  • I'm glad I don't do this anymore good ridings fort puke

  • Pshh..

  • biggest i have fired is a charge 7 on a L119

  • sweet. it's like a snack bar in a trench! you see 1 guy drink some water while a few others are eating something. pretty cool though

  • '

    how much weight one bullet

  • @bestamerica 8kg give or take

depends on the type of projectile they use, oh and dont call them bullets, bullets go in a rifle

  • I'm remember duct tapping a lizard around the fuze end of the round at twenty nine stumps and send him down range!

  • 0:55 <---------if you want to see firing

  • Any one ever fired a 7 red bag?

  • @goofiegoofball I've fired a charge 8 redbag behind a RAP at 29 Palms back in 1994.

  • @jimjanssen73 Madness.

  • lacks orginization.

  • much more complicated to fire a round iut f this then my 120mm mortar.

  • 1st, there is NO SUCH THING as a "Blank Round" made in 155mm Howitzer.

2nd the issue of the "pop"(sound after firing),is caused by the powder charge, the projectile breaking the sound-barrier and, to a degree, the type of projectile being fired, the square weight of the round and the barometric pressure and ambient temp. as opposed to a "BOOM" for the report of the gun.

3rd-The speed of the firing, comes from the fire commands from the fire directio center.thegunarefiringregistationrdsso, slower

  • You can see clearly the changes done to this cannon, smooth and quick like you need it, not jumpy and bouncy like the ones in the past...

  • Wow, takes like a whole hour just to fire one round, do they really take this long for artillery support when guys are getting killed on the ground?

  • @stevetheazian95 Probably not. At least not now or ever again. There are other plenty of other things to use that would work way better. Because there are not a lot of situations that involve people are getting killed on the ground that would require use of a thing like that. The only thing slow enough for it to hit is probably be a tank or people who can't see it being aimed at them.

  • @stevetheazian95 Watch it again: 35 seconds between rounds seems pretty quick to me. Also think about the term "artillery batteries".

  • Chuck Norris duel wields these in Call of Duty 9.

  • sounds like an oversized cap gun lol

  • Sounds like something you would hear on a submarine (from all of my movie expericence lol), fucking awesome video!

  • thats a whole lot of numbers

  • you can see the shell in flight briefly.

  • im in feild artillery and even our new m-777 are louder than this x50 never have i shot blank rounds either also in ft. sil, 1/103rd bravo company

  • BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!

  • those arent live, this a drill those are so loud that the camera would not be able to pick up the sound.

    those are practice rounds

  • im guessing this is the german army?

  • @littledutchboy1996 read the descrp its japan

  • or these could be blanks?? test round maybe?

  • damn i should of signed up for this MOS. i picked equipment operator......

  • hey my last names strickland too.

  • iron mike 3/11 1981 82 aww those were the days semper fi

  • LOL pffffft with a puff of smoke:) Probably because the sound is traveling forwards.

  • is this thing very loud ?

  • Still waiting for the BOOM.

  • shame these guys arent as snappy as the royal artilary :(

  • This is why fire support always shows up late.

  • Should go BANG, not POP.

  • Unless your recording video and sound with a cheap Sony Cybershot camera.

  • Lol were you rapping?

  • @Timsierramist nice the wind took away the smoke...

  • @Timsierramist HEY NOW! My old "Cheap Sony Cybershot Camera" was a hell of a lot better than the janky-ass Kodak that I've got now...

  • @BenHutchinson1

    Or they are shooting paper?

  • @BenHutchinson1 you have to consider, these fellas are only firing a charge 3 green bag- Thats pretty much the weakest charge in the Field Artillery.

  • I took this weapon apart today for 91F school, damn taking the barrel and recoil mech out isnt much fun

  • did they just fire some empty shells?

  • ok wheres the explosion?

  • :30, the on in the lower corner, he spitted!

  • i was expecting more of a KA BOOM

  • My crappy 2005 Cybershot Camera doesn't do this video Justice by any means, particularly in the sound department.

