Dai means "big"

So Daisuki is kinda like saying "I really like you."

The word that means "I love you" is Aisheteru. It is less used and usually means a deep deep form of love. Some people never say it once in a serious situation in their whole life.

Also, I'm not an expert in Japanese. I am just repeating what I have heard.
