at all the gay bands like green day and simple plan

  • they wernt a band in the 90s wank stain you suck big time

  • agree with simple plan but green day isnt gay ^^

  • @benrox26

    simple doesn't mean bad man

their songs is simple, it is

    but it's good as hell.

  • @benrox26 No doubting KOL are more complex than the "gay" bands you named, but theres no doubting Green Day write catchy singalong tunes, just go to one of their live gigs and see the energy... Never seen KOL live, but known and loved them since their first album along with strokes, libertines etc etc... Can't call a band "gay" because you dont like them

  • @benrox26 ya. whoever thinks there simple obviously isn't paying attention. They don't do more then they should. They play for the overall sound of the song. Putting a part in just for the sake of it is a mistake a lot of amateur musicians make. A band is a team and Kings of Leon understands that as good as any band out there. Look at Pink Floyd and Primus. Their music stays simple until it is absolutely necessary to complicate things.

  • Trying too hard and over complicating is an amateur mistake which Kings of Leon are too intelligent and professional to make. Green Day is a bad band because they have one sound and havn't evolved at all since they found it. Both bands discovered how to make their music commercially relevant but Green Day couldn't expand. KOL have changed and gotten better with every album while at the same time never losing touch with how they got there. Thats why KOL is an amazing band and Green Day isordinary

  • @0F0cusEnergy0

you obviously never listened to dookie or something, they were actually a respectable (pop)-punk revival band until they came up with american idiot; if you couldn't find out about that jarring transition then you know shit about music all together.

  • kinda looks like jason mewes with the hair.....

  • clungepuncher .. thats probably the best name i've ever heard :L

  • They were awesome last night in Manchester. Can't wait to see them @ Leeds Fest now!! :D

  • Cant wait to see them at oxegen this year yup daaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

  • Hahaha. I have that keyboard he's using. When I got it, I found that sound in the preset and was like "hey! this sounds like kings of leon!" turns out it was.

  • wat kind of keyboard is it???

  • it's a micro korg synthesizer

  • Yeah. It's a microkorg. They're kind of expensive, but they're considered the budget synth. It's got a decent sound, and they're small, so they're easy to keep on the side for quick use if you play another instrument (in my case, guitar).

  • Oh bro, you commented on the wrong video. I think you must've closed out of whatever Arcade Fire song you were watching.

  • nope, pretty sure it was this one. let me give it a second listen....yep, still annoying, redundant, i'm even more convinced now that after two times he must've pissed off as a result of the annoyingly boring bass line. but i digress. bro.

  • Opinions are opinions are opinions. *on the topic of brozing, pounds it*

  • i think the basslines fine but it repeats a whole lot.

  • Just like baselines in 90% of songs

  • not exactly.

alot of songs have transitions or different notes for a different section.

    not this song.

  • You Rock guys..................xxx

  • flawless. :D

  • is jared using any effects here to get that sort of blunt tone out of his bass?

  • i think he might just get it as clean as possible and not sure but he might mute it after every note

  • It sounds as if he is simply palm muting and using a delay pedal set to extremely quick feedback/delay time.

  • can anyone tell me what amp the singer is using?

    Is that a machless chieftain?

  • KOL....seen them in columbia with pearl jam. These guys put on a nice show. Thanks for the post.

  • All hail the followills!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank god a good band finally broke through

  • the band has always ben awesome.. u just woke up

  • yeah no shit fuck hole to bad i wrote that before i saw their lame ass concert which they charged 50 dollars and only played 1hr 30min what kind of rock n roll band playes1hr 30min sets this guys really dissapointed they have enough material to play all night long.

  • probably cause you were there.

  • huh dick hole?

  • bands tend to play short sets if the crowd is full of dumb asses

  • probably because they dont give a fuck

  • Well yeah because you were there

  • So we all agree your a dumb ass

  • yep

  • I'm like in love with this band.

  • maaan...matthew's guitar solo is fantastic

  • rec engs need to realize that in perf w acoustics, the mix in/out and board job also is part of perf. arent at least glad that you at least get to contribute? and yes, live and recording's different, why? because they are two different things. and they kick butt playing this live, go check out their live show IF you arent too booked up for your sessions man.

  • I heard this played live for the first time at T in the park in scotland last yr and i had goosebumps - I have seen a lot of live music but i dont think anything could beat that! you should look for the vid it still manages it when i see it again - I should be seeing them again this yr but my friend has decided to get married that day - you can not belive how gutted i am!!! wot to do - bail!! i'm so tempted lol!! this song is even better live!!! xx

  • Comment removed

  • really? I've seen KoL live, and they sound good, but they are boring live. <ost of the time they jsut stand there.