  • 3-3-5-7... lol its sounds like a rap the first 20 seconds with that beep

  • In the four years that I served in the Marine Corps in Artillery, I never shot "blank" rounds. Not even in training in Ft Sill OK. Yes we used charge green bags but no blank rounds. As a matter of fact I served with the section chief of this video when he got to the fleet as a young Marine.

  • Kinda cool you served with Sergeant Strickland. He's a SWAT officer with a Sheriff's Department now, San Joaquin/jose or something like that.

  • is this MOS fun? Do they get to deploy alot? how long is the MOS school? How close to the action are they? Thanks.

  • HOWITZERS ARE SAFE.

  • Is it the British, aussies, or canadians who called artillery gun bunnies? Also, where did that name come from. I forgot..,

  • It's Aussie slang originally, now all of armies use it.

  • excellent job gun bunnies

  • Also, to the guy in a long previous comment who mentioned we were "moving slow"...i'd like to see you shoot 4 rounds per minute + for 2 weeks straight off of 4-6 hours of sleep. We have nothing to prove here, we're just doing our job. We already know we could shoot above the maximum rounds per minute.

  • And to add....not forgetting manual loading and not using an automatic loader + safety checks :)

  • How does someone remember all of those numbers? Seriously.

  • Well, the FDC (Fire Direction Control) gives calculates the information given to them from the Forward Observers (who are hidden and see the target) and they give us the numbers. There are 2 different mounts on the Howitzer. Deflection is Left/Right and located on the left side of the gun. Quadrant is up and down and located on the right side of the gun. All you do is put the numbers in on the mount, adjust the howitzer by hand so that "bubbles" level, and fire away at the target.

  • thats why they rule. LOL

  • You really want as many as you can get. 8 crew and 1 section chief is desired but i've seen it as low as 2 crew and 1 section chief in Iraq.

  • How many men work for each gun? A dozen?

  • These must have ben either light loaded round or just blanks most likely light loaded rounds so you cant fire them to far off target during training. Thats just what I think I have no experience with howitzers.

  • Good obversvation. They were small HE and green bags which mean they weren't going very far, lol.

  • 1st rule of field artillery howitzers. THERE ARE NO BLANK ROUNDS!

  • Yeah it did come across my mind. What the hell would blanks of that size look like and they probably don't exist but they do have other ways to create a bang without firing a projectile.

  • thats fine. Im not 100% sure they have anytype of practice cannon or howitzer in FA. I know infantrymen use SIMs with gas powered rifles to create artifical recoil. I used one back at Camp Roberts in CA NG base. Maybe if i commission into FA i will let ya know.

  • Any FA guy will tell you that there are blank rounds. There are 4 types of rounds. Service (live), Blank, Practice and training (correct me if i'm wrong there. I'm not in the Corps anymore). But back to the point, I have never fired or seen a blank round, but supposedly they exist for ceremonies and events. If i'm not mistaken, I was pretty sure that the rounds they fire off at Fort Sill, OK (Artillery School) every night when they retire the flag. Any Fort Sill, OK guys who know?

  • definitely blank rounds...i took my young children up to see the flag retired one evening, and we stood just across the street from it! (my 1.5 year old daughter said "boom!" ... i was so proud!)

  • @whalen0056 you can see the round fired a split second after the "pop", not blanks =]

  • @whalen0056 you can see the round fired a split second after the pop sound, not blanks but bad sound quality =]

  • Awesome. My husband is deployed right now to Okinawa. They're going to Fuji for about a month here soon. He's in Motor-T but when he went to PTA he helped some of the guys with the howitzers. When they're shooting rounds really close together they move really fast! It's really impressive.

  • Looks a little crowded, do they really have to be that many at a time?

  • Yeah everybody has a specific job. There is so much going on in that short amount of time that it can't all be accomplished without everyone doing something as part of a team. Recorder (me), section chief to verify everything, 2 loaders, rammer, Gunner, A-Gunner, People not on screen preparing ammo. When we're in a hurry, it has to be 4 rounds per minute, but i've seen it faster. It can also be done with different people doing multiple jobs if necessary...

  • What´s that? Look at Panzerhaubitze 2000. This is artillery.

