Carl Sagan is one of my heroes that I look up to. Well the top one at that, and it means alot that you would go through the effort to make this series. My familly and some of my freinds became interested in science because of them. Mainly for The Story of Everything [Carl Sagan Tribute Series, Part 11] . That one makes them say "wow"

TV should be filled with things like this, no mindless soaps, no cooking programs. They are of no importance. The news should have rational thinkers like Richard Dawkins and Neil Tyson presenting them, science lectures should be shown prime time. The world would be a better place.
What if we make contact with other life in the universe and it considers us to be food, slaves, fuel, or entertainment - much how we treat other intelligent life here on earth (pigs, elephants, dolphins, etc.) If we do find life, I hope it is not only intelligent, but compassionate and... humanistic.

Carl Sagan died at the age of 62. So young to today standards. To think he could've lived another twenty years. Now that would be amazing, to have Carl Sagan just for a little while longer.

He mentioned in Cosmos about civilizations enormously older and wiser than we, implying our position in the spectrum. The segment that included the hypothetical energy crisis forcing a planet to go into space to harvest all the sunlight comes from Cosmos.

TV should be filled with things like this, no mindless soaps, no cooking programs. They are of no importance. The news should have rational thinkers like Richard Dawkins and Neil Tyson presenting them, science lectures should be shown prime time. The world would be a better place.

What if we make contact with other life in the universe and it considers us to be food, slaves, fuel, or entertainment - much how we treat other intelligent life here on earth (pigs, elephants, dolphins, etc.) If we do find life, I hope it is not only intelligent, but compassionate and... humanistic.

Carl Sagan died at the age of 62. So young to today standards. To think he could've lived another twenty years. Now that would be amazing, to have Carl Sagan just for a little while longer.

@Atheist961 What religious ppl don't know, is that even if there was a god, ironically atheists would probably be those the closest to god amongst all group of people. Because atheists reject the religious reasons for the existence of the universe or natural phenomena and look them out in reality, scientifically. We understand better nature than they do. And if god exist, the only sample we have of him is nature. So as a matter of fact, we would be those with the best understanding of him.

I watched this immediately after getting the news that Bin Laden is dead. I thought to myself .... how pitiful our main concerns today , how eager are we to get into petty squabbles when knowing there is a great ocean of possibilities awaiting for us if only we just turn our heads up ..... sometimes the human race puzzles me .... for all our potential I wonder why do we get into such redundant little problems

Because people are selfish and obsessed with a God who isnt there. They think that the entire universe was created by an evil God character who tortures people in hell for all eternity because they werent born into the right religion or believe in a God at all. Many billions of people are very small minded and arent capable of thinking about what may lie beyond and are just too caught up in their own, ultimately useless lives.

$156k per 6 meter disk? Couldn't they get it made in China for maybe $15K? Imagine 420 disks instead of 42. With 42 you can't hear a thing even if alien scream on top of their lungs. For science's sake we need to get there faster and do more with cheaper.

Sad news about SETI, however. It really angers me how the government treats space exploration as a minor importance, when it is of the highest possible importance and always will be. Hopefully SETI get back on their feet eventually, they definitely have my support as a donor.

I wonder where we would be if it was the other way around...
Or, We could just do away with the whole war thing altogether and channel all that effort/money we put into wars into something more productive for our species, like exploring space and expanding our knowledge of the universe.

@marasu66 I'm not exaggerating at all. Nations worldwide are more than willing to spend that kind of money, collectively, on war each year. While, we spend a comparatively measly $38 billion on space. worldwide, each year.
I think the fact that we spend more money on killing each other than we do on exploring and learning about space is a grounded concern.
Yeah, your right, they would much rather spend all that money on something else... like, the $2,100,000,000,000 set aside for war.

I also know, that every great achievement of Rome (or any great civilization) would have been impossible without her legions. As long as savages seek the destruction of enterprise, reason and prosperity, we will need hard men to guard our walls with implements of death. As many attack helicopters per year as it takes.
I eagerly await the day it is no longer necessary to do so.

@RealitysAdvocate I agree. But in a way, can we truly deny religious fundamentalism as a real threat? My gut says no... Now the appropriation of where we place that money (and how much) is up for debate within the Military Budget. But I do feel like religious fundamentalism can screw us if we slack off. I don't think I'm being paranoid either. I truly wish we could put most of our money into the Worldwide Space Budget...

He mentioned in Cosmos about civilizations enormously older and wiser than we, implying our position in the spectrum. The segment that included the hypothetical energy crisis forcing a planet to go into space to harvest all the sunlight comes from Cosmos.