Best live abnds I've seen have been Muse (who are by far greater than KoL in live shows) and Editors (who too, imo, beat KoL in live shows).

  • ive seen muse :D

the only big gig ive been to..

  • u wish m8 its about the music they play not the dicks ur bands are

  • again, read the other comment i wrote. who's gonna pay 40 bucks to see a band jsut stand there? Ill rather get a DVD thanks. anyways, KoL hardly change up thir tunes live too. at least Muse adds outros, extra intros, different solos, and almost every time, songs do not sound so damn similar to each other.

ive seen Muse live 3 times and KoL twice. every UK act I've seen have always been great whie msot US acts I see jsut stand there. i hate that.

  • Well you probably like their music, that is why you would go and see a band live, right? well why would they fuck with something that you already like and are expecting. i understand how you would like some difference. but why would you want it on all the songs.

  • Why are you guys fighting???

I am a HUGE fan of both Muse and KOL and I've seen them both live.. My critic: They are BOTH insanely AMAZING!!!

Matthew brings a ot of energy to the stage and Caleb has more of a quiet vibe but that doesn't mean that he lacks presence!

They have different personalities and sounds and the lyrics of their songs are not similar so you cannot expect them to perform the same way!

Take a song like 'Trani' for example..Can it be compared to 'Bliss'? The answer is no

  • it seems u know your stuff man.:)

  • seen them 3 times, best live band in the world. they dont need to act like fags and whirl around the stage, like the greatest bands they let the music talk...end of.

  • wow. ive seen Muse live 3 times, and KoL twice. you're delusional. Muse is two times better live. why the fuck am I going to apy 40 bucks to see a abnd just stand there acting cool?

Matthew Bellamy jsut twirls around cause he's talented. Muse have been active live since before they were even kmnown, since acting as opening abnds. don't believe me? look up Muse Cave live in Germany I think it was.

KoL are NOT the best live band.

  • Well muse is the equivalent to radiohead so to make up for it they have to have cool live shows. KoL... well they're one of a kind.

  • i saw them live yesturday at the forum, they were brilliant. best american live abnd ive seen in a arena. they blw me away. though my best concert is still Muse.

  • they need to rush it a little, they are on tv so they cant just play it out like they would at a concert

  • Just unbelievable. Sounds like the original.

  • Thats what strikes me about this band. His voice is so spot on, and the instruments are just like you remember them from the track.

    Its pretty amazing.

  • Canadians love them

  • Does anyone NOT love them hehe?

  • this guy has the most soulful voice...

  • they rush and speed up a lot in this performance.

  • they do rush this performance

  • Tight! Goose Bumps!!!

  • Jared looks like a lil kid at the beginning when he's playing the keyboard :P

  • It's crazy to me that all of America wasn't instantly turned into obsessive Kings of Leon fans after this performance...

  • what idiot gave u a thumbs down for that? i agree 100%

  • april 21st and i am~

  • who is going to see em live on april 22nd i am!

  • Amazing

  • frikkin amazing

  • sick!!!!!!!

  • how old are these guys???

  • at this stage they were 22, 24, 25 and 29. Well, approximately

  • no not really at all lol

  • such a great band!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG AAAAAAH

  • fucking awesome!!!

  • God, for sure.

  • i saw them live before

an trust me their always amazing

    i <3 KOL

  • how bowt them guys>?

  • their family they cant break up

  • What about Hanson?

  • well said

  • Comment removed

  • hanson you freak

  • love the song! love the band! great voice! whew!

  • It's really cool how he ends each line in the beginning, it sounds really weird, like an abrupt cut-off.

Really great live band haha, not many of them around today

  • yeah, theres an effect on the mic I guess, not sure how they do it live, but on the record...it was the first song that they used effects on his voice in.

  • such a great live band, remember seeing them last summer at oxegen put so much energy into it!

  • why doas caleb mess himself up? drinking does no good to him and the band. hope they won't break up...

  • it's what the band is about xD

  • i'm so glad he sounds live just as good (if not better) as on records!

  • fucking pricelesssss, it'll be a classic in less than 5 years

  • WOOOOE what a voiceee... theyre so good live !!

  • All Hail the Kings!

  • love how he stresses his words

  • i love this band!

its amazin how they sound the exact same live as on the cd!..

    (: x

  • ..........BE THERE.......BE THERE!

  • yess the bassline kicks,,love it
