This was posted back in 2008 and it still works. RapidShare looks different and you have to join them but it still does it's thing, I also found out when you right click on A03 RTM to (open a new tab) you can click on that a second or third time and it will take you to another file download program. I just had fun following along and have it work just like he said.

Thanks for taking the time to do this, it does help and saved me some money. I was going to buy the upgrade on an SD card, because I didn't know how to use the nb0 and nb0.crc files once I had them downloaded. Now I can just copy them to an SD card myself and update the x51v, I also didn't know that WinZip would open the RAR files, so that's good info too. Again, thanks.

x50 doesn't equal x50v. x50v is the second edition, the x50v has 128mb ROM (x51v has 256mb) over the 64mb ROM the x50 has. i suspect that's what bricking the devices (running out of ROM and leaving it half done in un-bootable state)

I updated my x50v from 2003SE to WM5.1 A02 with no problems. There is a SMALL chance you can get it working again using the WM5 ROM or the Dell ROM rollback, but it's slim.

You have 2 upgrade to WM5+ to use this method.

I have a Dell Axim V51x and lost my password, is there a way to hard reset it without calling tech support? I've taken the battery out hoping that the backup would run down and reset everything but after 3 days I put the main battery back in and it's still password locked. I've never lost my password before and I'm embarrased to say that I neglected to write it down.

MY MAN!!!!! Thank you soooo much for this tutorial. Side note, I didn't have an SD card so I went out and bought one, but it wasn't reading because it was a SDHC card. x51v WM5 will not read it. So I bought a regular SD card. After the update to WM6 it will read a SDHC card, AWESOME. Again thanks a million I am now using my x51v again.

I have both an X50v and X51v, and when updating an X50v to WM5 OR WM6 YOU MUST(!!!) first update the BOOTLOADER to WM5.

X50v ships with WM2003SE and the WM2003 bootloader. If you change to WM5/WM6 ROM without changing bootloader first, your device will be unbootable!!!

Step 1: Install WM5 (there is no wm6-specific one, it is used for both) BOOTLOADER

Step 2: Install WM5/WM6 rom (can use either one, and no need to go to WM5 before WM6).

Ps. It'd be great if you put this warning in the video info for X50v users, so they don't install the Maglite rom before changing bootloader (that would brick their device :/).

Oh one more important warning for X50v. When you update the bootloader (step 1 described in my first post), it says "please hard reset your device". DO NOT DO THIS. Do NOT reboot it after changing Bootloader. Just ignore the warning and do the Wireless + Power + Reset button maneuver again.

Ie:

Step 1: Press Wireless + Power and press Reset

Step 2: Install WM5 Bootloader

Step 3: DO NOT REBOOT, Press the sequence in step 1 again

Step 4: Install WM5/6.

Step 5: NOW HARD RESET and reboot.

Yes, I believe you should be able to use some SDHC cards. If not out of the box [heh] then after a registry hack or something. Check like axim site I think, google it.

I have a big problem with flashing WM5. I have Dell Axim X51v and 8GB SDHC memory card. I patched already WM5 for SDHC support. It recognizes card as a SD Card 3,6GB and I have no problems in system. But when I boot up SD Image Update there are no any images on the card! Of course memory is formatted as FAT32 and rom files are on. Please help!

Replied, but don't see it on here so here, in a nutshell's what i wrote:

1) same version as in this tutorial

2) 8GB SDHC (but gonna buy 16GB or 32GB when prices drop)

3) no patching required
