I like Clint Black. But this song sounds flat. It's one of those tricky things where you have to tune a certain way. You can still perform an old song like this in a lower key and get away with it, but you have to be careful because people expect to hear it in a certain way.
@DogFather0808 Totally disagree. Clint really kicks it on this song. The whole point of a remake is to put some personal touches to classic songs. If folks want to hear the same or similar song they will just listen to the historic version. Just my two cents.
Awesome job , Clint !!!! Good to know you're still out there ! Wish the G-dam lamestream stations were playing it . 1st time I 've heard your version . First time ever that I understood the lyrics ! THANKS !! I think most cover bands fake it too as most of them seem to mumble the lyrics in places .
Love Clint Black, but I gotta say, Allan Clarke & the Hollies really rocked on this song... although it's not as bad as Alan Jackson's remake of an already perfect song by Eddie Cochran. Jackson took out the famous guitar riff and the song fell flat.
Bienvenidos a mi amigo de Porteno! ¡Su inglés es mejor que mi español, cualquier día! ¡Sr. Clark del Hollies era, y es, una de las voces más exquisitas de todo el rock-and-roll!
...written by the Hollies' inimitable lead singer, Allan Clarke, and done great props by Clint Black here...the Hollies were vastly under-rated, under-promoted, and un-honored. My bro always thought T. Rex wrote this! Great song and good job by Clint.

You got one lyric wrong. The line you have written as "Whiskey Bob smilin' up high" is actually "Whiskey bottles piled up high".

Clint really nailed this remake. I can't think of any other contemporary country artist that could even touch this song.

Not bad! This is the first time I heard it, now I'm going to buy it. I often don't like remakes.

Im from Buenos Aires Argentina
Im a Hollies fan.And you wrote all right about this guys: underrated, undepromoted, and underhonored (sorry for my bad english language)
Clarke was one of the most superb voices in the pop rock all time
Elliot was fab too
However someone dont allowe that Hollies enter in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!
Hollies deserve it
