  • Can't keep from moving!

  • RIP JUNIOR WALKER

  • I saw Junior at the N.J. State Fair in the 80's. He could really blow. Real "live" music by real musicians. Nothin' fancy no strobe lights or special affects just playin' and singin'. Nothin' like the good old days. RIP Junior you are missed.

  • I don't care which rendition is played, there all great!

  • Great ! Great ! Great ! That's Best I can Some Up Jr. Walker & The All Star's ! Super ^5

  • Even the live version sounds ssoohh good!! R.I.P., Jimmy.

  • Is John Anderson playing a different song?

  • Seen Junior one time in Philly with some other oldie groups and Junior stole the show with his horn and Jam.This is good stuff. Thanks for posting!

  • Only thing coulda' made this performance any better(?) woulda' been

    CP Spencer,Freddie Gorman,Hank Dixon & Walter Gaines.....The Originals,

the original "Fella's" who sing back-up on the original recording.

Johnny Bristol was one great producer.

  • Jr Walker 4 ever!

  • Junior Walker has been underrated all these years. Magnificent song here.

  • Awsome

  • Fantastic sound. You rarely listen to anyhthing that comes close to this these days. It is indeed a unique performance by Jr. Walker....of course it must be decades old for Letterman looks like a teenager....those were the day for good music.

  • why is paul schaeffers piano so loud in the mix? totally sucks it

  • @midlocal Because Paul Schaeffer's ego is his volume control.

  • Nao me canso de ouvir a musica e maravilhosa...deliciosa...amo ...amo...

  • His saxy is so sexy!

  • He could play the @#%& out of the saxaphone.-DenasMomma128

  • Looks like Neil Jason on bass instead of Will Lee

  • Patterson HS, class of '68, Jr Walker played at our Senior Dance. Priceless

  • junior walker the MASTER BLASTER!!!!!

  • R.I.P. Junior Walker!!!

  • Not enough time and respect given to a music legend.

  • this guy is a freak the way he can in a heartbeat go from blowing his guts out into the sax, to singing with not even a half second gap in between, freakish. A normal human would need at least 10 seconds to regain some air in their lungs, not our Junior

  • @BaldingMusicFan

I've wondered how does that also! He has the gift.

  • That band really come together, on a great tune.

  • great great -Mr Walker

  • '1977'

  • @Notstrongbow was that with the temptations?

  • @AlexlloydSAX

    Yes, it was......Temptations line-up was I think......Melvin Franklin,

Otis Williams, Dennis Edwards, Richard Street and Damon Harris.

    It was a great night.

  • This is so good!

  • Lucky the original singer didn't show up for the gig that day....go Jr.

  • Thanks Junior for the such a great music!

  • Love Jr walker . shame about the prat who sneaked in with the tambourine!

  • Nice song!

    JR. Walker is incredible!

    ktf

  • amazing

  • jr couldn't have done it without that great voice, just opens up his mouth & out it comes, doesn't even have to try.

  • Damn, that is Junior Walker! Say when was this, what year was this. I wonder how old was he then. This version was somewhat different. But I still LIKE It! Hey, did you fellas know his real name was Dewalt?

  • Actually, his last name was "Mixon" to be precise...This was taped Nov, 1985, so with Jun being born in 1931, he would have been 54...

  • What a sax player, I've learned a lot from him, when I'm improvising I noticed a lot of influence from JW...

  • Wow, I love this. Most rare and excellent performance on Letterman. This is an amazing live video clip.

Thank you Moodyjunior for bringing this rare performance to us. Much appreciation.

  • The drummer turned it on for the great Junior Walker, and he (Walker) had a great time with the band. The drummer popped and snapped it - great bottom rythym going steady. Walker's horn is so live you just become alive to it, to the umpteenth degree. He is enshrined in the history of music for all time.

  • this is really good!!thanks 4 uploading this

  • Someone should have tied the tambourine players hands behind his back! :)

  • Thanks Moodyjunior for this music video!!

  • great tune by junior!!! classic performance here.. jon anderson a great inspiration himself.. loved him with yes on fragile album and 90125 .. positive music in a terrible world1!! thanks!!!

  • THE BEST BY FAR, he loved for people to enjoy his music...

