This guy is nuts, only a "trained eye" could tell the difference side by side with this 50" set. I have had this set for 3yrs, no complaints other than the speakers if turned up. Myself needed surround sound....happy. Very good picture
Its 2011 and I have yet to see anything in a show room that blows this away. Best set I have ever seen for viewing fast action sports. Have never turned the speakers on so wouldn't know. Run the scrolling screen protector couple times a month and your good to go!

For anyone thinking of buying samsung tv / home theatre equipment please= DONT! i bought a 42" samsng tv last year and within 2 weeks it more or less blew up. i returned i under warranty to get it fixed and guess what? it blew up again! and finally after returning it for a second time to get it fixed yes youve guessed it= it blew up FOR THE 3RD TIME! needless to say i got a full refund after a strong worded email to shamsung lol, some friends have had similar probs with samsung hardware= AVOID!
i got the same tv replace twice within 6 months, good thing i got the extra guarantee at the store where i got them, but it looks like samsung its trying to make tvs really cheap and they are going to loose alot a the end the stores didnt even take them back so have 2 samsung tvs that do not work . WHAT A SHAME FOR SAMSUNG
i dont care what he says i have this tv and i have it in a 42 1080p i also have the red glass frame 32 in my kids room 1080p and have a ps3 hooked up to all 3 and guess what i swear i must be blind cuz they are all set to dynamic and the 50in shows the best oh ya and to me plasma shows way better for color and brightness hands down

I have had this t.v. for over a year. Got it at a killer price. The guy doing the review from digital trends is very critical of this t.v. If you watch a great deal of over the air channels or non hd cable or have non hd sources, the t.v. struggles to show a sharp picture. I have and xbox 360 and the games look awsome. I also have an hd dvd ad on the the hd movies look awsome. This t.v. does 720p but will run at 1080p thru an xbox 360. Netflix hd also looks awsome!
1080p and 720p... muthafuckas you can barley see the difference. i bought a samsung 50 inch 1080p to go full HD. and my parents have the samsung 50 inch 720p. and guess what i cant tell the damn difference. its all hype!!!
(IF your looking to go big on the cheap) He says, lol yeah if you have a little dick and need to have a 1080p just so you dont have to lie to your idiot friends about how you went (cheap) and bought a 720p plasma and not a lcd. Even thought the picture is better in every aspect. Just tell them its a 1080p the morons will never know. The only 1080p signal is blu ray. OTA, SAT, Cable.. all of it no more than 1080i and in most cases is 720p. And how in the fuck does a plasma have bad blacks? lol
Big on the cheap is DLP which is STILL better than LCD. LED is STILL not making a better picture than plasma. Dont be a bandwagon insecure faggot sheep. If you want accurate picture quality at all angles. And a movie like image, then plasma is for you. I have both sammy lcd and plasma, plasma is still king. Buy this one in the review for 700$, or better yet buy 2 of them for the price of 1 47in LED LCD, bhahahah. You morons.
Um yeah, as you see, if you stand half a foot from the mother fucker the lack of 1080p is apparent, lol. Anybody thinking about 720p...just buy it you wont regret it one bit. at 50inches, you have to be 5ft of closer to even START to see a difference.
I have the new model 50 and its amazing, i dont know about this model but he really kinda sounds like he doesn't know his shit. I mean what is there better? an LCD, uh no...
Yes these tvs are amazing until just after they go out of their warranty and they turn into burnt toast. Do the google search- SAMSUNG TV CLICKING and you will be amazed at all the negative comments from samsung customers.

