its easy to put a diesal in a 4runner you make motor mounts do some wiring and get a tranny adaptor from acme and than once done youll have a diesal 4runner good job on this one
Wondering if I could put this engine in a 1998 Ford e150 Van? Any clue if it can handle the weight of the vehicle on the open road, and taking somewhat decent inclines on mountain routes through PA. Got a source for used veggie oil. The stock V8 is powerful and fun, but otherwise a gas guzzler, no doubt.
The smaller displacement om617, or even the om606 might prove worthy for a swap on this van.
@bebop00 and mixed with a first gen 4Runner!?... forget about it. You'll have everyone shedding a tear of joy as you cruise by. Not to mention you've already made up my mind at 1:15 that I'm going diesel after my 22RE blows in my 85 Runner.
strange, the runners here come only with the 1kzt 3.0 diesel engine, wich is allready a great engine. u could go for that or the 4.1 15BFT from the work van. are u using the stock turbo? what about the gearing?
@tpvalley The OM617 is widely regarded as the greatest most reliable diesel engine ever built. It is entirely mechanical and requires absolutely NO electricity to run. Great reliability is key for a 4WD...especially when going in the water.
toyota diesels share a similar bulletproof reputation and have same bhp ish. for all that effort u could have fitted a factory option, if going for a merc engine fit a mechanically injected 6 cylinder turbo charged one and get good power aswell or fit the 4.2 landcruiser diesel.
You'd be surprised at how hard it it to roll a Toyota, they aren't like shitty Jeeps which will roll in a mall parking lot as the driver make a routine turn (search "Jeep fail").
Hey I saw your hybrid on a forum I've got a couple extra OM616 and a Mitsubishi 4x4 sitting out back also got a 2wd tranny sitting in the shop after seeing how you did it I'm gonna follow in your footsteps although mine isn't gonna be nearly the bad ass mudder yours is still make something out of junk.
@flenny i love diesels. but im still not sure wat to put and replace my 22r. i need something bullet proof. for right now my 22r is as bulletproof as they come.
@alphabooger the 1hz is as bullet proof as diesels come, toyota uses them in their medium duty trucks and buses like the coaster and in the land cruiser prado (lexus lx 470 in the US)...its a turbo 3 litre I6 which puts out way more torque than the 22r
@alphabooger sorry dont know any websites but its mainly mounting points that will be different so shouldnt be too difficult as long as u get engine and gearbox, btw my mistake...the 1kz-te is the 3litre turbo I6, the 1hz is the larger 4.2litre I6, still a durable engine
@flenny first of all the 1 hz is three grand minimum,,,,,,,, and is 8 inches too long to fit under the hood,,,,, and less power,, go back to the drawing board and the basement son. lol u are stupid. stupid!!!
first of all the 1 hz is three grand minimum,,,,,,,, and is 8 inches too long to fit under the hood,,,,, and less power,, go back to the drawing board and the basement son. lol u are stupid. stupid!!!
@Ryoukun16 Yeah you're thinking of the shitty 6.0L International that Ford has used since '04. My granddad had a 7.3L 'Stroke. All he did was delete the EGR and give it a mild ECM, and it ran up to 454,xxx miles when he sold it and it STILL ran like it was new. There ain't anything wrong with a 7.3L and they are torque monsters. Also, there ain't no way you're getting one into a Yota, lol.
@Ryoukun16 Agreed, but civic's aren't a pos, not many cars for 16k that can match a civic's reliability. A civic is nothing to brag about, but it gets the job done cheap, and you can beat the crap out of them and they can take it. Not sure why people are talking about civics on this video though.. I've never seen a civic driving in the woods lol..
Civic's dont drift they skid real drifting can only be done by a rear wheel drive ass wipe, so technically these bad ass Toyota's can drift (if they wanted to) better than your Civic while in 2wd. You need to learn your shit before you talk.
Man I love Diesels.....wish Toyota would have given the U.S. a better chance at accepting them so they were plentiful........yeah I know its a home brew and yes I am jealous......I hope to do I diesel swap in my double cab someday

I know my question will sound stupid but I would like to know what makes the engine stop. is there an electric fuel pump required?
Thanks for your time.

@dicairemartin In his build thread on b4tswaps dot com he said that is is a vaccum switch that shuts it down.

@jangleberrypie Search "Jeep Fail" it's the 14th one down, the thumbnail is all gray, it's a 12 second video
In fact just search for "Jeep fail" and browse, you'll find tons of cases where a Jeep rolls where no other vehicle would have a problem

That's why most people who are serious about off roading buy a Jeep.
