  • It's stories like these that make me call bullshit in Lennon supporting Reagan in his last years.

  • Google Jason Li, Vancouver riots- same pointless violence created by same unfulfilled and country hating elite Americans, only thing different is in the 60s they hid behind "causes" so they could get their rocks off beating cops, whereas now the cop would taze them till their brains were coming out their ears....

  • Hoffman probably worked for both sides. unwillingly, and paid the price.

  • Thumbs up if the interviewer's voice grates on your nerves, too!

  • Besides the fact that the interviewer is High as a Kite, lol - Does anybody know if there was something important said @ 4:11 - 4:14 ? Or was that just an audio issue...

  • Lo! He's not supposed to laugh inside city limits! In those days there were so many "educational" things about "how to know if your kid"s mind is being destroyed by drugs and he needs to be locked up". The most ominous symptom was "inappropriate laughter". The arrogance of those intellectually/emotionally/spiritually stunted fools thinking they could judge what it was appropriate for US to find amusing was indicative of so much . . . . .

  • I like how the interviewer lionises the Hell's Angels. They stand for hedonism and criminality, not any laudable moral traits. As for Rand, she was against materialism and believed socialistic governments would limit potential and inevitably lead to corruption and bankrupt countries. Though I guess she might believe the same about all governments, as her utopia was a sort of anarchistic meritocratic commune. In Atlas Shrugged at least she promulgated adultery, a trait she exemplified.

  • very nice to see that things have turned out such that Lennon is well known for his politics now, almost thirty years later. :) much love Abbie and John RIP

  • she sounds stoned.....lol

  • isn't what he's talkin about the basic plot for the US vs. John Lennon documentary?

  • Do you like Yippies or Hippies? i like YIppies. comment

  • I like the Yippes better but in the long run they were very bad for liberal politics as they made liberals in general hard to take seriously and moderate voters went to the side of law and order and voted republican. The 72 election for example.

  • @crymethemoon i prefer hippies

  • @crymethemoon I definetly prefer hippies to yippies

  • I disagree with Abbie saying Lennon was a socialist.. or that Lennon even said this himself. His views were far too complex to wrap up into any -ism. I like to remember Lennon as a libertarian. Freedom from war. Freedom from hatred and agression. Freedom to love and live how you wish. I can't see him being all for this global socialism that is now being foisted upon us.

  • john Lennon a libertarian? are you kidding? a working class hero? do you even know what a libertarian is? less government lower taxes Lennon was a big fan of government money being dolled out to poor people! that aint libertarian! free sex and drug use is the only thing libertarian about him!

  • @p0llenp0ny He was polar opposite of Randianisum! Jesus get a grip and read what he said and wrote. Ayn Rand is a cult of the republican party and it is Libertarian full force , mind you it's of pure selfishness and hatred for the poor. John was the opposite of that!

  • @Tullfree rand called it diadactic materialism then they get a couple of psychologists to back it up because they could make money off it rather than always argueing with psychiatrists [there was also the think tank the rand corporation]

  • Yes we did, those of us to took to the woods and left the rest of you in their rat race...

  • like going to states like Vermont? and living off your parents trust funds! and talking with a condescending to local folk of how ignorant they are? believe me i have a home in rural west Virginia and we got hippies who are just that!

  • @richyrollins

what a f*** generalization....."trust funds"...get a grip. This may be YOUR experience, but certainly not the norm !

  • @tommyfuller103

    FROM: linden1930

Is this politics 103 you are referring to ? The Hippies and off-shoot movements ended the f***king WAR.

  • i think he was talking about lack jemmon actually

  • i did not know this about Jack Lemon.

  • like many things, he was good for a time, and then became outdated.

  • I'm for anything & anybody who wants to bring the government to it's knees.

    Long live revolution!

  • mrchris611; we need another Abbie. Another great man who can steam forward to free us of the bullshit we have been subjected to for many years. Yes we need another Abbie, male or female. If this situation carries on, the bloodshed and capitalism, you may see me, a woman, trying to alter it if i can. God help me I don't want my 3 children growing up in war. Sarah. x keep smiling.

  • To be replaced by what? Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

  • @mrchris611 "Join The Conspiracy"

  • A working class hero is somthing to be.

  • Exactly, Lennon wasnt about revenge and violence. To hate Chapman would constitute an endorsement of everything he (Chapman) represents IMHO.

  • i really don't understand hoffman he was very interesting, the 60's period was very interesting. his death even was mysterious

  • lol this woman is so dumb. barely brings anything to the conversation.