Pretty bad review, this shouldn't make you reconsider a 720p 50' TV.
Why do people even talk about the audio from the TV? People who don't have a home theatre system of some kind (even a stereo speaker is better) don't give 2 craps about audio anyway.
720p plasma can look better than 1080p lcd on alot of sets in this price range. plus the sound on this set isnt good, it does have better picture quality than most in its price range sorry but this guy must have spent 5 minuets with the tv then read his review off a dry erase board behind the camera. I gave it 1 star, sorry but you have now clue what your talking about
I know this is an old review but this guy has this bassakwards... The sound is trash. but as far as picture goes this set is amazing. all of my friends that have hd sets even 1080 are amazed when they see this set. this is a super bargain especially now that you can get it around 8-900
i have this tv. but i am now converting to a 42inch lg lcd , basicly i went for the 50" plasma as i was just lookin for a big tv and this was suprisingly cheap. but i found out later on that when playin games ect for no longer than two hours it would ghost. this is why i feel lcd is better. so if your into gaming and dont want to worry about maps ect and get the best out of your console go with lcd. if your just buying a tv for films and tv id go with plasma.
I don't recommend the tv at all even for the price of $699 at sears. the quality is worst than a computer screen. I refunded mines for less than what I paid
i have this tv, and after properly adjusting the settings from avsforum the black levels are amazing. the speakers on the other hand, suck. you get plenty of vibration from them when the volume is loud. this guy couldn't have gotten it more mixed up.
It's a great tv for the price with an outstanding picture. It's not the best compared to the pricier models but a massive step up from an SDTV. There is some bad ghosting of images but it is very temporary.
Also beware of burn in! I listened to the Best Buy clown that told me that burn in doesn't happen anymore with plasmas and have gotten some permanent burn in from letterboxed movies and videogames. Make sure you adjust your picture settings to lessen this. I found out too late.
Just bought one last month for 900 out the door. love it ,720 hd looks great. I could see the diff between 1080, but it saved me 600 bucks, I dont watch blue rays or play video games, so why spend the money? just hope it lasts the 11 years. Samsung says 11 years panel life. LOL
This Samsung plasma is a great buy, if you can still find one...under a grand. Only cons is the sound/speakers(weak?)...which most people will use a surround system anyway. For those if you who need all the bells and gadgets, need to spend at least 5grand on a TV, and fell the need to know you have got 1080p which most could not pick out of a line up at over 5ft away....dont buy this model. Sorry I think its a great buy and like it give it 8/10
I bought one for christmas. Picture looks absolutely as good as any I've seen. Have had no problems and could not possibly be happier about my purchase. I got the tv and a sony suround sound system for just over a 1000 bucks.
Hey I agree , it does give one hell of a picture. You can not see the difference compared to the higher end model. And yes I read the manual over and over again. Page 3 tells you all about how burn ins are not covered. My TV is set 16:9, my HD box is set 16:9 1080I,4:3 over ride is off. I bought this TV , to watch TV, and that is it!!!!!!!!!! And Im sorry did I say I bought another plasma, LG LCD. ITS a good buy for a reason, THEY ARE JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe its just me, watching standard HD on the Samsung compared next to a 1080p set sorry couldnt tell one from the other, guess it takes a trained eye.........? I also have read many reviews giving the Samsung better PQ ratings even over Panny entry level plasmas? Im still shopping but this is my likely pick, being the picture looks great even compared to some of the high dollar sets asking 4x the price.
Take it for whats it's worth! My advise is free. I payed $1,300 for mine, and to repair it was $1,600 for the panel, and $ 450 for labour. D o the math on that. Unless you have to throw away, which you probably do not because if you did you would not be looking at this TV. But hey its your money. My TV was white washed and scrolled so much it burned the TV out......!! And guess what not cover under warranty..... Now I bought a real TV LG scarlet.......... two thumbs up !!!!!!
To start with Samsung makes it very clear, only someone who cant read would miss that burn in is not covered under the waranty. Sorry not buying your motion blur set LCD. This plasma TV is very good buy, can find it for under 900 bucks, also has very good ratings by cnet, and my own eyes find the picture very good, even compared side by side to much higher priced plasmas......there is much reading on the net comparing plasma vs lcd - lcd screens have motion blur period, some worse than others.
Got mine for $867 from Amazon, free ship and handling. I too, cannot wait to get it. TV for the family room, this is the ONLY BAD review out there. MOST reviews are very positive, very few complain about burn in or sound. I own two Samsungs already and I am sure this will be just fine. Also, NO ONE broadcasts in 1080p, no one...720 for a Plasma is just fine.
actually it was the pn50a510 which is missing the side inputs...saves me 400 dollars i dont care. best buy was selling it for 1199.99 minus 100 bucks off for install promo. so really it was 1100.00 plus tax...the day before the superbowl it was 1299.99...funny how that works
Just picked this up, 400 version vs the 450 for 898. I tossed in blue planet and was amazed. I am not a home theater junky but this TV is great and HUGE!!! Maybe in a few years when Bluray and TV is brodcast in a fromat where 1080P can be taken advantage of I will get one.
just got 42 plasma 450, speakers are wack compared to my panny. Overall i like everything about my panny. Im considering returning my sammy, im getting alot of red faces. Adjustments help out red faces, strange white ghosting and couple times static image accros the screen while playing 480i discs (new sony blue ray). Verdic is not in on my set but i do know the panny rocks.
this tv is only good if you watch sports, and movies ONLY!!!!!!!!!!! I purchased my tv 3 months ago and I watch regular programs w/ my familiy. In HD 16:9 and I have gost lines on my tv already. Don't expect SAMSUNG to help you in any way if you any thing burned in your tv... MY personal option is to buy LCD anything but SAMSUNG....
I challenge you to compare any lcd even a 120hz set next to an entry level plasma.... the plasma is the better picture always, not to mention lcd's blur effect, and glowing skin tone.
on the 1080i vs. 720p vs. 1080p, no one seems to point out that none of the major networks broadcast in 1080p. So unless you are talking blu ray or some gaming systems 1080p is wasted.
your exaclty right, standard HD is 720p and for the most part only a trained eye can pickout the 1080 at a distance over 5' with screens under 50" anyway. Seems to me an untrained eye would be able to see the motion blur, and inferior PQ in the LCD sets compared to any plasma?
This guy is nuts, only a "trained eye" could tell the difference side by side with this 50" set. I have had this set for 3yrs, no complaints other than the speakers if turned up. Myself needed surround sound....happy. Very good picture

I paid 1000$ in NY in circuit city right before christmas this is 50 inch 720p
added 3250HD from TWC with the DVI-HDMI adapter so I can watch true 720p or 1080i cable TV :)
LOVE THE TV
Xbox360 looks flawless
(HDMI for 720p here 'also carries audio for better sound'), play with the settings a little and you will see what I mean

MY personal option is to buy LCD anything but SAMSUNG....
myrev11 3 years ago
That's wat i got a LCD better for games normal TV and all that. Doesn't cause a burn-in.

So unless you are talking blu ray or some gaming systems 1080p is wasted.
eerfan58 3 years ago
your exaclty right, standard HD is 720p and for the most part only a trained eye can pickout the 1080 at a distance over 5' with screens under 50" anyway. Seems to me an untrained eye would be able to see the motion blur, and inferior PQ in the LCD sets compared to any plasma?
