they should add this version (and early ver. of can you feel the love tonight) (in color and after computer-treatment) to blue-ray disc :(((( who want to see this in color too? its a pity, but.... no chance :(
@missbs1 She does and doesn't. She saw what Simba saw in the Hakuna Matata way of life and thought that it would be awesome as well. However, she still remembers her loyalty to the pride so she doesn't hold onto it for too long. Also the part where she mentions 'last-night' ties in to the original 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight' scene where the enter a cave towards the end.
This scene could still have been included. I actually think it would've been better than the 'Who's the Monkey' scene. This one really sums the characters up nicely, plus I like the idea that Nala also sees the Hakuna Matata way of life.
It's sad, but the developers must have had their reasons
If this scene had been in the film, we would've never had the Rafiki meeting Simba or Mufasa's ghost and those are two of the most amazing films in the movie, so I'm glad this was cut.
While I've always loved the Can You Feel the Love Tonight scene, I think they could've have put a little bit of this in the movie too. Especially the tender moments between Simba and Nala, that really gave us more about their loyalty and love for each other. But I mostly like how Simba went back to see them before he left, it also bugged me in the movie how he just takes off without telling Nala, Timone, or Pumbaa. Oh well, The Lion King is still one of my all time favorite movies!!!
To be honest with you, I like this version better. Simba shows his love for Nala, Pumba shows true friendship and dedication and timon, not sure what to think about that.
Lion King:3D in theaters, Simba and Nala have a special bond that no one has and after hearing Simba say that he really
Cares for Nala it made me
Cry. They never leave each
Other sides for anything, now seeing them happy and ruling together made me want to jump for joy. Love the part wen timon says "lets ALL GO CRAZY" and "My pal, my buddy. Daddy". Hes one crazy meerkat and never cross him. Awesome job
Well put Pumbaa! What a friend. That speech is the reason why I wish this was the scene after the Mufasa experience. That and Timon's hilarious line, "LET'S ALL GO CRAZY!" Not to mention the face he has when he says it.
Shame on him for not wanting to help. But I can't stay mad at a guy with a hilarious actor like Nathan Lane.
Actually, im glad they`re decided to cut it out. The final version was epic, you can say that really hard choice has been done - and Simba has no regrets for it. Its his kingdom, he`s a king, and he`s laugh in a face of danger!
I don't like the direction they were going for here in terms of Simba and Nala's character, but the bits with Timone and Pumba were pretty funny and actually kinda sweet.
i must say, i do prefer the alternative that they chose to go with in the end. this would have really confused me as a child. besides, the bit with mufasa in the sky was so touching. one of the best parts of the movie
@RoxStar09 to answer your question this scene was never finished so nala's voice was likely provided by head of story brenda chapman and simba's voice was done by co director rob minkoff at least i think so because that does'ent sound like matthew broaderick to me
ok so first nala is like don't be a coward!! be the king u were meant to be!! now she's like r u sure?? we could stay here. i don't want to lose u...sure did change her tune!! i'm glad this didn't make it!!
Wait...........so Nala fought to get him to go back and then when he decides to she's like "I don't get you....." So like a woman. XD And that's coming FROM one.
I love Timon's raged side & Pumba's defense, I also like that they kind of opened up with Nala's love for Simba a bit more than the actual movie- but the actual movie is awesome too.
@christinage30 It felt awkward in my opinion. I don't know. I think this was not the moment you would expect him to be all verbally romantic and stuff, right before his return, in front of Timon and Pumbaa and in the middle of a conversation about being king and going back.
Final scene of the love song ("steamy love scene with the come-hither look" said the producer)
+ "Love'em and leave'em. Smooth kid, very smooth!"
+ "I thought last night meant something"
+ Final scene of the deleted love song with Nala kissing Simba, they entering a cave hidden by a waterfall, they stay there for a long time and then get out all lovey-dovey
I can see why it was eliminated, even though it was very much liked by the directors They wanted something quick, witty and funny. The "Who's the monkey" scene is better scriped and is faster paced. Yes, this is romantic but it's not realistic within the movie. Nala strikes me as someone brave, determinated and also stubborn, she's a go-getter. If she was not able to convince him that time, she would try later again. This scene is out of character for her. It has some good lines, but that's it.
I like this scene, I really do. On the one hand, I wish they kept it because Simba and Nala don't have that many touching interactions together. But on the other hand, I don't think it would have fit all that well into the finalized movie. However, if they just had the scene where Simba went to see Nala sleeping and THEN left, that would have been perfectly alright in my opinion (even though Timon is so friggin' hilarious in this XD).
Still sad that this scene was removed. Though Nala Simba insisted to return to the kingdom, it shows here her compassion and love for him. "Of cource we did, i love you" Simba romantic, right?
this is so De javu! This scene is in a lion king book that I read! Very cool that now I have a storyboard mental picture to go along with it! Awesome stuff! thanks for sharing this!
I like this. It shows that Timon isn't really a jealous prick like 1/2 made him seem. He's just worried about his buddy. Timon and Pumbaa have been flanderized from the original Lion King. It used to be that Timon wasn't lying when he said he was the brains of the outfit. He was better at thinking on-his-feet and Pumbaa was more philosophical. Nowadays Timon's just an idiot megalomaniac, and Pumbaa's intelligence yoyos from intellectual who doesn't like to anger his friends to dumb as a rock!
Hmm. I don't think this would've fit the film's atmosphere/nature, or something. Plus this contradicted how passionately Nala wanted Simba to go back to save Pridelands. Plus, I don't think Simba would've just suddenly found the courage and strength to face his past without seeing his father and learning he (Mufasa) still loved him. Wasn't that even why they added the ghost? Because Simba NEEDED to see his father.
But anyway, this was funny. And Pumbaa's speach was great.
I thought the "I speak to my dead father's gost" came from hamlet, because, there the king's brother kills the king, tells the prince (hamlet) to leave and hamlet returns because of seeing his father's gost ...
@HappyHippy14 Yes it is. But I heard that they didn't already take that much from Hamlet. As in, that they didn't originally intend for Simba to see his father's ghost.
@SuperBabySimba, I like the allusions to "The Tragedie Of Hamlet, Prince Of Denmarke" by William Shakespeare in this film (ie. Mufasa's ghost appearing to Simba, and Simba going back to avenge his father's death), and the allusion to "The Tragedie Of Macbeth" by William Shakespeare (ie. Scar's reaction when he thinks he sees Mufasa).
Although this is sad/humourous and I quite like it, didn't Nala want Simba to go back in the first place? Or is there another alternate scene that happened after 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?'
I like what was going on with Simba and Nala but I think they made the right chose I think the scene they have does make his return more epic and you get the moment where you feel... what is Simba going to do next? What will he say when he returns? Where in this scene you know what he was thinking and it would have made it less mysterious.
Pumbaa's speech made me laugh out loud. I grew up around Colonial Williamsburg, and the fife and drum thing in the background made it all the more nostalgic. Hilarious!
Was this the 'personality' confused sam was looking for? lol Simba here does seems more noble and romantic though. I love the verbal "I love you" ^-^*
If they had left this in (or at least the pumbaa part at the end), it would've been a great tie-in to 1/2. But how could they have predicted they'd make a midquel in the distant future? Still, I like this scene.

