hey I've watched some of your vids. you're pretty good. i'm kinda new to this game. is it easy to be a gunner?what are your tips to be an effective gunner against large monsters and small monsters?
Once you familiarize yourself with the behaviour of the monster, gunning can be quite easy and fun.
Make sure your gun allows for Cluster 2 shots, and carry the materials to craft them. In many cases, this will be your ammo of choice. Powerful and versatile; if you can aim at it, you can probably kill it using Cluster 2.
At higher levels, using just Cluster 2 will not be enough. You will need to exploit other tactic, such as Heroics+elemental shots, sleep-bombing, etc...
why would you use piercing shots when you can use rapid shots to break the horns and focus your attacks in its weak spot (the head)?
and if you are going to do a speed kill with piercing shot why would you use that bow when diablos and Daora's bow have higher levels or piercing shots and raw attack (great raw and elemental in daora's bow)?
and why lavasoth's armor when silver rathalos z armor has Large attk and piercing boost and focus(rapid gems)?
@ericktm I think I know why. He utilized the pierce up since the ceanataur bow has different levels of pierce for it and he wanted to keep piercing the Rajang to death. A smart choice I might say because he can abuse the damage increase, regardless of the level it charged. Am I right?

well, lets see. a smart choice would be to focus all your strength in its weak point which is the head as i mention before so the best type of shot would be rapid and not piercing since you only get 1 or 2 hits if you aim at the head the rest are body blows. rapid unlike pierce shots up to 4/5 arrows simultaneously in a single direction...so u tell me

As for the equipment, this was one of the only combinations that provided the skills needed to for me to take a massive hit and survive with 1HP remaining (rather than bomb myself), and prevent heat damage from the lava (which would kill immediately at 1HP).

This Rajan has the same attributes as any other Rajan, and I am not aware of any discrepancies between versions from different regions (nor should there be any).
In other words, since this little devil starts out in rage mode, it is as fast as a typical enraged Rajan.
HOWEVER, it is worth noting that it slows down when it goes into "double rage mode" (which is in contrary to the "normal" behaviour of enraged wildlife). This may be the reason why it seems to be slower than expected.
It starts out in rage mode, and therefore, its initial speed and attack power is increased accordingly.
When it goes into double rage mode, its attack is increased even more. However, while in double rage mode, it actually slows back down, and takes more damage.
I beated rajang with a long sword and its ice attrubution

Good, I like this kind of discussion. I've had people ask me this question before:
There were a lot of factors to be considered, but I didn't care for the horns.
The Inuki has Piercing 5 and has a natural level 4 charge. The extra charge level also has the effect of increased damage (~14% increase).
Body hits are ~75% as effective as head hits on the Rajan.
A full L5 Piercing shot has ~40% more damage capacity than a full L5 Rapid shot.
It works out to be almost the same.

Only for the hunting horn; you cancel with X.
It's effective instantly, so I can cancel and still get the attention of the monster.

# of Rajans: less than 50 then, less than 50 now; not much use for its parts/rewards
# of hours: of all the MH games, I play the PSP ones the most. The times shown on the savefiles total to about 4500 hours

If you're willing to risk getting one-hit-killed, you could probably do it in 15-20 minutes.
I played it really safe on my first encounter, and it took around 30 minutes.
