It can also bite like no other synth. In other words it can do it ALL. What you do is learn where its true power is. Ive owned no other synth for 20 years. I have completely mastered FM synthesis. Even Brian Eno hasnt taken a DX7 as far as I have. Thats why I sing its praises so ardently. I know what its truely capable of. An though the course of the year others will come to realize its true power. And when you consider that a DX7S can be had for under 200 on Ebay. It has no equal.
This is where I completely diagree with analog purists attitude. If you turn the A6 and DX7S on and play them straight. Im 100% certain everyone will say straight up the A6 is far the better synth. The MK2 DX7 doesnt show its diamonds you have to dig for them. The average to awful presets it cam loaded with dont give a hint of its TRUE POWER and sonic capabilities. And this idea about analog being fatter and softer is a myth. The DX7S can sound as fat warm and lush as the A6 or any analogue ever
@Mindstormsabrewin I have a demo already on my channel and a better one coming this weekend where you will hear the DX7S version of an 808 drum machine. And some other sounds im very proud of. I need a COMPLETE SYNTH because im a purist I use no SAMPLERS, SOFTWARE or DRUM MACHINES. MK2 DX7 is the most complete synth ive ever seen. It can do an entire drum kit then a fat bass, organic pads. Hit type sounds seq lines. guitar. Ive never heard anyother synth that can match its completeness.
I think of the "analog vs. digital" debate like this: A fluorescent light is really flashing at 60 hz., the AC cycle. It is too fast to see but it's there, Eye strain and headaches ensue. An incandescent bulb has the same 60 Hz going through it but the filament is glowing too hot to respond in flashes so it's a steady light. The color and tone of an old bulb is softer and easier on the eyes. It glows. Fluorescent is harsh, sterile, white pulses. Analog is "kinder" on the ears and eyes.
Good God all mighty, I don't know how I could have missed this majestic Alesis... I definitely gotta keep an eye out for this to show up randomly at my local Guitar Center (assuming anyone will be so eager to part with theirs). So jealous that you've got one of these-- I love my QS7.1 but I definitely gotta gets me one of these!
@turanmunter Says who? Try telling that to The JUPITER 8 lovers. Of course we have a natural bias towards the SYNTH/S we love. But I am not just sounding off here. I am going to prove a MK2 DX7 has more sonic power and versaitility. Than an A6, Z1, JP8 well the whole caboodle actually. I have owned them all from a JP8 to a Juno 60, MK2 DX7, D50, Z1, JP8000,MOTIF. And I sold them all except the MK2 DX7 because it leaves them all in the dust. And my job now is to show this over the coming months.
@fender1000100 --wow --amazing comment......i watched some mk2 dx7 demos and the first impression was DIGITAL...... boring, dull, and digital..... it sounds ok, but most synths do..... it certainly isnt even close to andromeda(which i own), jupiter 8, cs 80 etc......im sure you love your dx7, but to say it blows these classic analog monsters away is pure and simple NONSENSE......
@Shaft9000 It does indeed. And My series of demos will show this over the coming months. Dont even try to tell mell the A6 can produce better Bass than a MK2 DX7 for starters. Because it simply Cannot. It cannot produce the crystal clarity either. And dont even get me started on DRUM SOUNDS. Yes read right. The MK2 will blow the A6 away. Any synth even a JP8 for drum sounds coming PURELY from its FM engine no sample playback cheating rubbish. Just you wait and see what I have coming.
Wait... a DX7 mk2 sounds juicier and more alive than an A6? Please put down the crack pipe. And using capital letters doesn't make what you say true just because you reeeeally want it to be true, LOL..
@raymangold22 LIMITED IN SONIC QUALITY????? Im taking about the DX7 MK2 vastly SUPERIOR to the MK1 version. Yamaha added the POLY UNISON MODE. And analogues only advantage before that was the Jupiter 8s and Junos onboard chorus and detune features.
