I need to show this to my students, and their parents, the next time someone complaints that my asking them to kick the air or do a form is "too hard".
No this is not abuse.....it is their way of life and how their family wishes to use their life and time....its all.about conditioning....when a person works hard with his/her hands all day they will have callous on their hands...tie is the same thing...although this type of training takes time and dedication.
This is abuse :( The way that they're treating the kids is especially illegal in the U.S. It gives me a headache just thinking about getting bricks smashed on my head.
severe abuse used to get this level of perfection-mkultra all over again-look up tibetan monk abusers-why peghouses is name of male prostitute houses in malaysia
All of this is easily explainable by the physics involved and fairly easy to reproduce with the proper methodology and a bit of practice. I'm not saying it's healthy but it's far from what it appears. Child abuse? By some standards, I'm sure. By others, certainly not. I wouldn't have my kid doing it by any stretch of the imagination.
I've seen videos of ppl from the USA feeding stuff to their kids that most asian people wouldn't even put to their organical garbage. That's what I call child abuse.
Child abuse? Does anyone in USA have any intellectual knowledge seems so many feel Hear Say and Gossip as fact.. THIS is OLD SCHOOL TRUE Martial Art Training its what makes someone stronger then Fear.. mind of matter, and WHY Most Americans are becoming Obese population and Lazy.. everything is too hard, mean, abuse, and yet we are a race of FAT LAZY SELF SEVERING and complacent kind of like the way Rome was before the fall of the empire! WAKE UP PPL learn from OTHERS stop being SUCH WIMPS
@canectar thanks for the comment. as an overweight and lazy american myself, i completely agree with your statements. i wish i was half as tough as these kids.
My only concern, from a medical standpoint a childs head needs to expand until it reaches the standard adult circumference. Bone-hardening, "which is what there doing" could effect its growth or even stop the cranial vault from fully forming. Other then that, bone hardening and muscle hardening is a fairly usefull attribute.
i believe in chi kung and internal energy for health reasons but these and most all of chi king skills are nothing but learn skills that most Westerners see it as incredible when in reality they are just practice and learn. The tiles, nuts, and nut cracking are done by hitting fast but stopping not continuing the impact. Search Chinese street kid performance and you will see a bunch of poor Chinese kids doing this. Back in china this is called beggars skills. It still admirable to watch
most of this so called chi kung is actually consider street perfomance art you dont need an iron throat to bend the bar you only need to not push it straight forward but pressed down right on your bone
i hear that. there definately is a showmanship to this whole performance. check out :18 when the old man is "trying" to straighten out the bar again. looks a little staged. a stack of roofing tiles to the head of a 6 year old is pretty hardcore though.
nope i don't think it's child abuse. The kids seem cool about it and plus this is done with years of training the father knows what the kids are really capable of. This is actually quite awesome ^_^
how in the world would you even consider this child abuse......... It is amazing and brilliant. A form of martial arts. This is the kids lives which they love.
Instead of judging an artform and way of life on a basis of brutality before learning to respect their history, customs and traditions, try watching the way they look at and speak with each other. You can't hear their words, but by their body language, they seem to hold a lot of respect for each other.
I assume that the child began training as son as he was able and is already probably more capable and confident at his age than most people become within their lifetimes.
Yes, it is a little ridiculous, but Kung Fu isn't all about technique. As you can quite obviously see, they also train their bodies to be literally as hard as rock. I can't speak for their family values because I don't know what they are, but the kid's smile doesn't seem posed and I would bet very good money that he's actually quite thankful for strength, confidence, and independence shown to him through discipline, hard work and a little pain.
Hey man I appreciate the comments. I do respect the art form. There are thousands vids on youtube called "Kung Fu Kids" and I added the "this is child abuse" line in part to catch people's attention. Call it unethical if you want but I think its an awesome clip and that more people should see it. I wouldnt have gone through the trouble of putting it online if I didnt think it was a worth it. anyway thanks again for the remarks.
and yeah its very amazing that their bodies can handle all that. there's definately more to it than simply smashing someone on the head. Like the narrator says, "an adult couldnt take one tile." I know I couldnt.
I need to show this to my students, and their parents, the next time someone complaints that my asking them to kick the air or do a form is "too hard".
