Honest... all these GE from Made IN Mexico they made Junk... no good last long only like short life!! please do not Buy any GE is not very good... my maytag last long about 13 year still running... as hunming..
look at the fan. If it's hitting anything, the solution is obvious. Look at the blades from the side and see if they're all at the same pitch. If not, adjust them so that they match-they are supposed to be angled, that's how they push air, but they need to match. Clean the fan blades, then try some oil on the motor shaft. If all else fails, the fan is probably needing replaced due to broken ball bearings (in most fans the motor is not meant to be opened/serviced)
Yeah my GE fridge shuts the fan down when you open the door too. Sounds like the fan impeller is hitting something or needs adjustment. Mine is very quiet.
I had a out of balance fan in my KitchenAid that caused varied noises. I didn't know what it was until I started balancing the blades with Duct Tape pieces. Not the right solution but got the noise to the point that it was tolerable. 5 cents of Duct Tape... imagine...

My GE refrigerator broke after 3 years. The seal systems overheated and the insultation melted. Do not buy GE refrigerators; they are a fire hazard.

You could replace the compressor, as I assume the sound is from that.
Otherwise soundproofing and ignoring the sound are choices. There are a few good sprays that will give decent sound resistance if done right.
It might last a long while before it gives in. Or maybe tomorrow? lol
