  • @ Everyone:

    Here's a riddle: who gives a fuck?

  • Love u J ......

  • Comment removed

  • john mayer is fine as long as he doesn't sing, his voice doesn't match the music his guitar creates.. his guitar work is good for me mostly

  • I'm starting to give Mayer his due. Yes, not funkier than the original. Try to play any song in the history of funky with and without a Hammond G4 organ with a leslie speaker. Yep, the Hammond is the funkiest friggin' instrument ever made. The percussion in this rendition has to be minimal, because the Ziggabo Modeleste drums from the Meters version would overwhelm the accompaniment in this version so hard that you'd just sit there missing the organ. Anyway, pretty damn good.

  • Who said this was a funk contest? All art is interpretation. If you can simply dismiss this performance and see no redeeming value in it, you don't know music. If on the other hand you happen to prefer the Meters, that's your prerogative. But you don't balls tangled in your Y fronts. Simple truth is I've heard the Meters treat this song several different ways. Are they deserving of the same criticism for not being true to the original?

  • @jbrent1953 Once you've created a Classic, you deserve some latitude in its presentation. But if you re-make a Classic, you should try to make it better. Or enhance, the essential qualities. I must agree with most, John Meyer just didn't do that. My first born, will listen to the METERS.

  • @Dactuck

For a guy who speaks of latitude you should perhaps allow your first born to draw his/her own conclusions.

  • @jbrent1953 Good point. Sports or Music?

  • @Dactuck

For me it was both. Never could make up my mind.

  • @jbrent1953 The Meters version is better. The Steelers are better than the Cowboys. But your honesty wins. I guess that is what I'll try to teach. Thanks.

  • @Dactuck

Gotta respect a guy who both knows the Meters and likes them. That being said, go Saints.

  • @jbrent1953 HA! 1 Love Brother.

  • @Dactuck

    Right back at ya!

  • This most definitely is NOT funkier than the meters. In a perfect world, making such silly declarations would be a misdemeanor :)

  • I like John Mayer, but this is by no means a funkier version than the original.

  • @moregaijinthanyou ...How could anyone say this is FUNKIER than the meters version!!!...You right man!!!!

  • Steve Jordan on drums.......awesome! Funky!!!

  • Give Steve Jordan any drum set and he'll still rock the shit off that set.

  • @jazzyrendy So true, brother.

  • TROLOLOL at the kids fighting.

What's the difference between Blues and Funk, @Oozijacuzzi?

And don't just give me, "One has more of a slap sound, more sharper tones than the other." Use musical terms and show us all what you know.

    Same goes for you, Questionvideo.

  • None of you posters would know funk or blues if they both took fat shits on all your faces. OFWGKTM

  • @questionvideo

i know a lot about funk and blues you pussy fucking bitch.

john mayer doesnt know a damn thing about either

sure he probably knows a couple of Hendrix and SRV tunes

but he just isn't able to play the guitar well.

kurt cobain of nirvana has more technical skill and soul than this cunt. and he can sing and write a damn song a million times better. john mayer makes fun of the kid justin bieber in some video even tho really hes no different in musical ability. fight me you prick

  • @oozijacuzzi You lost all credibility when you mentioned Kurt Cobain and technical skill in the same sentence. He wrote great music, but he's not technical. Pick any video of Cobain displaying his very best technical skills, and I'll show you ten videos of John Mayer displaying better technical skills. Also, how many people now know about this song because of you? Probably none, because all you do is whine from your vagina about it. How many because of John Mayer... thousands.

  • fuck this dude

john mayer is such a cunt pussy bitch

he puts no soul into his playing

  • @oozijacuzzi your a cunt pussy bitch. I know John Mayer, he's dope.

  • @questionvideo

i dont give a fuck who you know its who you are bitch

john mayer is a fuckhead who doesnt even deserve having his name capitalized i mean have you heard the original The Meters version? it blows his little dick shit with the cliched gay ass solo cover out of the water. i listen to this and dont understand how im not famous. john mayer has a voice like justin bieber that makes 12 year old girls wet, he plays guitar like i did when i was a kid. he's not dope at all u deaf dumbshit.

  • The Meters did it better--the Meters' drummer had a thicker, fatter sound. Don't know if it's the sound quality, but the drums have a rather thin sound here.

  • The only reason this is good is because Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino are playing, and even Steve Jordan doesn't lay back enough for this tune.

