The price, performance and current professional film adoption isn't even close to the RED Epic. $65K for the ARRI camera (<3K resolution) or $58K for for a complete RED Epic camera package (5K resolution). If that doesn't convince you, look at what all the major studios are using for new films in production...it ain't the ARRI.
@stevemdguy Epic red cost More, and with all the lenses needed with the epic, you end up paying about 70,000.. the arri Alexa cost 33,000 .. with the lenses.. about 60,000
i guess the only thing that would matter is, which look do you like better.. i prefer the Arri Alexa because its close to the 35 MM look wich is the majic oc Cinema.. Epic looks very clear and HD digital.. wich in movies I DONT LIKE THAT.. HD, and Digital kinda kills the movie majic experience.
@stevemdguy Red EPIC claims to be 5K but actually 4K after debayer. RED is more focused on Resolution and Alexa is more about Dynamic Range, and well, everything else. Costs are roughly the same. RED is suppose to be quite unreliable. Alexa has being used on a lot of acclaimed productions, perhaps more then RED. Check out their website.
That's not true, check the "List of films shot in digital" in wikipedia, and you will se that the majority of the films shot in 2011 and 2012 are in Arri Alexa, followed by Red Epic or other Red systems.
RED lovers, there is a lot more to a camera than resolution. Service and experience count for a lot in production situations, and of course, overall build quality.
I was talking about features! Of course, for a short, people are short in money and actors too. But if I am short in money, I will use Super 16mm. Digital cameras are good for commercials...Nothing elsee. Not even for docummentary cause of deterioration of the picture. Docummentary mens Documment and we must keep them as long as possible or they will become useless to shoot them. Anyway, I am 100% for film for so many reasons!!
@guydanieli I completely agree with you. Film still looks way better, and it always will, but it's nearly impossible to convince people other wise when you propose film for a shoot. Unless it's your money fronting the production.
So... could the presentation here be any worse? Arri should be embarrassed! My mother shoots and edits better... This was probably shot with a Canon 5d MkII...

Film, still better and you do not have to change your equipment every 3 to 4 years. This is BS

@Gambitheart
Its not bullshit my friend. it can get 16 in certain conditions
SeanOcomesForYou 1 year ago
@SeanOcomesForYou Why isn't Arri advertising 16 stops of latitude in "some" conditions?
SalilSundresh 11 months ago
@SalilSundresh
because Arri does not see it as acceptable image quality. However the information is there.