  • 90 sec.'s to send 2 rounds down range??? Are you kidding me?? Ladies...you should be ashamed of yourselves. I spent 3 yrs in artillery and my gun was NEVER that slow. Accuracy is very important but so is speed. Maybe you girls should stop playing with the big boys and go to infantry.

  • Even think that they werent going for speed? one guy is drunking and one guy is eating.

  • is that all the sound that the howtizer makes when firing live rounds?

  • The Sony Cybershot that took this videos does absolutely no justice to the sound...

  • yeah i live 5 miles from Fort Bragg, NC and when them 105's go off it shakes the whole house. you can hear em whistle n hit too. my buddies like 2 miles away and hes had a glass wiggle of the table.

  • Actually, that is exactly how it sounds. It's actually kinda wimpy (for it's size and power) using lower charges. Mostly lower charges are used in training. But when you get the big charges, the Red 7's and 8's, and 8 stick, the ground shakes. The first time I shot a 8 stick, I was dazed for a few minutes.

  • This video was shot in late late 2006. This is Mike Battery 3rd Battalion 11th Marines. We did not deploy to Iraq until early 2008. Being a soldier (or Marine in this case) is not for everyone. I know for absolute fact it wasn't for me. And it wasn't the risking the life deal, it was the micro management I couldn't put up with. It was the immature people NCO's who let the power trip get to their head. It was the a lot of things. All I can say is that I repayed me debt to the USA and left

  • marines are part of infantry corps? arent they us special forces? correct me if im wrong im from aus so not sure

  • You are wrong, on both counts. The Marine Corps is a service of it's own, separate from the Army, Navy or Air Force, but on equal footing as them (more or less). Because the Marine Corps is so small (and is kept small) anything that is not directly related to combat (Corpsmen, Admin, Dental) is done for us by the Navy. The Marine Corps is not Special Forces, but it does have it's own Special Forces, Marine Recon.

  • The Marines are still part of the US Navy

  • the marine corps is a subdivide of the Navy.

  • USMC is a department of the navy.

  • two nine five one quarter. alpaha omega thunder cats thunder cats hooooooooo

  • u can see the profectile at 1.25

  • feedback

  • Wake me up when they're about to fire.

  • You're right, thus formally English Spoken in north american pronunciation is referred to as American English.

  • at first glanc eI though it said Fingering the M198 Howitzer

  • I just liked listening to the fire commands! My guard unit went to the digital stuff and we did away with all the repetition...just a press of the ACK button. Sad.

    Simplify guys! Simplify!

(like I know a marine who actually speaks latin!)

  • SLOW!

  • 3rd 8" Howitzer Bn. 11th Marines, RVN 68-69, An Hoa, Hill 55, Semper Fi Bros

  • very little recoil!

  • Looks like a charge 5 white bag. So its a pretty low charge thats why the recoil seemed so low plus the elevation of the tube looked like it was at about 300 to 350 mils.

  • deflection is left/right. Quadrant is up/down. In the Mils format.

  • Last time I was at Fuji I was fireing a 106mm recoiless rifle. Good times.

    Semper Fidelis!

  • Can't we all just get along and fire howitzers at each other?

  • That'd be nice I guess....it was just training. Practice. Learning.

  • Ok you Anti-Americans out there. I can't honestly say I respect your side of the debate. You point and accuse without any proof. Meanwhile, I am serving in the military and see the proof and facts day in and day out. But if it makes you happy, and will get you to shut up with your nonsense, the Marine Corp is supposed to be closing down Camp Fuji in the future and returning it to the Japanese. There is no set date yet as I understand, but it's in the works.

  • God bless america and I love my brothers in the U.S., but any war is wrong. No one can account for every soldier on any side and wrong doings will be done admitted or not, and they have been done! One day the lies can no longer been covered up.

  • its not about killing. its about spending money in stupid things like war. THANKS GOD bush is out.

  • Why does everyone always make it seem like the united states is the only country with a military? There are worse countries out there, look at half the things that go on in other countries and maybe you'll realize that american's arn't so bad. Half of you morons dont even understand what your talking about. If you are so against killing people then how did you come across finding this video in the first place. go search barney or something if you cant handle the fact that a howitzer is a weapon.

