  • Great series, I learned a lot on GPS navigation, I started in fs 3 and "grew up" flying the good old way, VOR/HSI, OBS and such, so I see it the "other way around" of many newbies being introduced to aviation nowadays with a direct introduction to "easy" navigation with glass panels and such. You've done a very good job, I love your clear explanations.

  • Great series. Thanks for taking the time to explain from the old school point of view, first.

  • great channel

  • Good one.

  • I think the flight one citation mustang is good detail for g1000

  • So did you actually do the planning in the G1000 or is the flightplan imported from FSX?

  • @gloxt

I know that the default planes import the flight plane from your flight planner automatically, so does this Kodiak plane. As far as anything else out there, I wouldn't know.

  • @FSX404

I own the lionheart Kodiak myself, and love it, but I tend to load the flight plan from FSX too, then fly GPS, upon approach switch to NAV mode and fly ILS.

But the G1000 does have a flight plan page, so far I only activated GPS approaches, but I was wondering if I could plan the entire flight without the FSX flight planner, you know inserting every waypoint by hand.....

  • @gloxt

I'm not sure, I can't remember, I know that it's a two step process creating a flight plan in a G1000, I've done it in real life many times, but I don't think I ever tried it in MSFS, it's too much of a hassle. Go to FLP and try to create a new flight plan, just try to add a few points see what it says.

  • I love that it shows the wind. It would be even cooler if it calculated your wind correction angle and gave you a new heading to follow. That shouldn't be too hard for a computer to do.

  • Very nifty cockpit indeed! Does kinda show how much more functional the new glass cockpits are!

  • @jonthedoors

MSFS barely scratches the surface of the G1000's, these suckers have everything from traffic, terrain following, airport information,XM radio etc etc etc...

Like I say in the video, I wish that MSFS would have spent a few extra bytes on making the G1000 more like the actual one.

  • @Claguey5

Oh geez, I have an old Athlon 2.1 with 3GB memory, and a ATI 1GB video card. That is one reason I don't use FSX much.

As far as laptop specs that are good for a FSX, I could only lie to you. I can fly, but if anything on my computer needs to be done, I pay the neighbors kid to come and update or fix it.

Some of the guys in my friends or subscribers know the computer stuff a lot better, guys like Anush, guitargamery, etc, you'd be better of asking one of them for computer advice

  • Love the tutorial - makes it look navigating is a doddle but I know the opposite is true. Nothing beats the old school way tho. (its only my opinion).

BTW what other tutorials/competition do you have in pipeline? (Just curious). :)

  • @k15H0r3

One thing I really want to do is "pilotage" & "dead dead reckoning" navigation, this is navigation where you basically navigate by land marks, but it is extremely hard in MSFS.

i.e, you takeoff, turn to a certain heading, adjust for the wind and reach your first checkpoint, no VORs GPS' ADFs or anything else. Pure visual navigation, you navigate by landmarks and make adjustments in the air.

This BTW is the first thing student pilots learn, even before knowing how a VOR or GPS works.

  • great, full of infos, awesome, and give me your voice, sounds great mr. microphone, lol

  • @FLOCKAIR

Stop mocking me, it is the only voice I have, and this will the first time anyone would have traded their own voices for mine, LOL, you guys crack me up all the time

  • lol flying is becoming easier and easier.

im thinking about getting that plane...but carenado has some nice ones i wanna get first.

  • hey holmie, wassup? well congratulations with your tutorials! but let me ask you something, do you like the garmin g1000? well i won't say that i don't but, i donno i think aviation is becoming really robotic..

  • @gustavo87467357

I love the G1000, but that doesn't mean that that is the only thing I use. A lot of it is robotic, and for a lot of stuff you don't have to think, it is done for you, but actual pilot training involves all kinds of different types of navigation.

Only the future will tell how much this change has affected th piloting community, but great pilots who are enthusiastic about flying will always learn everything well.

  • Great series G! I learned a lot and have been practicing using the GPS to only confirm my navigation.

The Quest Kodiak from Lionheart has wing dihedral ( self leveling ) which can get tiresome fighting it to maintain a bank angle. But I do enjoy flying it. It's a nice bird.

Look forward to more of your tutorials.

  • @02KAINE

Thanks D, but here is the thing, just about every plane has a dihedral wing, from Cessnas to 747's, that's for stability.

Think of a ball bearing on a level piece of plank would, it rolls, but crack the plank in the middle and make it into a V shape and the ball will rest at the bottom of the V, but that shouldn't effect the plane turning that much. It really is an annoying thing in MSFS in an otherwise great plane.

  • @02KAINE

Some pure aerobatic planes are the only ones without the dihedral wingt, but that is because in aerobatic competitions that dihedral stability hinders some aerobatic maneuvers.

  • @FSX404 Did you ever get the Pilatus? It's a really great aircraft to fly.

  • @02KAINE

I completely forgot, I started, and then my lust for being a teenager once again, ADHD and everything, took over , LOL, who was the one that makes it?

  • @FSX404 Flight 1 makes a FSX and FS04 model.

  • Nice man. Are you applying for Commercial pilot?

  • @benfalas

I got finish up my IFR first, thats almost done, then I'll start my commercial training when I get close to 250 hours TT, but that all depends on how much I fly, if I can find another pilot to share the cost of the plane with, I could build 30-40 hours in about 6 months (from when I get my IFR rating), if not, then it will be a year.

  • good one.!!!>.....please watch my new video!!
