Another suggestion is to dig the area around the cactus blocks deeper and place ladders (so that the water won't "fall") and then you can make an underground route for the drops so that you can collect the drops easily

If you find any monster spawners you could put those in and put a glass wall around all of it and instead of it being like round-ish, you could make a long line and a ladder at the bottom then a bit of lava just over the ladder but not too much so its going over the ladder and the monsters swim down and are pushed or climb ladder into lava

and have another current flowing around the ladders to a pick up area for you to get the items

you only use cacti when its plural... you have a 3 block high cactus, not cacti.

What i would do to edit this so that your drops have ABSOLUTELY NO chance of being destroyed is to dig down one block all around the cactus, and then add water to made a current flowing all the way down a hole you dug that comes out outside of the trap where you can go to collect them. Also, this way you have no risk of getting hurt by the cactus to get the drops, either. See my channel, I'll make a tutorial of the way I'm talking about.

THE BEST THING TO DO AND THE EASIEST IS TO DIG A 1X1 HOLE WITH 2 OF DEPTH. PUT 1 TNT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE, 1 WOODEN PLANK ABOVE THE TNT AND ONE PRESSURE PLATE ABOVE THE WOODEN PLANK. WALK ON IT AND WATCH THE FIREWORK !

Stop arguing. Just build a platform above it with ladder access and wait there. Mobs cant climb ladders so they will fall in. Just put 1 torch in the middle of the platform. Make it about 5x5. Hope this helps.

It is a "Trap" so mobs might not willingly walk into it, :<

try setting up some torches then wait till night, that will cause them to spawn there and walk into it more offten :D