  • Pinches activistas Mariguanos, fumando mota y deseando cambiar el mundo...estan pendejos.

  • the world belongs to the youth.

  • Anything can be flipped around-Limpball is a provacateur of the worst kind who people fall for. Abbie was very enjoyable in his day. Read Krassner's book about what the US gov't was into, discrediting dissenters, turning races against each other. Our San Diego house was being watched, prior to the Republican convention '72,phones bugged & we were just working on med.care issues. If our gov't does wrong and LIES and wages WAR then we NEED to protest! It's our DUTY !Too many die for LIES of War.

  • didn't this guy get his ass kicked by pete townshend at woodstock.

  • yah, he went up on stage after the Who finished Pinball wizard and grabbed Pete's mic. Pete whacked him over the head with his guitar.

  • Abie Hoffman seems like a completely different person here from his radical days. Here is so easy-going, mellow, and even humble. Here he seems like a nice, approachable person.

  • ....i wonder what Abbie would say about the internet.

  • what any activist would... use it!

  • hell yeah...

  • Hey, an idiot with good grammar and sentence structure. You sir are a rarity.

  • it was Abbie himself who stated that, "we gave them the best revolution money could buy". He and Rubin were pitchmen. Rubin was doing infomercials by the early 80's. Once you understand that both sides of the coin are controlled by the same powers, you'll begin to see through these "heroes" of the left!...p.s. I don't mind the debate , but the insults are childish.

  • "It was an all an act" is somewhat different than "the best revolution money could buy." A lose quote, some pithy remarks, and an exclamation point aren't that convincing. But I understand the point you'd make had you been given more room here. I think Hoffman held a little more faith for his cause than Rubin did, but considering them two sides of a massive dichotomous conspiracy to sell a few books and get some speaking engagements, is something else.

  • That money was C.I.A. money. The same group that just dumped upwards of $500 million[tax payers dollars} in Iran to stir up this guise of total unrest. The tell tale sign there were the protestors signs were all in English. Another show for the west orchestrated by the same group who has to control both sides of the ledger. Some of us fall for it, some of us see through it.

  • people in iran can speak, read, and write english quite well, i know, i've been there. educate yourself dumbass. they had signs in farsi and english. they knew iranians in america, canada, and europe were watching.

  • nobody said they didn't speak english, in fact the Iranians are among the best educated in the Islamic world. But, shithead......the show we saw was for the west and Israel to exploit. Catch up bunkie, you're way behind.

  • all i need to do is quote you "The tell tale sign there were the protestors signs were all in English" if you know and understand that Iranian's know the english language than that is definitely not a tell-tale sign.

  • lol So one of the main Yippies sells out.. Did Abbie? No.

  • this is gonna make a great primary source for my history day project. im doing Abbie Hoffman.

  • As talented as a songwriter, guitarist, singer, poet, artist John Lennon was, the one thing he was not was working class. He grew up in a upper middle class home and was always in school or playing music. If you want working class then look no further than his former partner Paul McCartney who grew up poor and lived in a household that had to all work together to make ends meet.

  • thats not true he was poor as a kid

both parents left him and he lived with his aunt he didnt have an easy child hood

  • Lennon's parents did leave him to his Aunt that is true but he grew up in an upper middle class home. His Aunti Mimi and Uncle George were better off than most...they were able to bring in a maid once a week...a luxury the McCartney's could not even have dreamed of. Lennon may have been troubled inside but he was never wanting for anything and lived very comfortably.

  • John lennon wanted his mom... Not true that "he never wanted for anything" for he lost the most important figure in his life twice!

  • Well...can't say that I disagree with that but the point was about wanting for material needs. The point being that he was not brought up in a lower class home...it was upper middle class. He did not want for the material things in life.

  • Aunt Mimi's home was not upper middle class at all. If anything, it was upper lower class. True, it was a little better off than McCartney's and etc, but Lennon essentially grew up in the poor parts of a city that many artists can't make claims to.

  • Lennon definately did not grow up in the poor parts of the city. Read The Beatles Anthology.

  • Comment removed

  • @pinkledpink I have been there in the 60s - most certainly not park ave -chap- All of Liverpool was obviously

lower working class. I am from USA so my thoughts are from that perspective

  • thanks for posting

  • tell the inteviewer to fuckin shut the fuck up and let him talk.

  • She's the worst interviewer I've ever seen on ANY show! She doesn't even finish a sentence half the time.
