  • For the price of a jet ski or UTV you can buy a safe and engineered design like quicksilver. They are very safe if common since and mechanical ability is applied.

There is so many engineering factors actually go into the safety of an aircraft.

Plastic melts and deteriates in the elements. By the time you spend all that time and money experimenting with something that is not a proven design you can save money and buy a good ultralite. Never assume.

  • @cmartman48 I think the Wright brothers had your attitude

  • can you give me the plans?

  • Superb!

  • Can I use packing tap on a ultralight? And how did you do it? Did you go horizontally or vertically?

  • i just have to start giving a shit..... lol

  • I know this video is old, but can you ask that builder what kind of see-through coverage that is? It look really nice.

  • @iRenaatsouvagie

the answer is in the video.

  • @iRenaatsouvagie he used packing tape. says it in the video

  • what type of wood are you using for the wings?

  • @ALLERTORLOVER69 All home depot products.

  • He can probably make a nice ebook or something of the construction theory and processes and ideas.

  • there are materials that are very strong, they just have never been tested or approved for all applications.Have you ever noticed the clear plastic around DVD's and CD's ?I wouldn't use it on a wing as a cover, but it is super strong and very light.

  • Does anybody know how I can get a hold of this guy?

  • Hi glendeco, does Eric have plans for this wing or complete plane that he's building? I would very much like to know as I love to fly and would love to be able to build my own plane to fly, especially if I can do it for as little as $1,000.00 bucks! PLEASE ask Eric to respond to me as I am VERY interested!!! Thank you for your time!

  • hey i got a question, PACKING TAPE>???? like the stuff at walmart/staples? did you just overlap them ever so slightly? that's awesome. I just started with Foamie planes this week, I've always wanted to fly. I just need 2 servo's and ill be able to fly it around the yard. Where did you start if I may ask? seriously packing tape??

  • @ Glendeco

what was the cheapest plane built

  • Hey Glendeco..... I know as a pilot myself that flying or even owning a plane for that matter has become so expensive, General Aviation is dwindling.... at least here in California. I think Eric is on to something fantastic! Is there any word yet that you know if he is willing to offer plans or better yet video of the processes to make inexpensive homebuilts?

  • @TAWSCENARIOS Hello, I believe the buzzkill on the video idea was liability issues.

  • @glendeco Too bad people have no freedom.

  • How much does he overlap the tape strips?

  • @hess8y I think he said 1/4 inch. Man I wished I had been able to get to know the guy better before we lost "The Dude". I can't even remember where the guy lives now. I will ask Kieths daughter to see if she might know how to contact this builder.

  • @glendeco I hope you locate Eric. I really want to see covering process, see finished plane, etc. Respecting his privacy, maybe you can open line of questioning where we can ask Q's to him through you? I want to ask why the rib capstrips are "scalloped". Please ask if he'll allow you to document his construction process, his designs. No doubt, there are many more than just me who are intruiged by what you've posted so far.

    Thnx, Mike

  • @dodgedartgtmb Mike, I was just on the phone not ten minutes ago getting contact info. I can answer your question about the capstrips though, he said it was to save weight withought sacrificing strength. He handed me a consturcted rib, and told me to try and crush it. Strong, strong stuff. I tell you, I wished I had more memory space for the things he showed me. Mad skills is all I can say. And the wings, soo strong yet light as a feather. I'm working on it brother, stay tuned.

  • @glendeco Thnx! I'll be keeping my eyes out. Do me a favor though, give me a shout when you know more!

    Mike

  • do you have any followup video other than the 4 on here at the present?

  • @ksgjlg Unfortunately no. Kieth, the dude commenting in one of the videos, was the friend who introduced me to Eric the builder. Well Kieth has passed away recently, and I have no way of contacting Eric. We all miss Kieth already. He gave me a piano and never got to come back to tune it for me. Fuk you Kieth. But you know what, I understand bro... RIP...

  • Wow i think he just inspired me to start on my own (finally!)

Can you please tell me what kind of wood he uses? and does he use more then one layer of tape? exactly what kind?? im also interest in what kind of engines a genius like this might use, for i am at a lose of what to use myself. i am thinking of using a motorcycle engine, i dont need much HP so i rly dont know. it must be awesome to see this guy work. Is he anywhere near florida? lol

  • Why'd i get married?

  • @CerealPest Because you love her....

  • can he make a video shownung you how to make a whole ultralight step by step

and how much would it cost to make one of those

  • Sorry, i'm not a native english speaker... I can't get what he says: "It is ¿....? tape?" , Packing tape?

  • Yes, you heard right. LOL!

  • @igna924 tape for packages

  • If you know this guy could you ask him how much he would charge to build me a Hummel Ultracruiser, the complete plane, or if you could provide me with some contact info that would be great too, thanks

  • He says he's done building planes for other people. BUT, that was some time ago. I will contact him and see if he is interested. He is a bit of an introvert and likes privacy. I was surprised that he allowed me to post this video.Wish me luck with Mr. Aircraft Wonka.

  • haha... "there gonna get better".... "i just have to start giving a shit" ROFL. Looks like you care a little bit, i couldn't do that.

  • Does this guy have a way I could contact him? I'm very interested in his packing tape method!

  • This guy is a bit of an introvert, and works for the simple pleasure of it. He said that the key to use this type of material and achieve a solid success is to keep it clean, use a quality tape and LOTS of time and patience. He said you can start by practicing bonding the strips of tape very closely together and if there are any bubbles, you can work them out as you go quite easily. It's not as hard as you might think. If you have any modeling experience, you can do this.
