  • graciasssssssss

  • with all the respect...did you know that ''kaki'' in hebrew means ''poop'' ? its somehow funny.

    but great guitar playing!!!

    :)

  • @gogoroman its pretty universal. kaka is poop in many languages.

  • I get that it serves a purpose, but those nails are disgusting.

  • @slaQ83 your face is gay

  • @gizmo2209 your gay is face

  • @slaQ83 i want to have your children, just because of that.

  • I have loved Kaki King as a performer and a muso who plays from the heart. Her music is inspirational, one off and unique.I wish I had half as much talent as she has in her little toe. Dreams come true listening to Kaki!

  • Listening to this, seeing Tosin Abasi and Andy McKee on the righthand related videos tells me I'm on the right musical path of my life. I wish this sound would just follow me everywhere I go.

  • She actually states in this video that the tuning is D-A-B-F#-A-C# not D-A-D-G-B-A as is stated in the description

  • @scralpal Great, I find this comment after 20 minutes of utter confusion hahahaha! Well at least it was practice for setting it up by ear.

  • Okay, she's redeemed here... this isn't anything like Gobi.

  • Mistakes are used to make people grow and come up with new ideas. people who are not artistic will NOT know that concept.

  • Beautiful...despite the "mistakes"

  • stupid cunt cant play without mistakes for shit

  • the way she uses dissonant chords is amazing

  • Please correct the description of the video, the tunning is DABF#AC#

  • she makes some really emotional songs. love em.

  • Beautiful...

  • I love "mistakes". It's much more human that way :)

  • Nails only on one hand...

  • Who's complaining about her mistakes? I'd like to see you mess up and make it still sound beautiful at the same time lol. Her mistakes inspire me.... She's really awesome though, glad I found her.

  • She does seem nervous here though. D:

  • fantastic finger picking. little jittery though, lol, your fingers are shakin like my first audition. sure we've all been there

  • OMFG! I was listening to this and I thought to myself "this is probably the most beautiful song I've heard on the guitar, she has a beautiful style that I hope to have, I really want to learn this song" I noticed that the song ended and I was going to go try and find the tabs and then she said that she was going to teach you ON THE VIDEO! HAHA!

  • yeah there some mess ups and ther pretty obvious. but the rest of the song is beautiful for what it is. i guess since tosin is in the suggestions yall cant accept anything lower lol

i enjoy this song its soothing.

  • @TheHardcoreArtist Dude i've yet to see Tosin properly impress me. The standard of "virtuosos" seems to be getting scarily low.

  • @andrewkeen24 Tosin, not a virtuoso? A virtuoso is defined by its ability to play technically an instrument, just go look at the definition. So, you individual tastes aren't the point, you must not have looked to everything the guy do. 1rst, the guy has more of its reputation for metal shredding than for acoustic stuff, but even in thoses conditions he still play impressively without distorsion sometimes.

  • @blobliblo35 By your definition my friend is a complete guitar virtuoso. I should let him know.

  • @andrewkeen24 I don't know your friends, however, just show me a vid you think accuratey shows how your michael hedges is a virtuoso, and then we'll compare (for me not to take like its easiest song for a comparaison which would be unfair, even virtuosos sometimes play easy things)

BTW, you don't need to be well known to be a virtuoso. And yes, I still stand with my definition, go look it up if you don't believe me.

  • @blobliblo35 You're a blundering fool. By your definition Michael Hedges is not a virtuoso, but you want me to show you that he is? He doesnt really play specifically technically. Whoopdee doo. And all I was saying is that your definition seems specifically stupid as the word virtuoso is traditionally applied to someone exceptionally good at an instrument in general. Playing technically just sounds like a retarded definition. I can even play something technical if I practice it.

  • @andrewkeen24 Well, no, because I never pretended your guy is a virtuoso (don't know him enough to judge), i just wanted to see why you consider he does. but forget it since we don't even have the same definition of a virtuoso. Why do I think being a virtuoso is mostly about technique? First of all, the most important part (not the only one through) of being good at its instrument is to convey the right thing playing, i think you'll agree....

  • @andrewkeen24 ...The thing is, the guitarists seen as the best are often the one approved the most by the music lovers in the genre, since no one can objectively mesure the "ability to play the right thing", since it's just suggestive, people don't all like the same music. So, if that is the definition of a virtuoso, there isn't anything that could give any convincingness to your opinion, since it's just your tastes and you're wasting your time.

  • @andrewkeen24 second point, why do people always think of players like steve vai (for example) when asked about what a virtuoso is, and nobody would even talk about umm kurt cobain? Maybe you don't care about the guy, but he still is highly regarded as a musician. For a less extreme example, while hendrix is considered by many to be best best there ever was, people still will mention him less than vai when asked for a virtuoso name.

  • @andrewkeen24 To finish, this doesn't affect the definition of a virtuoso, but being good technically as much as the top level technical guitarists actually require a ton of determination, to pratice the many hours per day to reach and to maintain their level. So no, it isn't something that is to the reach of the averagely motivated mind.

