Mine was happening all the time the engine was running. It turned out to be an AC clutch bearing - go figure. Sounded like PS pump. I had replaced PS tank, fluid, PS pump, o-ring, Alternator front bearing and an idler pulley.
hey Dirk, the groaning on my van only happens when I turn the wheel. Was your groaning happening all the time? You say in the description that you did some other repairs. Did that include changing the power steering pump?
