@edrebel do inform me with your higher learning of who was here before maori if you can answer this i suggest a change in career and teaching in a one of our many University of Aotearoa (New Zealand) ..do you know what the Hokoio is??
"Indigenous" means "the first ones there." That means the Maori do have ownership of the land and the sea around the land. The Pakeha (Europeans descendants) have benefited for two hundred fifty years at the expense of the Maori people. The Pakeha have forced their will upon the Maori in an arrogant and belligerant manner. The audacity of the some of the Pakeha is amazing.
The Maoris are benefiting from the sea's resources and have equal access to the foreshore like everyone else. They want exclusive access and ownership at the expense of all other New Zealanders. They're not indigenous and that their ancestors arrived on an earlier boat gives them no special priviliges.

If indigenous means first ones here then maori are definitely not indigenous.
There are well established archeological records which show that NZ was settled by various groups long before maori arrived.

Both Maori and Pakeha fought and died for this land(that includes the seabed),in the world war.
Without the sacrifice of those people we would'nt have it.Leave it as it is out of respect for them.