lol timon is hilarious in this scene, if you think about it, lion king 1 1/2 would've been much harder to make if this scene stayed in the film

Very touching scene with Simba and Nala, but I can see why they changed it.

I like what was going on with Simba and Nala but I think they made the right chose I think the scene they have does make his return more epic and you get the moment where you feel... what is Simba going to do next? What will he say when he returns? Where in this scene you know what he was thinking and it would have made it less mysterious.

I like a lot of these alternate scenes better than what is in the actual movie. They are all so much darker and more intense.

it's different from the anime though~~~

Pumbaa's speech made me laugh out loud. I grew up around Colonial Williamsburg, and the fife and drum thing in the background made it all the more nostalgic. Hilarious!

Was this the 'personality' confused sam was looking for? lol Simba here does seems more noble and romantic though. I love the verbal "I love you" ^-^*
If they had left this in (or at least the pumbaa part at the end), it would've been a great tie-in to 1/2. But how could they have predicted they'd make a midquel in the distant future? Still, I like this scene.

@nehawe They are supposed to be in their late teens/early adults. Around 18-23.
At least was what the producer and directors said. And that was the age required for the actors to be to play those characters on the musical.

It does feel like that Simba wanted to protect his friends from danger.

Simba told Nala he loves her. Hooray!
When Nala and Pumbaa decides to go and Timon refuses to join but then finally decides to go, that's just what happened in The Lion King 1 1/2!

the music goes perfect for the mood.

In this one, it sounds like Nala wants Simba NOT to go back. I'm glad that they decided not to use this version too.

Such a cute little scene. I wish they'd have kept this...despite how OOC Simba and Nala are in this.
