The first stage's name seems more like "Darkness is in the Future." The spin jump might be disabled so you don't get a seizure, which I suppose means they just forgot about the cape.

Parakuri is short for Parachute-Kuribo, or Paragoomba. So yeah, it is referring to the old men.

The light is set up so that it only turns on when you are facing to the left (IE: Looking back, away from the 'future') so that Boon/Mario can't "know what the future holds", as it were.
