@briperez Ergo the question mark at the end. So many people think if you teach a family how to fish you've solved their problems. Here's a family that knows how to fish - but still can't survive. And with rising food costs, it's getting worse, not better.
@UnculturedProject Tu-shay, How how about a lesson in hydroponics/aquaponics? Better yet... idk give them the capability to go on the internet. Yes... easier said than done. ;)
@briperez I'm a big advocate of bridging the digital divide. But I think it's best if the poor save enough and see the value in connected technology to buy it themselves. You'd be surprised how many Bangladehis have cellphones. Even with video cameras. Now if internet access gets cheap enough - and they see the value in using it - they might get online themselves.
It is better to give than to receive. You are amazing, if only the royal families of the world would give up their money to help others, this world would be better for everyone. Instead of sitting in their thrones pretending not to know about all the poverty. Like the foolish king who thought he was wearing a robe when he was in fact naked. They think they are complete by accumulating material wealth, but their greed is naked and they cannot hide it.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Turn all men into, no more human poverty. We need to bring back sorcery. Let's hear it for the sorcery.
We can all do small actions to change the world we live in. The lives of those around us. Our neighbours. One small action from everyone would bring us billions of steps closer to compassion, understanding. Greatest of all? Granting those without, a chance to live a life of great happiness.
You are one man doing what you can to change the world and encouraging others to do the same. You are inspiration to others, and people like me.
Really love everything you do Shawn. Wish there was a way to get hundreds more people watching these videos. They really highlight the power of the individual, yet somehow showing the power of a community at the same time.
we do all this help, but it's very disappointing that their government is doing nothing. of the many charities helping the less fortunate, and the many kind people doing what they can, greedy people never cease to take advantage of it all every moment possible.
I'm glad I did since I am from Bangladesh. I went there for the first three years ago and was shocked at all the people I saw up close i saw, and more shocked that no one seemed to care.
Inspiring! My family is from Bangladesh too but I haven't been there for years... looking at someone like you really shows that we all can make a difference.
I'm defs forwarding this vid to my parents haha :)
Good luck with everything you're doing in Bangladesh!
How do I make a donation? Or help this organization in any other way? And don't respond to the donation with a credit card payment because I'm 16, and nobody in my family has a credit card with a substantial amount on it...
@ludaXkillz - PayPal (and credit cards) are the primary way. But, I wouldn't worry about it. Honestly, if you could get 20 of your friends to watch my videos and subscribe to the YouTube channel, that helps as much (if not more) than a $20 donation. It helps give my work momentum.
I feel the title of the video is a little misleading. I read the blog post you wrote about the "teach a man to fish" dilemma you are asked about so often and I thought that you were going to explain THAT in this video. I feel that that is an important issue with your project, and because I admire it and support it and you, I feel you should probably make a video about that dilemma. This video was just a small explanation about what UP accomplishes. Or am I getting this wrong?
@sittingonanmm You're kinda right. This video goes along with that blog post - but not explicitly. I figured that if I made a video focusing on just that, it would be too preachy. So I tried to make this video in a way people can draw their own conclusions without feeling like I'm trying to hammer a particular point.
I think it's good that you avoid being preachy, but I doubt that a video talking about this subject would be preachy at all. I feel it's important because the way you help people is very particular and that makes it harder to understand. I watch your videos and read your blog and feel that your project is amazing, but still I want to understand more about your views on breaking the circle of poverty. You could make it interesting without being preachy! This is still a very moving video.
You and the message that you are putting out there amaze me everyday. It's really incredible what she was able to get for that boy with the price that she pays for one movie ticket.
How do I donate to your project? :) I wish I could do something like this for my home country, India. After graduation I vow to do my best to help. You've inspired me.

This video is amazing. I am so happy that so little can make a difference in someone's life. I think the common belief is that you have to give a lot to help a lot. In fact, Jess changed the lives of a whole family with the money we can spend on a movie ticket. Thank you for all that you do!
Shaun. Although I never met you, you are one of the people I respect the most. I think funding what you're doing is one of the best ways of spending some spare money.
Have you tried getting some kind of sponsor? I think a lot of companies would help if you gave away stuff of them (and thanking them in your videos). Of course that would be stuff not available over there. It's better to support the local farmers instead of shipping tons of rice from the west.
After 2 days of extremely depressing class periods in my Global Issues class, where we were attempting to discuss poverty, and people were being just about as ignorant and prejudiced as you can get, I was feeling let down about people's ability to make a difference.
