  • sad, but beautiful....

  • he is amazing...I can only dream of ever making something a fraction as good!

  • amazing. Saw the exhibit a couple of years back in sydney (mca) legit about 50 times. I was there almost everyday of it his works were just that good.

  • this is just so awesome. i learned of him in my drawing class and he has easily become my favorite artist. the style is so different. amazing.

  • it is a really fantastic work that can be seen in Cologne Germany

  • this is incredible. i'm studying his work in my gcse art project, he is so inspirational!

  • Kentridge is just an awesome artist! His drawings are so touching...♥

  • I saw this in a museum in Cologne over two years ago. Thank God I wrote the name down in my journal, or it may have been lost to me forever! Thanks for posting.

  • Heart wrenchingly beautiful... Everyone should watch this full screen, this is a masterpeice.

  • i wish there was a DVD of his 'drawings for projection'!

    they're very moving.

  • Thanks for recording this! I havent been able to go to his exhibitions so cheers!

  • kentridge is a gifted artist and a critic of cultures and so much more... I had a really tough art prof that turned me onto kentridge...

he is the best. it takes him 6-9 months of drawing to get a few minutes of streaming animation... and when he saturates the paper with marks from erasing and drawing... he traces the drawing and keeps the overworked original to sell later as an original drawing... he is a mad genius obsessed with theatre, music(opera), socio-political as all hell...

  • did you record this in the tate modern?

  • Im a great fan of his work but I haven't seen any since I was in an animationfestival years ago apparently he has a show on in Brighton (UK) someone told me, he is a great artist. It does help to read about his films in order to understand them, the stills from the film work well on their own as paintings.

  • theres two rooms in the tate modern full of his sketches and then another room with 4 of his videos i didnt get the names.

But this one definately featured there.

    check it out

    x

  • Can someone please explain this film to me? I really don't get it.

  • the film is based on south african history, it shows that the country's landscape formed as a result of the death and destruction caused by the oppressive apartheid regime. Its a postmodern film, whereby Kentridge's technique of erasing and adding more drawings create something new.Notice how the bodies disappear into the landscap.the papers which cover the body can be interpreted as an historical record of south africas past.

  • thanks a lot for the information! helps a lot to understand the work.

  • Great stuff. Ingenious. Does anyone have more information on Kentridges work with handspan theatre??? Please call. And who wrote the music for this animation???

  • that was great! i love it! kinda pschedelic but in the end you get what it's all about. nice one.

  • I love the guy who walks across the screen in this one.