  • LOL! Good comment :-)

  • Exactly... Perfect, these people who hate Americans so much, obviously cruise the internet finding videos about americans, I filtered US Marines in Iraq and eventually surfed and came upon this, so seriously, grow up guys.

  • WTF is wrong with you poeple?! Its a fuckin training exercise! Also we are allies with the Japanese you fuckin pricks!

  • I don't see them murdering anyone, can you point them out on this vid??

  • just some hippie piece of shit...

  • So you are proud for muerdering people?

Imagine your self living somewhere else and not in America...Isn't it unfair a country to come all the way from their place to bomb you and enslave you?

  • Because I strongly believe in Freedom of Speech MITSOTRIBAL, I will not remove your outrageous (in my opinion) response. But with all do respect sir, you don't know what your talking about.

The recorder and guy repeating the Artillery commands is me. We were shooting Artillery on a Marine Corp Installation near Mount Fuji. We were shooting into a safe impact area far from any person and even then, into a small "box" in that much larger impact area that is completely off limits. Wise up Bro.

  • I know....That this is propably some practice shooting....But Yes US soldiers are considered as muerderers and Americans are the true terrorists....

Things are simple....They went to Iraq and start muerdering people....As they did in Serbia,Afganistan.....and the list is too big to end here....Isn't it so leutenat?

  • So mate, you're a Russian supporter, thats fine, Russia has an interesting culture and history. Cool. But since you accuse the US of "murder", have you consiidered the USSRs invation of Afghanistan were it wiped out villages full of civilians, with Chemical weapons? Have you considered Russia's invation of Czecheslovakia in 1968 and their blockade of Germany in the late 1940s. Russia is presently selling small arms to Sudan which are being used to murder the people of Darfur, since 2001.

  • that should be "invasion".

  • You're the same....USA just has more and bigger crimes....Vietnam,Iraq,Serbia....Serbia had an idepedent goverment and just becauz of that the murderers came all the way here to kill some Serbs....US is also rensponsible for Cyprus....USA is against justice, right and liberty....USA a true terrorist

  • You also know that in Iraq it is the Sunni and Shi'a militia sects that are killing far more Iraqi civilians than US accidental killings. The sects deliberately target markets and Iraqi government instillations such as the civil police. I am well acquainted with Iraqi refugees that have been forced from their homes at gun point by these people. Are you?

  • USA is rensposible for Iraq....US army went to that country and then they let the militia do the killing....So what, just because US soldiers don't squish the trigger and they let the militia do?...And US citizens are coguilty cuz they do nothing about it...What does "acquainted" mean?

  • "acquainted" means, has met, and knows a person or people. "well acquainted" means to know someone well.

The US has been trying to stop the militia from killing since the beginning. Many of the militia are not Iraqis but people from surrounding countries that have illegally entered Iraq to kill US troops. Abu Al Zaqawi was Jordanian. Why can't they stay out of Iraq and let the Iraqi and American governments sort the problems out?

  • Cuz that's the US goverment wants to....Not to leave Iraq stand again...You are talking about the presense...In the begining of the invasion USA bombed Iraq and used phosphorus after some time and in the 90's US used Uranium bombs....US has the title of muerderer here in Europe for good and it's right

  • notice how you accuse the u.s. of terrorizing, yet you use the american language(not so proficiently i might add) but you typed your lame ass comment in english, take your hatin ass back to school and look up the word"contradict" idiot. and don't come to the u.s. and expect a warm welcome brainwashed self-loathing communist prick.

  • american language lol

its called english you dumbfuck from the united kingdom ...

  • Where the hell did you get that we "enslave" them? It makes me sick that they let people like you go around on youtube, talking trash about americans when we are the one's who invented just about everything you have.

  • You?....Sorry but if it wasn't for my country European civilisation wouldn't have advanced like this today and so would you Americans....If you existed....

My country is Hellas, home of the Spartans and Alexander the Great....

A kind people that your goverment tries to destroy,as any other fair people in earth

  • So.. Cause one american invented something.. That makes you awesome?

Face it. America wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for Europe. The same goes the other way around, whether you like it or not. No continent would be where it is NOW if it wasn't for the other continents of the world. Don't act like you Americans are the saviors of mankind, cause that's just stupid.