(BTW I don't even value virtuosity that much personally, just a bit. and sorry for the LOOOOOOOOOONG reply, i guess i need to abreviate myself lol)

  • Beautiful Kaki.

  • they are wrong about the tuning. which pisses me off

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • Kaki king kinda looks like Kaka the football player, just bit more feminine

  • okay, if you were good at guitar like she is you wouldnt be saying that. id like to see you try..

  • shit anyone can tune a guitar to a chord and pluck open strings. real or fake those are some stupid ass nails.

  • @wickedwizardofspeed Not anyone can make it sound beautiful.

  • beautiful guitarr

  • how does her guitar sound so crisp..?

    its beautiful..<3

  • I'm a tree hugger and I love this girl!! I've played guitar since I was 13 and I tour with local bands as a rhythm guitarist and vocalist and I could hope to have the creativity she carries in her music. I'm 19 and I promise that being a "stoner hippie" has nothing to do with recognizing an amazing musician.

  • I've seen guitarists with more technical proficiency, but few of them have her musical imagination and originality. I like the fact that she constantly experiments with open tunings.

  • @bluegrasssingingman Oh. nevermind. and no, thats just my username. and no.

  • sloppy as fuck

  • @FrankRonnie1981 go away, nobody needs your comments here

  • @FrankRonnie1981 Like to see you do better...

  • Very good. She is the greatest guitar player of all time!

  • @TheBlues088 I've just been listening to Michael Hedges. I mean absolutely no disrespect but in comparison this basically hurts my ears. I'm sure she has potential but she has a long way to go.

  • this girl makes me wanna play guitar...

  • what's this guitar tuned to?

  • Wish she would come to central Florida and do a gig

  • I wish that non-musicians would realize that musicians make mistakes. I have seen Andy McKee, Matt Thomas, and Stephen Bennett, guitarists on a caliber well above hers (no offense to her, I'm trying to prove a point) mess up. It's because we are people too. The people previously mentioned are all considered virtuosos of their craft, but they make mistakes, now they don't do it often, as in 20+ times in a gig, but they have a tendency to make a few mistakes in just about every song. Thanks.

  • @Hylianmetroid

    Dead on!

I just wish Non-Musicians could understand our position, and that we're not perfect/invinceable..etc.

Were only human, and we do the best we can. Talent or not.

  • @Hylianmetroid Good point, but I will say that regardless of what guitarists may be superior to her technically, no guitarist of her style has touched me in the way that she has.

  • @IAMME000 Dude her music sounds like shit. This song is so bad it's ridiculous.

  • @Hylianmetroid She made a mistake with her garment too...too many mistakes at the same time:/. Keep trying, girl...

  • @Hylianmetroid Right? Actually if you put a camera on any musician it's like a... fuck up ray gun. You will fail, and then after you fail you'll fail again because that last fail was unacceptable and you want to punch a baby gibbon. You really have to sneak up on a musician in solitude to get their best out of them, though when they spy you creeping it's the cops, and they will rape your children.

  • very soothing:)

  • Lawlz at 1:23 jajajajajajajajajajaja

  • Man... those nails are gross!

  • i absolutely love this song but i think its bullshit how i would have to pay to watch the rest of this video (of her guitar lesson)...she's not making the money off of it

  • performers are not machines, you can't always expect perfection. her records are amazing. just admire her musical expression for what it is. pure, raw, human.

  • @blastbeatdown

Yes, i agree--There is no authenticity in playing like a robot. Wes Montgomery & Joe Pass made mistakes yet considered virtuosos.

Joe Pass used to say "It's not the mistake..it's what you do afterwards that makes up for it" .

I respect Kaki King for pushing the envelope and not staying in the safe pentatonic range of Eric Clapton and many others, who are considered "Gods".

    She's an extremely imaginative artist.

  • TinyTrip

  • love that crown inlay

    nice tune

  • I like that she has a crown inlay on her acoustic :P

  • 4 guys can F&CK OFF !

  • i love it

  • Nothing like totally screwing up playing your own song...pretty sloppy

  • @Heavywood she is definitely struggling here to get a lot of the notes out... she looks super nervous

  • @Heavywood She's probably nervous, give her a break

  • @Heavywood I look forward too see your chops on youtube

  • belly buldge!.. its hot though

  • where you can you get these fake nails?

  • So gooooooooooooooood !

  • Could JamPlay correct the listed tuning?

It's clear from watching her open strings that the intervals between strings 6-->5-->4 are 3.5 & 1 tone respectively (so 'DAD' isn't correct).

Could you list the correct tuning (whether DABF#AC# for this particular playing or the tone higher EBC#G#BD#)?

I appreciate she states the tuning after her song, but it'd be handy for navigating her vids :)

Also more helpful than users slagging vibrato or demanding acknowledgement of their own greatness...

