They were the most exiting and evolutionary band of musicians to come out of this country since Ian carrs neucleus, so why aren't they dominating and influencing the British jazz scene now instead of the boring stagnent third rate be bop tribute acts that fill the pages of jazz in London month in month out they must come back or were doomed to listen to the rythem changes and lee Morgan Coltrane Parker sycophants chewing the carcas of 50's Americana down to the bone
The real truth behind what happened to the original Jazz Warriors is actually completely different to what has been 'stated' here...there was absolutely NO stealing of the Band's name, NO 'conspiracy' to prevent young talent from joining, there was a definite development and growth of the Band causing it to go from strength to strength...it's demise arose from internal friction between certain members and the new management...nothing else...FACT.
Looks like my inability to command the Queen"s English as good as you is causing you some concern. Now that's a real shame cause it mek you sound basic, shallow, bitter and twisted. "his Lego Empire building activities" as you put is not going to crumble any time soon. Man/woman whatever you iz, me did tink seh you was smarter dan dat. Don't talk 2 me again..me done wid you....lol.. Always2foolfool
Neither Afropean or Afropine! Sounds like you have lost the plot in your haste to show us all how much you can defend as you call him Prof in his Lego Empire building activities! You are revealing either a multiple personality disorder! or that an ESOL course to improve your Grammar needs wouldn't go amiss! Failing that a spellchecker! From now on if you could try to keep to the facts it might help anyone reading these to understand the allegations contained within Afro pineapples utterances!
Steady-on now "Always2true" you are walking on thin ice here. This is not Prof. Pine, I repeat this is not Prof. Pine, what with running his music Label, building his empire, releasing records, I don't think he have time for this kind of tosh, do you? Plus he is to much of a gentleman to get involve in such nonsense. No sah! ah me an you dis,. you gets me? Are you an AFROPEAN by any chance? Go on admit it. You must be!!
Name calling the preserve of someone who can not adequately back up their argument!
Fact- your "AFROPEANS" will have to work seriously hard to get anywhere near the cudos that the original Warriors had attained! The next version without Pine took a different direction followed by The next progression the very successful Warriors created by as you put it in that disrespectful tone "Gary Crosby and his woman" it remains to be seen what YOUR Afropeans does?
you really do. Afropean a silly name eh! What part of the world do you originate from. Always2true you are a damn ass a donkey. Tomorrows Warriors is not a spin off of the original Warriors. hell no. It is the creation of Gary Crosby and his woman. And one more thing just in case that you doh kno. Gary Crosby in not a founder member of the Warriors. The Jazz Warrions is the creation of Professior Courtney Pine and without him at the helm it sank
sounds ludicrous but that's what those band members thought of C.P at the time fortunately Pine's concept for the band is here again, the name was registered to insure Pine could not use it! they are on a nationwide tour will you support them by going to the concerts? i will
No just an interested concert goer who was able to follow the black Jazz music scene at the time.. Paulbogle1 got it right in his response! Pine and his management group Abibi left the Warriors as Pine went on to build his solo career, The other original musicians who with Pine started the Warriors continued doing shows and recordings, This foolishness about some musicians stealing the name sounds like a very selfish and opportunistic way to start Pine's new project by dissing its predecessor!
it would be great to get CP to respond to this, as i know that members of the warriors voted to take the band away from him and the management that not only produced the 1st album, won many awards and toured - the move to take the band away was not as fruitful, paulbogle 1 is not accurate what recordings did they do after leaving abibi? i also remember seeing the band live and can't wait to see them in stratford @ theatre royal on the 8th of february will you be there?
sounds like Always2true was a member of the warriors - is it true that a chosen few stole the name the Jazz Warriors and registered it as a company, do you know who these musicians are? Tomorrows Warriors is a great project i would like to see more initiatives that give uk jazz musicians a chance to express themselves, keep up the good work CP we got your back!
I think everyone who was around at that time knows about the incompetence of the Damagement sic management company that the warriors parted company with at the time!Courtney then left the Warriors with the company. The other original Warriors remained and continued the Warriors name which is hardly a case of stealing the name!
Oops! Foot in mouth time! A minefield me thinks! C.P should think before rewriting the Warriors history to suit the promotional marketing of his new company.even if he does have a silly name attached AFROPEANS!Isn't there already a very successful Warriors spin off "Tomoorows Warriors"! You know the one that has seen past members like Soweto Kinch,Denys Baptiste, Tony Kofi,Julie Dexter,Nathaniel Facey go on to contribute to the U.K Jazz scene so my question! Is there a need for yet another one?
What a load of tosh from Sir Pine when he states that they stopped bringing young people in the band and become an Incognito type band! totally untrue! What he seems to have conveniently left out of his testimony is that at the time they disbanded up and coming young musicians such as Jason Yarde, Robert Mitchell,Alex Wilson, Byron Whallen, Dennis Rollins, Larry Bartlett, Robert Fordjour,Harry Brown to name a few were in the band!
what rubbish- Courtney gave many musicians the outlet that wouldn't have been there to show their talents?! jazz aint mainstream but courtney has given more big breakes then anyone in British Jazz- and i will admit that i wouldnt know coltrane/davis/chet baker and that if it wern't for courtney bringing me into jazz... but maybe thats what some people want- Jazz Police!
maybe you should speak to them musicians instead of speaking on their behalf you mug?! nuff people show Courtney love( except the '''jazz police'' - is that you mate?) jazz is not mainstream but CP has done more for British Jazz the anyone else- fact. jealousy and bitterness are horrible qualities.
Courtney is an inovator, originator, creator of modern jazz fusion I love his work, he can play straight ahead or put a modern fusion lick to it. Thats how jazz should be played fuck the jazz snobs, keep up the great work Courtney!
We have our share of crap musicians but have some bloody good ones aswell, all of whom need our support to appreciate what they do.That's what Courtney Pine is about, UK Jazz getting the respect it deserves.
These guys are top players.I don't agree that there's not much quality jazz in the UK though. Depends on what level you mean,in terms of innovation: Pine, Soweto Kinch, Denys Baptiste, Guy Barker, Alex Wilson, Andy Sheppard to name a few. In terms of solid players who play quality jazz without pretense, look no further than Alan Barnes,David Newton,Don Weller etc. We're light years behind the USA but that's another issue.

Omg! Pine says "The original Jazz Warriors Disbanded because a bunch of guys decided they would register the group name Jazz Warriors as a company"
The name was registered quite a few years before the band folded it comes under the term"How to pay tax"! Check google!
Why didn't Pine take the name his wife came up with when they left the Warriors?
Pine "They would Stop incorporating the young element in the band"..LOL Oh dear CP..Do you realise your speaking out loud! Think b4 yur speak!
