So the picture hanging on the wall, if I'm not mistaken, is for target identification. That is what they are hunting with their submarine? And when they find it, they fire a torpedo at it?

there where both a manual and a computer targeting routine.

The poor guys have also their favorite pin ups hanging on wall but no targeting possible ...