  • Now regarding Afghanistan, are you aware that according to public surveys more than 80% of the Afghan people still support the US removal of the Taliban regime? The Taliban practice Hanbali Islam based on the Salafi tradition formed under Ibn Tammiyya, where not even the playing of musical instruments is allowed, and yes, under Shari'a, execution by public stoning (where they bury a person up to the neck and the throw rocks the size of base balls at their head until they die) was common.

  • your an idiot

  • Okay Mitsotribal. I'm guessing you live in San Fransico or Swedan.

  • No...I am European...See my comment is spamed...I shall post it again...

  • So, this rate of fire is only 4 round per minute? Thats quite slow...

  • DAMN I MISS MY 198 we just switched over to MLRS

  • gotta love arty i was with lima 3/10 and did a feild op at camp fuji during december and january it was a nightmare cold as shit snowing and raining the whole time fun as hell in tokyo though semper fi bro

  • There is a base in japan, several. Current I'm stationed at Camp Fuji. And I can't divulge much information since you need a security clearance for it. But the howitzer and FDC don't use computers for final input, but as a guide and helper. What happens if you run outta power? you're battery is SOL and useless....wheels and protracters are the way to go.

  • they are too slow in recharge..

one question..the howitzer of this generation use a computer to set the coordinates??

  • before they were shooting i believe he was giving out the coordinates

  • i was thinking the same thing, this is ridiculous

  • Well ok, but where can i get one? Can i in time for christmas? Im addin this shit to my wishlist now.

  • me too man!!

  • yeah calling green bag when white bag was being fired? fuck dat have that FTO low crawling up and down the gunline....

  • My dad was in Field Artillery for 23 years!

Retired 1st Cav 2nd Batallion 82nd Field Artillery!

I think I'm going FA in the Marine Corps

  • I'm a bit curious why all comments on videos regarding American weapons are intense Militarial debates.

  • Alright you stupid fuks... why is the recorder verifying Green bag, If you are shooting white bag... good way to shoot out you fuck

  • hey dumbass, that was green bag. You cant shoot white bag or anything else for that matter at mount fuji. Obviously you werent in arty. You cant be color blind.

  • What are the marines doing in japan?

  • do u realize US forces are in most ally countries, training bases, and areas to station our forces in case enemies (N. Korea) or others, require a swift kick in the ass. The US is not a dumb country, we have bases all over the world.

  • a country that forget where they should place their flag in the world. yeah, america is stupid...

  • I believe there is a US base in Japan.

  • My mom lived on a base in Japan lol. so there was at one time at least..

  • There r quite a few bases across Japan. I think about 5 or 6.

  • Are they saying HEPD? I've heard of HEDP before, but not PD.

  • hedp stands for high explosive dual purpose

  • hmm that makes sense. We say HEPD though...I believe that we say the HE to verify the round and PD to verify the fuse. I am not a chief or anything though just a cannoneer

  • oh i was thinking wrong thing where you stationed at im at 3rd maint bn

  • High Explosive Point Detonating

  • Ah. That makes sense. Thanks.

  • was that a duck~~~i cant hear shit~~~

  • that sux, theres no BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

  • idiot

  • they are probaly using a 3 to 5 charge and the gun is not elevated that much so its probaly shooting less than 3mi

  • Almost every artillery video has the USMC!!!! oorah!!!! Long live the marine corps.

  • same hear its just junk

  • your drills are crap i use the heap of junk it was junk when it came out and its still junk for god sake fire white bag or red super

  • Only thing I hear is 3326 42126326136136 634614616414

  • It looks like Ft. Sill training you asses.....that's why it's so slow

  • YYaawwnn......why wasn't the round verified and in the tube after the quadrant was sent and why was the chief in the way between the trails. I know, had to verify the AG's sight because he didn't do FCATS and couldn't trust the quadrant on the gunner's side.

  • ohhrah, arty

  • I always wanted to be an artillary loader but all our howitzers been captured and taken away by the US ARMY.

  • man ur #1 man is slow. Why don't you guys have a GDU.

  • Yeah, uhh...the GDU was busted, and didn't work, like they usually do, lol
