Where I live, you can be pretty sure that if you get mugged, it won't be at gunpoint. If your house gets burgled, the burglars wont have guns. So, if you call the cops, they don't usually need guns - or tasers.
Guns are legal, but you have to register properly for them. So, they're just far less common in general.

American security is good, but cities are just not as safe as Europe where there's a very high level of gun control. Latin America has less gun control and far higher gun crime. Imagine how many crimes would be prevented by a 1 cent on the dollar tax increase.

Don't forget it was the Nazi's who were taking away guns and freedoms. When we are trying help heal the world guns really aren't the issue. It's poeples' hearts, and if peoples' hearts are bad they will kill each other with a stick. Shall cut down trees to keep people from owning sticks? I am very much a U2 (bono) fan. If your definition of "getting involved" includes meeting with a US president, then what's wrong with getting involved? It's a globalized world we live in. The president of the US influences the entire world, including other countries. Bono is concerned with the condition of the world. It only makes sense, then, that he "gets involved" in US politics.
