I bet not one of you idiots ( Tea-bagger enthusiasts) know about Mcdonnell's plan to sell all the government run liqour stores so that they can start placing them in black neighborhoods like they do in DC, I bet you have no prob w/ that!!!!
Typical politician. Says hes not going to raise taxes but hes going to raise funds somehow. He wants to raise taxes but wont come out & say it. How will extra spending be paid for unless you are taking more money out of peoples wallets? Who cares how Websters defines a tax? Whenever the government is removing money from the citizens wallets in the form of mandates, taxes, fees, etc, it is a TAX!

Deeds reminds me of John Kerry, who was for the Iraq War before he was against it. Deeds is for not raising taxes and for raising taxes. Now, I'm not an economist, but I don't exactly know how that works.

Matthew, that is because they do not call them taxes when they want to raise them. They call them fees. It's only when they promise a cut that they call them taxes, not that the cuts ever comes through, mind you. Remember, Obama told Stefanopoulos not to got by the dictionary definition of "Tax". Kind of reminiscent of Clinton's : Depends what the definition of "is" is.

It is cheaper to live in VA vs DC or Maryland but guess what. If the "educated" in NOVA continue to push leftist policies then VA will eventually be the same.
No thanks. Why don't they live in the liberal paradise they created???

The problem with the modern democratic party is that their guiding philosophy ignores reality in favor of a utopian fantasy land.
They subscribe to a Neo-Kantian philosophy where morality is judged by "good intentions" and "altruism", while reality [i.e. the results of their machinations], are considered irrelevant. Indeed they consider it immoral to do things for the sake of results, deeming that a "selfish" endeavor. As long as you "really care", nothing else is needed.
OOPS, I need to be clear that I am not inciting violence after Speaker Nancy's tearful speech. For the record Nancy, I am not saying that the crowd with pitch forks and torches will cause Mr. Deeds any harm.

Perhaps we can raise funds for mass transit by asking for donations, maybe the commuters should stand in street corners with tin cups or asking contruction worker to work for free? There is simply
It sounds like he wants to raise taxes on gas. He is only killing his chances of being elected by those comments. I hate politicians that group poor people in with rich people. The democrats picked the wrong candidate if he is going to think like a republican (ie. business and rich people before everybody else).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Businesses and the profit motive are what drives improved means of production that benefits everyone. That being said, it is highly immoral for government to give special favors to one business over another. Currently, it seems that the Democrats favor this tactic [stimulating wallstreet instead of mainstreet], whereas it is the republicans that have shown interest in the common man [stimulus checks].
Try and look at actions and results instead of subscribing to rhetoric. Talk is very cheap.

Kind of reminds me of Orwell: How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?
Well, it ain't workin' no more. Obama and the libs have overstepped so badly (along with GOP hacks) that We The People are gonna show 'em the door!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
tina7ron,
You are either dishonest of ill informed. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are ill-informed. So let me inform you. McDonnell's campaign manager in 2005 was a working mother. He appointed 5 women to senior staff as Attorney General."
Maureen McDonnell held a variety of positions with the federal government before they started a family she has since run small businesses out of the home. McDonnell's daughter Jeanine served in the Army in Iraq .
So does anyone still believe that politicians are the problem? it has become a sport, a game, to them. Politicians are playing us for fools, wake up everyone: The government are all on the same team, and guess who they're against.
So what? Deeds was crystal clear about his intentions, and they might involve an increase in the gas tax to pay for transportation. Big deal! Do you GOP crazies honestly believe that a statement about possibly raising gas taxes is going to be a deal-breaker for Virginians on the level of, say, writing a dissertation saying that working mothers are dangerous? McDonnell's an unacceptable extremist. You're going down!
I'm not a GOP crazy - as you put it - but I think the point is that he said he would not raise taxes......but he is willing to raise taxes. A tax is a tax - no matter where it comes from or what's called.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ummm ... yeah, it would be. Because Virginians know the difference between a paper written for college and a record of including women (even working mothers) at every level of his offices and campaigns over the years.
And yes, Virginians care about whether or not the governor will raise taxes, whether it's the state tax or on goods and services that we buy every day. Raising the gas tax is a dealbreaker with many Virginians, while something that McDonnell wrote over twenty years ago isn't.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
McDonnell said NOTHING of the sort, which you would know if you actually took the time to read the thesis. He was expressing his concern about parents leaving their children to institutional daycare. That is not an extremist position. McDonnell is not an extremist. And you should get used to his name...you'll be hearing it a lot over the next four years, often with the word "Governor" in front.
Everything's on the table except the general fund; he doesn't plan to raise taxes but he will if he has to in order to fund the transportation bill. What's not to understand? This is the kind of thing you get when candidates try to avoid giving opponents sound bytes for TV ads. If a higher gas tax is a deal-breaker, don't vote for him. But he's a more interesting and intelligent candidate than the boring "Warner/Kaine tradition" campaign strategy (or this snippet) suggests.

Matthew, that is because they do not call them taxes when they want to raise them. They call them fees.

You're going down!
jonfromcali 2 years ago
I'm not a GOP crazy - as you put it - but I think the point is that he said he would not raise taxes......but he is willing to raise taxes. A tax is a tax - no matter where it comes from or what's called.

Ummm ... yeah, it would be.
