  • When I heard this I was sure it had been written by the Bee Gees. Mann/Weill couldn't help but notice the success of the brothers Gibb and were probably trying to hook into their audience. McCartney once said he and Lennon did their best work when they were trying to imitate other writers (like Dylan or Smokey Robinson). This song came out so great and really showed the versatility of the Monkees, if they weren't legit performers, like many critics claimed, they couldn't have pulled it off.

  • This is a wonderful song from about 1967. The Second World War was just 22 years before that, and by 1967 the world had changed a lot.

  • I have always loved this song

  • Can anyone remind me why The Monkees are not in the Rock n' Roll hall of fame?

  • when the world and I were young just yesterday cod was such a simple game a teen could play it was easy then hack from glitch easy then to tell my cp on the fritz

  • what if there was no absolutes in our morals at all?

  • Thank you!!! I remember watching reruns of the Monkees, singing these songs with my friends, and falling in love with Mike Nesmith! It must of been the hat! LOL But oh!!! Davy Baby!!!

  • I loved this song as a kid but forgot all about it as I grew older. Today I heard it for the first time in perhaps 35 years? Guess what? I still think this song is amazing. Give it a listen! For a band as "light" as the Monkees, it is pretty damn profound.

  • My best friend in the whole world grew up singing our hearts out to this and all other Monkee's songs. Truly the best memories with my bestie Rhonda! Love you girl! This song says soooo much even in todays world.

  • I've always loved this song, I still do.
