not bad...id say biggest factor was power to weight ratio there...and or gearing. throw 4:10s and a blower, turbo or 75 shot on that v6 and it would do the same thing. my 06 v6 is auto, im running an x charger blower and turning 13.1's consistently...ran a 12.89 once..fluke or not it showed up and i got the slip to prove it...but iv also got a lot of other go fast or stick to the track goodies that help a lot.still a v6 can be trained to run with the best, no matter who hates on em
thats what I was keep trying to tell people...they don't get it...an auto v6 can beat manual v8...you gotta be a f1 driver to beat an auto if you drive a stick...
@websoull You're comparing a 40 year old car with unknown history to a V6 mustang with unknown modifications. Do you just go around bumping the V6? It's a mediocre engine. Sure, you could throw money at it and make it fast (just like anything). Your F1 driver comment leads me to believe that you don't have much real driving experience. That transmission is also used in Explorers and Tauruses - it's not even considered a fast shifting transmission within the automatic transmission world.
@srcej6 I've got a v6 auto, and there is no 5th gear. I have 3 gears and then an over drive on my 2002. I was thinking about swapping it for a stick to get extra gears and be able to shift faster and at the correct rpms.
@TheACID98 beware: i have a 2002 mustang 3.8 (BUILT 290rwhp) and the 5 speed transmissions tend to have problems with quick shifting... this is the 2 one i have had problems with
@websoull er not the taurus, that's fwd. what was that other model I was thinking of...oh well. You get my point. Comparing a same year GT to V6: same chassis and close to the same weight...except the V6 has less power, less torque, poorer throttle response, smaller tires, longer gear ratios - and one less gear, and an open differential. Stock for stock, in controlled conditions, the V6 can't win. And once you start modifying either of them or comparing street races, the argument is useless.
I have enough experience...I used stick all my life...and I still do, because I love it...
but a stick cannot beat an auto in a race like that...If you have a good enough automatic transmission, it will always beat manual, time you loose from shifting makes the auto faster...and depending on how fast or slow you are, v6 can close the gap no matter how small its tires, or have less power...I have seen enough examples...
just like my good friend Joe says about his vett, manual is fun to drive, but nothing shifts faster then a tuned computer. and thats the truth

@drewdude320i Just want to point out that the 5R55E in the Explorer does differ from the 5R55S in the Mustang.
The Mustangs version of the 5spd auto actually is known for quick, firm shifts. At least that's what car and driver, hot rod, and motor trend said.

@TheACID98 I'm talking about the '05 and newer Mustang V6s though, I'm aware older ones are 4spds.
