Had this car as a rental when I went to America. It was very nice inside especially the rear view camera in the mirror, 2010 model. Shame the acceleration was shit.
if Ford is to succede it has to eradicate the legacy models (keep the best sell the rest) right now there are too many. It's just a black hole for cash, branding, dealership, marketing!
They are succeeding. Before every thing went to hell Ford was beginning to to turn profit. Starting out with 100 million in the first quarter.
What do you mean "Its just a black hole of cash?" The taurus is one of Fords best selling cars, and a lot of people LOVE them, My bother in law at a 500 that he really liked.
It's about damn time Ford gave a damn about the Taurus again. The 3rd and 4th generations were either too radical or to blan. Not to mention the 3rd and 4th generations quality wasn't nearly as good as the the 1st and 2nd generations quality when Ford really cared about the Taurus instead of worrying more about how many fleet cars they could sell to rental car companies like they did with the 3rd and especially the 4th generations.
This is a great way to show the car....kind of like an extended "vintage" commercial that focuses on the car. This gives me more reason to "go American"...I think we're catching up to japan and germany, believe it or not.
I wanna see an SHO version of this thing with a V8 and rear wheel drive. They could get over 300 HP easily. But, I doubt that'll happen. Even if it did, they'd probably make it front wheel drive...
The combination of improved performance and fuel economy is impressive, great looking car too. Ford is moving in the right direction with cars like this.
that new taurus is VERY nice. the interior is frikken gorgeous. my only problem with it is that its not as sporty as the outgoing model. but hell, its better overall. excellent job, Ford
I'm so glad they're bringing back the Taurus. I couldn't believe it when I heard they were stopping production. I said "That's not possible!". I liked the older styling a lot (both the 80s and 90s styling), and I like this styling just as much. The new one is FAST. It is a larger car, though, so the MPG is not incredible. But I want one!
The New taurus is so nice! i want one! but i have to say the transmission in the Mercury Montego (same as the new taurus, my grandma owns one) it seems to shift too early, too many gears make a standard 5 speed auto transmission.
Since when do Nissan and Honda build good looking cars?? Unless you're going to tell me the Versa and Element look nice because then I'll laugh. This Taurus is a 100% improvement over the prior model because of the higher horsepower and the better looking exterior.
wow, they made the new Taurus ugly as hell. The front looks like a Saturn. Why can't American car makers get it together and make a good looking vehicle like Nissan/Honda and others??
Owensry, are you serious??? I'm owner of Taurus and I can't wait to buy Toyota again. I had Corolla 17 years old and I invested $300 (three hundred)in repairs. Can Ford match that?
My uncle has a Ford with 600,000 miles (he used it as a taxi & then he painted it black & now uses it as a regular car...still!!!)Zero repairs, all maintenance!!! Can toyota beat that???
I'm comparing this to the Five Hundred, I will tell you all that it is selling far better than the Five Hundred. I'm on the road everyday and I see more of these new Taurus's on the road than the 3 Y?O five Hundred. Clearly it's a hotter selling car. Great features, Decent price and Comfort, and reliability has to be good because the Fusion, Milan, and Five Hundred have proven reliable so far.
It may look like a 500 with a facelift, but it's anything but a 500. a lot of knew features were added to seperate this car from the 500. This was a smart move by ford to bring back the Taurus name. Everyone knows what a Taurus is and who makes it. No one knew what a 500 was let alone who makes it. Plus it would have cost ford 60 million dollars or more in marketing just to get as known as the Taurus. I'm glad they got rid of the CVT. My friend has a 500 and the CVT never felt right.
My dads in the car business and I travel with him to DEALER ONLY Car Auction. I've test droven a Freestyle and 500 both with the CVT. It just feels so weird while driving. I don't know how reliable it is but I see 05 freestyles with 80k and FWD going for $7500. With CVT but still a good deal. I might go for one. As long as the CVT is reliable, I don't mind.
Thats very sharp, it looks alot better than the Five Hundred. Enough said... and toniason, you can take your piece of crap car jump in your trunk and have the president of Toyota drive you off a cliff.
Actually if you pull up the inflation calculator and you type in $17,995 which was the starting MSRP for the 1996 Taurus you will end up with $23,029 in 2006 dollars (it won't do 2007 yet). The 2008 Taurus has a starting MSRP of $23,245. Considering it has more room, a lot more safety features, more power, and a much better chassis I would say it is a great deal.
Beautiful Taurus and Nice Limited with the Merlot Color, But truthfully i don't believe that it will sell very well because it is more money than the old taurus, and ford's lease rates have gotten outrageous.
Great looking car and I love the Merlot paint. It will never sell as well as the old Taurus but I am glad the name is back. And FYI Five Hundred was supposed to be the new Taurus anyway but the brass at Ford wanted to name all their cars with the letter F. They need to make a hybrid version to make it more fuel efficient though. I hope it is as reliable as the Fusion too, Id love to see Toyota have to share the old reliability tagline with Ford.
It's a Ford Five Hundred, which you introduced while you were still building the old Taurus. Two similar sized cars, and the Five Hundred was more expensive. No wonder it didn't sell, which is why you had to do this slap-dash name change.

In my experience with Ford vehicles, the only reason I got rid of them was due to high mileage.
I've never had to do anything major to them outside of regular maintenance.
Even now, I drive an '01 Escape with almost 200,000 miles on it, and the only issue I've had were the coil packs had to be replaced.
FTW Ford!
