People of latin descent do not see American expansion westward in the same way it is romanticized in school textbooks. Black people don't look at many of the Founding Fathers with awe because many of them were slave holders. If anything it teaches that the country has done bad things and that as an active participant and member of that country, you should seek to make it better. Jeremiah Wright got a lot of backlash for his statements, which are in the same sphere. He consistently used the word "WE" as in WE as a nation have done bad things and WE as a nation need to make those things better.

I really resent your insults but I am going to tell you one last thing. At the same school as Salazar, in my second year, my Black Department chair tried to get me fired for very similar reasons. Other Black Teachers and administrators came to my aid because they had observed me teaching and fought to keep an outstanding teacher, me! Salazar should have kept her mouth shut ( I didn't) for two years then she would have had tenure and could have taught anything she wanted. Not to smart!

This may shock you but in the 70's I did teach courses on Afro-American History. I recently encouraged my Latino students to do powerpoints on Mexican History,in class, anything they were interested in so I could learn as well as the other students. I have been on many textbook committees where ethnic topics are a must before we approved any texts. The main problems is that many minorities do so poorly on state tests that the curriculum has dropped all the extras and