  • one of the best to ever play the sax! god bless him!

  • Nice performance, doesn't have

the precision of the recording, but so what.

  • Oh, this shaking on this one of my favs songs!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

  • I wish Letterman would still have class acts on his program like this instead of the childish no-talent crap that's on there now.

  • @garypatton I AGREE!!! Three reasons: Ratings. Teenaged girls. Corporate bottom-line. Sad, but true. Then again-surely teenaged girls can be trained to like REAL music!!! I'll go out on a limb & say that what I see is the emasculation of music. Biebers, Gagas, & "female empowerment" bullsh#t" (& girls loving girls-to hell with men) seem to be what girls want to hear now... Consequently, though girls/women may enjoy it for the social engineering value, & the Oprah crowd may too-the music SUCKS!!!

  • @bookguitarguy no, they can't. everyone pitches to them these days. who can make them get the wettest gets the hit. same with phone in reality shows. teenage girls do most of the calling in there too.

  • @wonderboyjoy I hear you. Well, at least WE know what good music is. :O) Peace brother.

  • Blow Junior blow it baby!!!!

  • wow!

  • GREAT POST!!

  • Junior still knows how to blow that horn. His music is timeless.

  • Jr Walker damn! Getting old sucks but songs like this makes me feel glad to be alive. I believe this song made it big in 1969. Thanks for the memories Jr Walker.

  • The True Top Soul Saxophone Legend ! born Oscar G Mixon later changing birth name to Autrey Dewalt Jr and subsequantley Junior Walker with the All Stars with Motown already having previous recording sucess and good record sales !!! his Motown records hung deservedley so on the wall of fame for his top record sales ! sadley passed away aged 64 losing his battle with cancer.rip.Renowned Sax playing perfectionist held in greatest esteam by all known.Superstar Status Musician ! • I live in venezuela remember this old disco song, blow up in caracas today dissapear the pleace.

vivo en caracas venezuela esta cancion me recuerda una vieja disco de nombre blow up hoy desaparecida

  • Thanks Moody for this posting and I would like to share something with all:

The exacted date is irrelevant but sometime in '82 or '83, in Toledo, Ohio @ the Ramada Inn on Renolds Rd. by Southwick Mall, Jr had a 3 night engagement of which I was there all 3 nights. The 1st. night was a modest crowd and was able to talk with Jr like old friends and told him my childhood listening to him on The Big 8 CKLW and I coined a frase about him 'The Sulten Of Sax' and he loved it and all my drinks FREE!

  • One of my all time favorite songs!

  • I love Junior Walker's music, especially, 'what does it take' what a smooth and exceptional piece of music. Mank thanks for this post.

  • Best Sax Ever!

  • He could make a saxphone sound so sexy. Has he been inducted to the Rock n. Roll Hall of fame.

  • No, he has not, and probably will not, which is a crime, but, it shows the political gamesmanship that the RRHF consists of......

  • RRHOF to me is a joke now anyway. It is all about "who can we put in that will attract viewers to VH1?" With acts like Madonna and the furios five getting in I say forget the rrhof.

  • Absolutely luv his music....should have got more recognition when he was at Motown. But then it must have been hard with so many other great artists & musicians...

  • Hi, Nice video!!! is there a place i can download or buy it with good quality? no youtube compression

    Excellent post, thank you!

  • We agree!

    Thx for sharing Dori!

  • I remember this episode. Great playing. For years I was wondering who the crackhead was that hogged the interview afterward. Turns out it was Jon Anderson from the rock band Yes. He acted like a total jerk. Junior, as always, brings the class.

  • What are you referring to? Was there more interview after what we see here--because Anderson doesn't "hog the interview" at all. EVerything seems really cordial.

  • I guess Jon shouldn't have responded to Letterman's question about his new album, Three Ships. Far from being a crackhead and jerk, the very spiritual Jon Anderson is one of the most serious, prolific and seminal influences in progressive music. His friendship with Junior Walker led to this memorable performance, and his affection for Junior is evident throughout the interview. Too bad you remember Jon as a jerk; check out his work with Yes and his participation in many humanitarian causes.

  • @shatchett0 whoa... whoa!

  • It is so wonderful that future generations can see this great musician and his wonderful arrangement of music.