  • wow, so much hate on this video for no reason! i think this is great! i'm not really a JM fan, but i like his take on the song. really enjoyed it. cheers!

  • Funkier than the Meters? Are you out of your f*ckin mind!!!???

  • I absolutely love this and never get tired of it. One of my favourite videos on youtube, without shadow of a doubt.

  • Yeah - not bad for a white boy, and thanks for posting just the same. But, I'd be real careful saying any cover was better than the guys that wrote it!

  • what a douche

  • Does he slurp up his own spunk too? Wouldn't want to waste any more of him than necessary...sheesh what a dildorado!

  • we need ziggy :(

  • It's okay. Not anywhere near as good as The Meters. Plus, he is so effing full of himself. Get over yourself, John. The rest of us have.

  • If anybody is still in doubt as to whether this is lame or not, listen to what Mayer does at 0.46 and it should clear things up for you.

  • @brenfen so what?? he does some blooping beeping noise. that makes it cool?!? still thinks this is as funky as fresh laundry.

  • @LazyBastard69 No, I was implying that this is just one of many LAME things about this performance by Mr. Mayer. Not cool. Definitely not cool.

  • @brenfen You mean that half-fast wolf-whistle? Ah...that clears everything up. Any drunk swabby with a $50 Silvertone guitar can play that sort of lick. GTFO.

  • @IMCcanTWEESTED I was saying it was lame, not cool. Christ.

  • Makes me laugh how all the 'purists' out there rip this as not being as funky as the original - just 'cause it's John Mayer doesn't make it valid. He's a brilliant guitarist and muso full stop - to deny that is just being silly!

  • funkier version AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH no.

  • Nice try John .... not that he did bad...just The Meters cant be touched.

  • This is a good cover, but agree with the comments that this has nowhere near the funk and soul that the Meters brought.

  • @kgkgcanuck if the meters were in this video playing the EXACT same thing as john mayer plays, you would think its amazing. just shut up. you can't even do any of this in the first place so don't talk

  • @Theshamham I was playing Meters songs before you were in diapers probably. Yes, I can do this stuff. I like John Mayer and I like the Meters. Take your meds...

  • @kgkgcanuck Haha I'm probably better then you despite the fact that you're an old fart whose been playing for a hell of a lot longer...

  • @Theshamham I'm sure you're amazing...

  • @Theshamham Where are all those videos of you being amazing again? The links seem to be gone...

  • This is a good cover, but agree with the comments that this has nowhere near the funk and soul that the Meters brought.

  • I believe there's a typo in the description there's no such thing as funkyer then the meters.

  • wow is there any style john can't play?

  • sounds pretty good , steve jordan is great ..... but there is something about John Mayer that is terribly annoying

  • @sweetfly66 maybe that he's really really good?

  • @tjsfender ... I didnt say anything about his playing . He`s obviously really good . But lets face it , I am not the only one who thinks there is something annoying about John Mayer . Its something you cant put your finger on . And its got nothing to do with the way he plays . Its an annoying vibe he gives off .

  • Either sound isn't synced or he never played the song. I think its just not synced..

  • Ditto.......NOT funkier....ok, nice try, but NO.

  • nvm, maybe the audio is just off

  • this isn't them, sounds like some dubbed over version to the video.

  • oh what im gonna do to this song when i get tabs and learn it.....its not so much as gonna be funy as its gonna f'n ROCK!!!

  • Meters kill...

  • Funkier??? What??? If anything he (they) straighten it out in comparison.

  • Sorry no way as Funky as Ziggaboo on drums but Steve Jordan still kicks ass.

  • actually kinda stiff...stick to soft rock john

  • Different and also quite good! But definitely not funkier....

  • Great job by an amazing player, but it ain't the Meters.

  • Its not funkier, bit I enjoyed it alot, a song not many would have come across if he didn't play it!

  • @hermanshermits124124 wrong! look at the comments! clearly no on typed in "john mayer fuk" we all typed cissy strut

  • @kalpal67 wrong! I never knew this song existed until I heard him play it. but thanks for your two cents

  • @sk8rbuoi im sorry everyone who matters typed in cissy strut

  • Funkier?? My ass. Go funk yourself.

  • dont quite get the drummer playing a cocktail drum set, doesnt make this any funkier. John just needs to make his blues record already and quit the pop shit.

  • I like the video, but it does not have the same level of funk as the Meters. Jonny does a good job though.

  • Dont even have the organ

  • Funkier?....uh no.