I disagree, the DX7 """MK2""" is the most versatile PURE SYNTH no samples people)
It will math a moog for bass, a jupiter for strings a modular for effects and its bells and pads are second to none. My track TIME TRAVELLER will show this in february.
@M3ssiah My DX7 MK2 lacks NOTHING. It will beat this bland overrated SYNTH and any analogue/digital/virtual synth in any department. BASS, STRINGS, EFFECTS, PADS. BELLS. The lot. The A6 has no guts. If I put a demo side by side all would see that. FM synthesis lacks nothing since it got the Poly unison mode that was missing on the MK1 DX7 it no only matches analogue, it blows it out of the water.
@fender1000100 FM synthesis is quite vastly different from analog or general digital. The DX7 has a *distinct* sound, most notably for its bell sounds (it always tends to have a "metallic" sound). So it is limited in sonic quality. For example, the DX7 can't sound like a JUNO-60, or vice versa.
It's just the way they are built. Every synth is different. There never will be a "single synth" solution, just too many sound possibilities.
@fender1000100 Are you able to do such a demo? I'd like to hear a side by side comparison. I think both are magnificent machines for different reasons.
been screwing around with stereo delay trick and cv ext on this beast--crazy, the enormous sounds that eminate from this thing--was going to sell this awhile back--no fucking way now......
@GEORGEMARAUDER Please don't start the Analog v Virtual argument as it's fucking boring. Use whatever you prefer and who cares what anyone else thinks.
@GEORGEMARAUDER You can recreate it, but it will never sound the same, this is analog. There is a certain life to the sound that digital lacks, but virtual analogs are good in other ways, and better than softsynths so it's still a good choice. But best of all is analog, the warmth, the fattnes, the punch, no VA or softsynth are there yet. It's just magic, hard to touch, you can replicate a patch and just listen over and over and think "hmm, something is missing" and tweaking will never help.
im thinking of selling mine---i just dont know how to get these huge sounds out of it, or i would most certainly keep it--id rather not sell as its in perfect condition and i dream of getting jupiter-obx-moog prophet and cs80 monster sounds out of it
@dondorward2010 be patient! do not make the big mistake of selling it! I was in the same situation: I was about to sell it several times but I was wise enough not to do it; today - for example - I easily managed to duplicate the main "percussive" CS80 sound from Vangelis' "I hear you now" and a few other Jupiter 8 patches; A6 has it's own distinctive sound but it's also capable of emulating famous vintage mono/poly synths...
@dondorward2010 it's hard to tell you what to do in a few words but first of all switch off the effects (use an external effects unit if you have one) and then start tweaking the knobs; if you hadn't read the manual yet you could start doing it...have fun!
Wanted one of these soo f--ing bad in the late 90s still want one sooo f--ing bad for that matter. The studio and my life won't be complete until there's one in there ;-)
Extreme customizable, no limits, have the pitch, have the fat, the kick. Digital precision for control a pure analog engine. Even the overpriced Jupiter 8 is not customizable like the A6.The Andromeda is Unique.
@Keysforge It's true that the JP-8 is not as complex as the A6, but the A6 can't quite go where the JP-8 can go either. The A6 filters are modeled on Moog and Oberheim, and other American sounds like ARP and SCI can also be achieved because all of those companies copied from one another. By the time the JP-8 was released the glory days of American synths were over, the Japanese synths are something else altogether and to my ears the JP-8 is quite different. You just have to get both.
@theHackerOfMayhem I dont think thet "Q" is better, i used to have microq, rack version of Q. Sounds of microq seemed to me more simple then sounds of A6.
@saleksei1 micro Q is lot of voice version with limited sound banks and features.I have the Q rack edition and its amazing.A6 maybe is more powerfull than waldorf Q but Waldorf wAve is a beast.Q has a lot of melodic sounds which with soome settings and routings the result is awesome.I dont ork on A6,i cant have opinion in fact- i like Alesis productions. <3 : )
