This movie, like him, fucks with ur brain it's weird, i'm so serious, i watched this movie for the first time and after it...i don't know if i was in emotional depression but my mind was blank and the only thing that calmed me down was laying in the grass looking up at the stars. I'm fine of course, but never watchiing this movie again!

I think he didn't mean that he didn't understand the story, but the whole plot shatters the way you look at your life and life in general. It confuses your brain even if you understood the movie from the first to the last second.

There are even more endings of "The Butterfly Effect", but despite of the one you saw (The Director's Cut ending) the other endings are similar to this one. Look them up here on youtube. This ending here is my favorite one though because it is nor unrealistic happy neither incredibly sad. It just makes you think...

You saw the Director's Cut Ending. This is the ending from the Cinema version and DVD version, so it's the "original" ending. But, of course, the music here is different (in the original there is Oasis).
