haha chillin out... i bet chillin out "long ago" was taken differently then, then now... thats to bad... cause chillin out to this song sounds groovy haha. peace...
I seen him at a small bar outside of Albany, NY..awesome show to put it lightly...nice guy, autographed my cd without second thoughts....makes that guitar talk the talk
i had this record back in the day (looking In), i completely wore it out. just downloaded it from itunes and i'm REALLY enjoying listening to it again. God bless you, Kim Simmons. RIP Lonesome Dave.
My dad had both "Lookin In" and "Hellbound Train" on vinyl. (Both of which are now mine :P) And I have distinct memories of laying on the floor and just chilling out to this song as a kid.
John Munoz, Bill Taimonglo, Rick Ellington, Danny Dunn, Dee & his sidekick--smoking thai stick, drinking wine, playing pinocle all day in the barracks in Japan & raising hell.
Great frigging song, just did a cover a week ago from learing this piece of work. What a great experience jamming to this ..GOD Bless GARY MOORE..from Thin Lizzy and a great blues man. Thank you SAVOY BROWN for DA MUSIC..
really cool song and video. no one could match (in my opinion) chris youlden's voice on his songs. did a song called, life's one act play. first song i heard by them in the late sixties. somewhat dark and disturbing but interesting at the time.
Got to see Savoy Brown and Deep Purple back in Phoenix, Az. 1974...still got the lp's HellBound Train and Street Corner Talkin thanks Davebritbrat for firing a few of my old braincells!!!!
@bleuhomme21, Small world gets smaller everyday. I was in London in 69`,my only visit, and wanted to be back in Calif. to see my concerts. I`m still into late 60`s & early 70`s rock but I have mellowed a wee bit. I now enjoy some of the ballads and soft shit I use to hate. PMSL, LMAO or just LOL
Man I think I ain`t come down from something I took in 69` cause savoy was a regular favorite @ the fillmore (west) & all I remember is their name and drivin home down 280 to san jose every sun. nite, morning. $3 all I ever paid to see great concerts with the exception of a few all day & nite outdoor events where it was a whole $5 to see a shit load of great bands.
thats just astounding I grew up with this music in London along with King crimson Traffic etc and wondered where Kim S dissapeared to, he obviously deserted the shit UK weather. I am now in New York where they dont seem to have heard of Savoy Brown I have the original Vinyl one of my favourites nice to know he has a west coast following.
You can always tell how old a clip is by the length of Kims hair ,very thin on top at the moment ,he hasnt played the V for quite some time now ,oh yeah its minor pentonic with a dash of Dorian mode.
estaban muchos que entraron y salieron chris youlden bob hall kim simmonds dave peverett rivers jobe roger earle y muchos mas que tocaron la verdad que son fabulosos gracias davebritbrat por este video y todos los que haz subido saludos desde Mexico city
@thekeifernet I guess it's just not me. Saw an outdoor, all day concert at Jeppesen Stadium Houston, TX back in the early seventies. I went mainly to see Savoy Brown...well I lie the party was good also ;-) Wishbone Ash came out early and stated that Savoy Brown would not play on the same stage as them, "So fuck them"...course I loves me some Wishbone Ash too...but I was bummed Savoy Brown didn't show.
@thekeifernet laurie wisefield as wishbone ash is all but unknown; but my guitarist larry glenn before he died loved those guys; and Camel; who did the version of "White Rider" we used to play in Atla in SF long ago' try to find THAT song ha ha ha !!
Fabulous stuff - shame Savoy Brown never really achieved the worldwide success they merited - I was a big fan back in the early 70s. Who're the other musicians playing along with Kim S.?
I agree, sheer guitar mastery at the hands of the mind that is Kim Simmons.
Savoy Brown is one of the best bands of the early 70's Kim always plays leaning in that same modal scale which I think is a form of some minor scale. Anyone know for sure?
wow - thanks for posting. Kim is a master and its so great he's still rockin! Loved this song/sound 30 years ago and still do (did I just say 30 years?).
What a nice compliment especially since he wasn't using a whammy bar for his vibrato. You're dead on regarding his wah work. Hat's off to being able to recognize the good when you hear it.
If good playing's of interest to you then dig through my playlists. (be daring and pick something you don't recognize)

Cool vid, I listened to this album and songs growing up and always loved this band.
Very similar in some respects ( twin guitar leads and sounds/influences ) as my other favorite and not as commercially successful band
WISHBONE ASH
Check out their vids and discography sometime if you have never heard of them!
