I like ur video n homesteading.myself doing the same as well in Mya.also planting some garlic and others stuff for own consumption.Thks for sharing the tips.
Did you plant the garlic in the trough or on top of the rows? I could not tell from the video. BTW, love the gardening videos. Very helpful and I appreciate you.
Plant garlic in the fall, harvest bulbs in the early summer when the tops start to bend over and dry out. I plant garlic in beds rather than rows about 4 inches each way.
Thank you for this information on row making. we have been using an old broken plow that is a real back breaker and I dread it every year. Thank you so much man I am gone make me one of these!
We always plant our garlic in the fall, it grows through the winter and we harvest it mid to late summer as soon as the tops die off. usually when we're harvesting potatoes the garlic is right around the same time.
If you dried those now would they come back if you planted them? like onion sets? If you mailed them to someone could they plant them and have them grow? looks like you won't be having any vampire trouble. I hear it keeps the mosquitos away too.
We always plant garlic but it never does that well - and not sure why as we plant it before the winter as the books suggest. Looks like you have been pretty successful with your seedlings - I think the actual garlic you use has to be good growing stock.
Garlic is one of my most important crops as I am a garlic fiend.;-) I have two acres that I have divided into fourths. I plant 1/2 acre into garlic at a time and do green manure in the other 1 1/2 acres to replenish the soil. So for three years I build up the garlic soil and one year I plant it. I plant mine in the fall though. I also grow it in containers near the kitchen so I can easily add scapes to my soups and salads. Like I said, I am a garlic fiend.;-)
i dont think you could get a kid in a garden in my town, cant get them away from there phones.mp3,ipods and video games. its great to see kids helping out mom and dad!!!
@ma01ihm We wont be planting most of our garden until May. Garlic and onions aren't hurt by frosts. The garlic over wintered and was growing up on its own so it should be just fine. :-)
wow i really need to get started lol this will be our first year planting anything and still need to till the grass area under where the garden is gonna go
How long can you store garlic? I had some in the fridge last year that started to grow after a few months. I planted it and got about twice as much. Tasted great too. I'd like to grow lots more this year.
@SleestaksRule I store it in the cellar with my onions. Garlic likes a cool dry place. It should last the winter. Might be that your fridge is a bit humid and making it sprout.
So I am curious...if it snows now, are your garlic bulbs still going to thrive?
Also garlic honey is super great for your health. Just take a head of garlic, toss it in a jar, dump honey to cover, and just let it sit for sometime.
Growing garlic for the first time here. Also first time for red onions, white onions and shallots. Why not before, I'm not sure since these are all things we all love and use often. lol Always wonderful to find such things. :)
did you ever try the maple sugar in your coffee ? I baked some syrup down in the oven and it turned out great for sweetener, amazing on oatmeal too. Your vid gave me the idea.
@mbyr31 HomesteadAcres videos are full of good planting advices , and his cooking vids are good : i tried homemade pizza : awesome .
I agree about outdoors come back ,winter was also long in my country , i can't wait to restart my mower for the first time after winter ! why not a video of it ?

Why do you plant them in the spring? I've always planted just the cloves in September. i.e in about two weeks. (USA, Tennessee Zone 7.)

A tad early ain't it? You could STILL get a frost, right?
nutmegger1957 1 year ago
@nutmegger1957 Yes we will likely still get frosts. Garlic is not hurt by frosts. These plants were already growing up through the snow. :-)

Nice sound effects when you are making your rows!....tractor driving around in the background.
The way I do garlic is you plant it in the fall and then harvest the next summer/fall.

Good God that is a lot of garlic! lol. It's exciting to see you getting started in the garden. I see the row maker did a great job.

@mrgoodvibrations Yes, we got a little rain to night. But it's so dry, we really need more. Springs never used to be this dry....
