Now all we need to do is build a replica of a Hudson;
or a Big Boy;
OR BOTH! Yeah, that would be flippin' AWESOME!
This steel beauty is more than proof that people still care about steam locomotives (I sure as heck do).
By the way; Kloke Locomotive Works is building another 4-4-0. Check it out at there website (youtube won't let me post links so you'll have to find it on your own; sorry).
This is a very impressive looking engine! The typical look of an American 4-4-0, very decorative and very well presented as new. Thanks for sharing this fine detail.
The World's newest steam locomotives are also the most beautiful steam locomotives. Both the Tornado and the Leviathan were made by hand, and to the exact specifications of the original Peppercorn, and Central Pacific shop construction. The gracefulness, delicacy, and beauty of this engine and the Tornado is very amazing. It's just wonderful to see new steam locomotives being built, and steam locomotives returning.
I agree about building new steam locos, but Leviathan is a Schenectady design. The Central Pacific started building its own engines some time after she entered service.
The original works drawings were not available, so she and Jupiter, her 1969 sister replica, were built using plans exhaustively researched from photographs and drawings of other Schenectady engines. Fabulous work! These locos were apparently dark blue and crimson when new, but so far that hasn't been confirmed for Leviathan.

Anyone got any ideas on what she is going to be doing now that TF2009 is over?
pieman97405 2 years ago
I hope she moves to Promontory point with to live with her older sister Jupiter #60, and Cousin UP #119, but I don't know if that will happen.

I read somewhere she was going to "rome" the country and run on tourist railroads.

Did they take her out on the main for a drive, or did they just turn her on the table all day?

As far as I know she stayed right there on the Trainfest grounds, but I was only there for the first day.

The one thing different about her from her old replica sister, is that Jupiter is wood firing, and Leviathan seems to be an oil firing.

She is oil firing.