  • Funkier? This has like no funk to it at all. @pustudent, you're a mangina.

  • This guy is good....period!

  • I love mayer...he's a sick guitar player and I effin' love this cover but I have to agree can't touch the funk the meters had

  • @haye7880 Look around an you'll see that this cover is the only one that captures the essence of what the original is all about. The original is the best, but this is the closest to it I've heard

  • Nothing can top the Meters original, but its certainly better than some of the shitty Meters live versions on YouTube.

  • at 2:02 the guitar harmony is funky between him and his bass player

  • Whatever, it's good, the guitar is like a razor blade...drums are awesome too!!! oh yeah!!

  • Definitely a good take on a classic, but it's never gonna be as good as the original!

  • WOW, not even the great steve jordan can save mayer's lilly white ass!!

  • you need to change your description of this video before you get off'd by the

    Meter Mafia...

  • Yes he can play...but guess what? John Mayer is a DOUCHE.

  • this is good but not funkier than original, he's coming towards the front of the beat

  • Funkier than the Meters version?? Hell no!!!

  • @brenfen - hell yes actually, inmy opinion!! Lol...

  • Where is this, cuz the crowd look like they dont know a damn thing bout some funk.

  • no groove here.... its like.........nothing

  • @mantatnam my friend, you have to be kidding me. look over at who we got on the cocktail drums... that's steve jordan. you're telling me this has no groove? i'll say it again. that's steve jordan. you wanna talk about groove youtube him. who's on the far right? why, that's pino palladino. both of these guys have played with everybody. EVERYBODY. now, my guess is your judgement of this having no groove comes from a hate for john mayer. look beyond the name for a second. there is groove here.

  • @PurcellTV i dont think like that...but......i dont feel any groove here.it doesnt matter who plays maybe you should look beyond the name becouse you obviously like mayer :D.....anyway doesnt matter listen to it like you hear it and its cool

  • @PurcellTV Exactly, man, all these kids whining and critiquing typically have no music career, no record deals, no videos of themselves playing anything (let alone as good or better) no pocket, no groove, no soul. If they would be too busy bobbing their heads to write a bunch of BS. Speaking of which, I need to get back to head bobbing...

  • Big fan of John Mayer, but definitely not "funkier"...It's good though, kinda wish he tried a different tone other than his usual

  • love the tone of that guitar. especially when he plays those short chords in the main riff. its the maximum amount of distortion ment for this song

  • C'mon guys, second line needs to be greasy, slippery, a little dirty and played in that magical space between straight and swung. I respect that this is your interpretation but that doesn't make it real. Glad to see the Meters getting some well deserved attention though.

  • Better than i expected, a little too loose.

  • This is plenty funky. I used to think John Mayer was a tool but I realize now that he actually is a damn good musician.

  • THIS IS BULL SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who cares about how funky it is or not

    look at john's face

    :)

  • At least he picked out a good song. It's not really a guitar song. John Mayer is a good guitar player who respects his influences. The drummer didn't know it on this version.

  • @jhowardkelley It was written on a guitar... but oh well. He probably got this idea from when he was playing shows with schoffield.

  • not bad for a white boy from the suburbs

  • not tight enough to be funk. got some groove though.

  • I love John, but come on, he wouldn't know what the fuck funk is if it weren't for the Meters.

  • yea this aint that funky...but its still sounds good.

  • surely not funkier than The Meters, obsurd to think anyone can be funier than The Meters/.

  • "funier" = Funkier

  • John Mayer... love his acustics and his voice..unusual... plus the fact a young man loves the blues....just grabs my heart. Thank you pustudent for sharing this upload of yours.

  • That's not funky at all

  • This is cool. I like it.

  • Not bad for a white boy.

  • did you really describe this as funkier than the Meters" bwahahaha!

  • This is not funkier than the Meters. Not by a country mile.

  • cool guitar !

  • John Mayer is kind of a douchebag, but jesus he can play that funk! Goddamn. Its nice to see a lot of modern artists can appreciate the classics.

  • he writes a pop album to get peoples attention, then he does his bluesy stints like this for a while, then he writes another pop record to keep people interested. then repeats the process. its too bad people have to do this to stay popular. the music industry has gone to complete crap, and people saying 'he sucks' are to stupid to know any better.

  • No B3. No Cissy Strut. Word

  • he should go back to playing cute shit

  • john mayer sucks ass. people like him because they hae neer heard music before

  • @TheWatchGoesTick ...they neer heard music before? I think you should learn to spell before making criticisms.