  • @iceeagles83 um im not sure of wat u said since im still bleh about music theory, but the recorded version of the song is E b c# g# b d# and when she plays it live at concerts its D a b f# a and c#, as said in the video. its prob just a typo in the info.

  • favorite kaki song ever!

  • Kaki is just the best. So good.

  • i love listening to this song when i take a late night drive......

  • yeaa couple of hiccups in there but hey nobody's perfect shes an amazing and talented guitarist Jesus Christ ! shes amazing

  • Ugh ovations are sooo ugly...

  • @512Airsoft I know, right! I don't really like the sound either. I would love to see Kaki play a nice Andrew White or some other really nice guitar.

  • @512Airsoft ur ugly

  • @512Airsoft not only that but their tone just sucks. I mean some people may like the tone of these guitars, but I don't. This is no offense to Kaki at all, her music is absolutely stunning. But I often wonder how her stuff would sound on an all solid tonewood $4K acoustic. I bet it would blow our minds. I' m suprised that she doesn't care, or maybe she's endorsed by Ovation and doesn't have a choice. Hmm...

  • @512Airsoft great sound though, and i will take sound over looks any day.

  • she stuffs up 1:24, she still pretty dammn good tho

  • what type of guitar is she using?

  • @Craven2219

it's her signature Adamas Ovation Model 1581-KK

... you can recognize it from the black finish and little crown design on the 12th fret ;)

  • A lil too much reverb on the track but amazing song none-the-less

  • might be the best guitar playing and sound ..look up feel in the dictionary and this vid is there five million stars!

  • Thanks guys! This was great, I mean although I think it might be impossible for even Kaki King to teach ME how to play a Kaki King song! LOL She truly is a master of her craft.

Also the graphics were just beautiful!

  • Loved it. But can she sing too?

  • @joshuadsims Yes she can...her new album Junior is really good.

"Falling Day" is a great tune from her new album.

  • She's good but she does that really annoying vibrato that doesn't actually do anything

  • youre really stupid. obviously if its "really annoying" it does do something. you can hear it enough to annoy you. i doubt you know what your talking about anyway

and everyone commenting about her nails. you are all fucking stupid. do any of you know how hard it is to finger pick effectively w/o nails?

  • @hxcmthrfcka This being a video website I

can see that it does nothing, not hear it,

and that's my point it's poor and useless

    technique.

    But you're right, I don't know what I'm talking

about, even though I'm probably more

    technically proficient than Kaki and

    definately more than you.

  • your really trying to tell me that vibrato is a pointless technique?? i dont even know how to respond to that. the type of vibrato that she was using is effective and has purpose and relevance.

and what makes you assume that you are more "technically proficient" than i am? have you studied at a music institute?

  • @hxcmthrfcka You're not reading. Vibrato

isn't pointless but when you do it incorrectly

like Kaki is it doesn't add anything. As hard

as I listen it does nothing to the note. You're

not meant to just shake your hand and hope

for the best, you rapidly bend the string using

    your wrist as a pivot.

And as for the technical thing, watch my video/

  • lol you are insane... your obviously not listening hard enough. i can hear it distinctly. there are more than the one type of vibrato you stated. if you dont even realize that, that is a vibrato technique than you do no have the authority to tell me that you are more technically skilled then i. and definately not her.

wow.. i can do that too... it was a bit sloppy though. but nice none the less

  • sorry but I think this lady is incredibly beautiful! her music is both fascinating. and interesting. She has a new fan.

    Carry on.

  • Comment removed

  • Just a note for you guys commenting on the nails, they are fake "glue on" nails, not real.

  • Those nails make me sick

  • SICK!

  • She is good but those nails look nasty dude

  • she would look better with a long hair =/

  • how does she play with those nails????

  • they're on here strumming hand so it actually makes it easier... they act as picks. They're not her real nails, they're glue-ons specifically to play the guitar.

  • it is in the More Info... it says "Kaki King teaches her song "Night After Sidewalk" to the JamPlay community in the DADGBA tuning."

  • @nyxdarkness1 and you can read it without actually clicking the link 0.o

  • @thatnewguy23 yeah...(u see what im talkin about, right? this was actually supposed to be a reply to U2forNow)

  • @nyxdarkness1 looks like youtube has a few bugs to work out. but just about any website would have a couple.

  • @nyxdarkness1 but she says the tuning is DABF#AC# in the video. So now is who's right?Jamplay or Kaki?

Then again since she says that the tuning has changed DADGBA could be the original tuning.

  • no, the original tuning is a step higher: EBC#G#BD#. she's playing it a step lower to make it easier on the G string.

  • kaki you and your music are so interesting

  • whoa your nails..

  • @person32137 they must be magic. . .

  • WOW at uR FINGER NAILS :O

  • I think if you put the tuning in the title or 'more info', you will get a lot more people looking at this. Lot's of people search DADGAD.
