hey, got a quick question! I bought a 2009 Toyota Corolla XRS back in June of last year
(* traded it in for a much bigger car, family grew) I noticed when I used the auto-manual, or Tip-tronic as some call it, There would be one specific gear that would get stuck when using the auto-manual it is 3rd gear, wondering if you would have the same problem, although can't test it out now cause I obviously don't have it. Hmm... Just wondering if it was just my particular car or is it a problem in others
I drove Toyota Corolla "S" from Phoenix AZ to Salt Lake City, UT.
My overall impressions ware good but there are few things I didn't like!
First thing was the Engine. The 1.8L engine has a good torque from 0-30Mph, but in the range from 30-60Mhp it has hard time moving the car!
The second thing was the absence of Stability control! I can't believe that in 2009 models the stability control is not standard! Every time the road gets twisty the car goes off the line! That is very scary!
Although the 06 has a little more horsepower......it losses on the torque. This is where the 09-10 makes up for in the torque at a respectable 162ft/lbs...it has i believe 158hp......my 2010 XRS has a cold air with K&N.I dynoed it at 172 hp.
Very nice car, and I like the re-design but I think the new 2010 Mazda 3s will be a better car. More HP with the same fuel economy as the XRS, and a much better, more robust, and feature rich interior. The Corolla's interior is too plain jane.
Slow? There's power on paper and there's usable power. A high-strung, high-revving 200 hp car may have less usable hp compared to a car with more low and mid-range punch...
I happen to own a 2007 Corolla S maxed out with all the trimmings possible. Quite honestly, i am really liking the re-design, of this 10th Generation model. However, for the simple fact, that the XRS was discontiuned for a while there, and that thankfully it was brought back as an automatic option. In closing, i probably should have waited, to get the 10th Generation Xrs automatic model, albeit i'm VERY satisfied with my 126hp '07 S model as much as it lags by 32hp compared to the '09 Xrs model.
that car is a rip-off. the dealership wants about 25k for that car and its really not fast and does not have good handling like a sports compact car. i dont know, but to me i could get a nissan sentra ser spec v with better handling and more horsepower
I happen to Drive this same car..and this car is fast as fuck for an automatic..and if u go over a bump wid this car..u dont even feel anything..it rides over it like nutin
It's the engine displacement defined by total volume of the air/fuel mixture the engine can draw in during a cycle. It usually said in cubic centimeters instead of liters. But yeah it's the volume swept by the piston as it moves from top to bottom. In this engines case it's a 2.4 L or 2382 cc
thinking about getting the 09 XRS... how's the ride and handling? smooth and nimble? I have an '03 corolla and it's boring and choppy as f*ck. anyway thanks for sharing
Automatic?? That's quite a downer...

Hey do you notice a lag when you hit the throttle? I have a 09 xrs also and I'm wondering if this is normal or is something wrong with my car.

@zttaki1 Does having a CAI void your warranty if something is to happen to your engine? So 170 just with th intake?
professorxox 1 year ago
@zttaki1 Yes if you have the full CAI....you will pump out around 172hp.Also when i give full throttle.....i dont notice any lag whatsoever.

this car is slower than the 2006? right?
slowep6 2 years ago

Im not a honda fan or anything but the XRS is SLOW compared to other sports compacts...What were they thinking putting 158hp on it?

Isn't it supposed to have sequential shifting e.g.: sportshift, tiptronic when it comes automatic?
superfragger 3 years ago
debating whether to get an S class with additional options (moonroof, rear-deck spoiler, etc) or just go even higher with an XRS
Besides performance, does the XRS differ much from an S with added options?
spycspider 3 years ago
not anything significant...so If performance doesn't matter to you, then the s with the sport package is just as good

can anyone tell me what the litres mean like 2.4 L engine? does it mean that everytime time the pistons come down for more fuel it adds up to 2.4l?

same engine as the camery but tuned differently.
in fact its the same as the one in the 2009 XRS corolla, XRS matrix, and pontiac vibe gt.
