Whem my folks and I moved to Cali in 1977, they told me about the border patrol at the NV/CA line, to make sure nobody was bringing in anything to endanger the environment. I don't recall if they had such a thing for leaving Cali as we moved to NYC afterwards.
Loved seeing this!! My parents dragged me and my little bros on this trip many times !! My dad loves to drive and this is his favorite way to get to and from Honduras. Now I will be dragging my kids on this trip next year! It is one of the best ways to see Central America. Can't wait.
On the way to or from Cental America, I took the same trip, but when I got to southern mexico, I crossed the tehuantepec istmus, and took the pacific hwy, much faster and beautiful than the high lands, the highlands in Guatemala are known for bandits tha rob ppl in the middle of the road, I went into guatemala through the pacific hwy to escuintla, and than to Guatemala city and to Honduras, it took me a full day, from the mexican border with guatemala to SPS Honduras.
YOu just give me the idea to go to honduras with my kids on road. We have a awd toyota sienna do you think it can be done ? what do you think>? we live in SC. if we all go from here we have to pay about 650 per person thats 3,500 on plain tikets.
@olica95 I did this trip, olica95 in 1997, yes it can be done, but Mexico can be very dangerous, and the police stop you many times to extort money from you, with the kids and everything, I would rather fly, it's a long and tiring trip and the kids would be bored, it took me 5 1/2 days, almoust the same trip mike did, but when I got to souther mexico I cross the tehuantepec istmus, to the pacific hwy, and took the low lands to Guatemala city, much faster and less dangerous.
So cool , are you guys driving back to La Ceiba? Coz ur wife said see you in 6 month La Ceiba :)

That was very cool! Always wanted to travel across countries with the family, maybe we'll get to do that someday.
BTW, are you returning to Honduras?

@spyknight90 Yes He said it at the begining, "See you Ceiba in six month" if you start the video you can hear it.

Thanks for sharing that! I've sometimes wondered what the roads were like along that stretch. Have a great time in the States.
