IT IS the video that's messed up! I have this phenomenal performance recorded on DVR from classic art's showcase and I was hoping I could place it into my favorites here, but when I heard the poor quality of sound I changed my mind. I'll try and upload it.
Again such a surprising video. I knew part of the tune (intrigued by it), but could never find recording nor name of the piece. Where did you get this material?
excellent performance, but I want to see the fretboard and his technique. trying to play it myself, but even with the tablature I have trouble figuring out how to get the song to flow on some of the parts. fingers keep getting in the way ;-)
Dear. chinese korean japanese has similar instruments i think. don't know the name. they wowling frequently. JW is imitating perfectly. it sounds pulling up or down and not coming back to normal tune at each touch. blues jazz guitar get back to tune after vibration or pulling. so u may need simly get out of tune between each 12 octave
I really don't you know what you meant, but the tuning problem here is not what john williams did on purpose...its the video (old vhs problem). Oriental instrument does not play in an out of tune style the way you describe. Someone needs to update this video!
Very nice as usual for John Williams. But I think the cameraman could have shown more of the guitarist's hands ( and possibly close up!) rather than the scenery and flower!!

Sound is terrible. I ´d like see this video in Hight Quality. However, I prefer Ernesto Bitetti´s version

The speed change of the video changes the notes, but I think it actually sounds interesting, even good like that.

I was referring to felo69v's post about tuning. Sorry, it wouldn't let me "Reply" for some reason.

It sometimes sounds out of tune... Is it because of the video-quality?
Wuchinger 5 years ago
Probably no - he may well have playing in a non-European tuning ......
actually you may be right - I have listened more and it seems to slowing and speeding