  • @dude9521 sorry i thought youd be smart enough to realize my V key wasnt working. but with a name like dude9521, im sure your quite the intellectual.

  • @TheWatchGoesTick You're right! Someone with the name TheWatchGoesTick is obviously so much smarter. Why are you watching this video if you dislike John Mayer.

  • @TheWatchGoesTick i have no idea what you just said, you do realize that slavery was abolished and you don't have to pretend to speak incorrectly in front of the "white folk no mo"?

  • @thatssogay88 what in the hell are you even talking about? did you read the right comment?

  • crap

  • john mayer sucks

  • Who cares who funks better, does it matter? Its not a sport people, music isnt a compitition.

  • There's a rare amount of motherfuckers funkier than the Meters. John mayer, although he's great, is not one of them.

  • Hey poostudent: Steve Jordan is badass, but how could you even suggest that this was funkier than Zigaboo, Porter, Nocentelli and Neville!!?? I mean, come on man! And why does Mayer choose to play the one tune by The Meters that everybody wants to play, the obvious one, couldn't he dig a little deeper?! Most of the comments here are refuting your deemed status of this version!!

  • Funkier than what? Maybe funkier than Oz Noy's version, but obviously not the Meters...

  • This might be the best tone I've ever heard.. :')

  • see why can't john mayer just shit the f*** up and play guitar?? he's very talented, but god DAMN i hate his records. props for this though.

  • When he stops the hollywood bullshit and the totally insipid pop music he insists on selling, then maybe that day he'll have enough genuine funk and soul in him to earn the respect of the real blues and funk musicians and audience. Selling out damages the resources that self expression draw upon, resulting in lesser music. I don't care if others disagree it's true.

  • No disrespect to John Mayer. He's a great guitar player but this is by no means funkier than the meters. It doesn't have nowhere near the stank on it.

  • @Moneyshotm It's more the fault of the drummer than John Mayer.

  • @soulofshiver the drummer is awesome.. you're retarded.

  • Funkier version? wheres the B3? Regardless, he still managed to retain the funk. Props.

  • Showbiz funk. Lame!!!!

  • not funkier than the Meters. Good musicianship. But not funkier. Solo was cool but not funky. Give it some space and breathe for the funk.

  • hmmm.....

  • He plays ok, but he just put more gain and make strange face to look more funky, but fuck, Leo Nocentelli was quite more funked up!

  • gotta agree with gnomehunter good but not even fucking close to how funky "The Meters" are i mean cmon....

  • This piece of shit versions far from being funkier than the meters.

  • Pino, and Steve... Funky as hell. But get your foot out of your mouth. A funkier version???

    You are a jackhole!

  • Funkier? No. Just. No.

  • Funkier? Cmon! Nobody can be more divine than god.

  • usual JM. fail.

  • Sure not funkier than The Meters... come on...

  • @scappidoni

the tone of John is better I find

  • @scappidoni

C'mon man. Close your eyes and act like you didn't read that it was John Mayer puttin' this down. Tell me you would still say it's not funkier. Sometimes I wish(hypothetically) that all music lovers were blind so there'd be no way to judge a tune 'cause of who's playing it. 'Cause in all honesty this is groovy as hell; and JM's tone and playing combined add a nice kick it to the classic. We should respect him rather than rip him for playing this song. Obviously he's got good taste.

  • @surfer1211 Groovy yes.. funkier than The Meters? NOT EVEN!!

  • @scappidoni it definitely doesnt have the some pop in the beginning.

  • Steve Jordan on the cocktail kit.. Dope!

  • Yeah, I saw that bro... shit is dope!!

  • see, that's a mistake a lot of people make. just because you play it with that dumb look on your face and put some fill-ins does not make it funkier than the meters.

  • Awesome. I love this tune.

  • This is a cool cover of Meters ' Cissy Strut ' I like it this pretty nice but...

I want my FUNK funkier like 3 weeks old dirty socks smellin' like corn chips and pig feet LOL

  • I've heard a lot of versions of this song... no one can top the original Meters

  • not funkier

  • NOT funkier than the Meter version, sorry.

  • Good version, but NOT funkier than the the OG Meters version.

  • funkk

  • oh man this is what i'm talkin' bout. Mayer needs to focus his awesomeness on this style. dig it...

  • Nice muting.

  • funk is in the soul, all of you who judge don't know how to funk, because people who like to funk don't judge.
