  • Tragicamente imbarazzante!

  • Non deve fare cose orende.!

  • The fact that he SINGS in a high pitch voice does not turn him into a woman. He is ACTING. It's not real. He doesn't think he IS Carmen, nor does he think he is any woman for that matter. He sings a song, that's all.

A few hundred years ago every female role in opera was sung by a man. Women were not alowed on stage or singing Mass, so the men did it. That did not make them any less of a man and noone was offended by them.

Loose the bigotry, please. It makes you look stupid.

  • April Fool's to you too! C'mon now! This is not serious stuff!!!

  • @mrantiquedealer Why should it be serious? It was the last encore of the concert! :)

  • Please, people, he is not playing Carmen, he's just singing an aria, out of context - it's not the same thing. He also sang "Lascia ch'io pianga", and I can't remember everybody getting histerical about "Oh, but it's the aria of the heroine, it should only be sung by a woman". The main difference is that the average audience knows Carmen better than Rinaldo...

Ps.) Is there anything in the lyrics that would indicate the gender of the singer? I must have missed it.

  • @fourmi1060 I love Philippe Jaroussky but I totally understand why you wouldn't like the sound of his voice.

  • Either way it's better than Katherine Jenkins :)

  • Grotesque!

  • Ugh. Angela Gheorghiu? What an over-hyped singer she is.

  • @rdeccp44 there are others who recieve the most staggering attention that they do NOT deserve... Angela may be over hyped but she earned it.

  • He sings this better than most women can. He just gets a lot of flack because he is a male singer performing a womans song. I don't see what the problem is...

  • @Justin110488 NO it 's absolutely untrue tthat he sings this better than women. He hasn't got half the voice of moste feminine interpreters of this part. And his diction is absysmal

  • @romondesbert - Do not misquote me, I said he sings it better than most women can. His version is by no means my personal favorite. I just meant I have heard some women on youtube ruin this song. I just think some of these comments are unnecessary.

  • juste grotesque !

  • I think he's even more dashing for daring to sing this! And he pulls it off.

  • This is so sensual and entrancing! I'm enamoured!

  • @lumiere137 me too!

  • Orribile,assurdo...

  • @fourmi1060 Have you heard the Habanera from Carmen sung by Andreas Scholl in his first venture in a CD called The Three Countertenors with D Visse and P Bertin? It was interesting and they did it in good fun!!!

  • PJ performs Carmen ... ridiculous and awful in one glass !!!!!

  • @spqrmor Have you heard the Habanera from Carmen sung by Andreas Scholl in his first venture in a CD called The Three Countertenors with D Visse and P Bertin? It was interesting and they did it in good fun!!!

  • @tuffy942 Andreas Scoll is respected counter-tenor but even he is rediculous performing Habanera. It's time for me to listen to Angela Gheorghiu.

  • what the....what is the man doing?

This is to be sung by a woman! It's a role for a woman and can not be sung by a man the proper way! He should stick to Baroque and classical periods. He is just wonderful at them and he shouldn't forget that he is a countertenor...

  • This video seems to have generated very excited opinions! De gustibus unum...

  • @suoidolem I love Lesne and Scholl too, but as for ignorant? You do not have to be a music expert to appreciate art. M Jaroussky 's success is due to his gifts and his industriousness, not just marketing and liaisons. You shortchange a young singer who has an incredible charisma. If you don't like him at least don't trash him!!

  • One of my favourite opera pieces, and this bloke does a LOVELY rendition of it- bravo, my son, bravo! :)

  • Philippe has the right to sing WHATEVER he wants!! He is a genius, even if some people don't like some of his versions (his french melodies, for exemple).

I think this is product of his curiosity and his desire to explore, wich also let us know music we didn't know (J-C Bach, for instance), and i think that is his originality and the secret of his success.

  • I SO totally agree erikamabra! He is so intelligent and original he sings stuff others haven't even thought of!!!!His talents are so varied and he educates us, his public, with gorgeously created pieces. He is a true artist!!!

  • Fatti operare.

  • Sorry but very stupid comment.

  • Though this piece is not for a man to sing, he sings it quite beautifully. I liked his voice too much, and he's a beautiful guy too. Congratulations! Yes,tuffy942, I wanted to watch him doing this piece. :) If you have the video, please add, and notice me. Thank you!

  • Him not singing all the high notes is most likely a personal musical choice. It doesn't ruin the piece just because he doesn't sing them. He isn't a male soprano, he's a countertenor. The queen of the night is a full dramatic soprano role. Even he can't go that high. Singing Shakira, would be an insult to his talent.

  • Your opinion my dear. Thousands enjoy him.

  • This really is too mutch! Why doesn't he sing also the queen of the night?....or maybe something of Shakira....

  • Guess what, you enjoy Shakira, while I will listen to PJ's gorgeous voice. Personally I believe I got the best one.Plus he can hit all the notes he needs.

  • Straricc, why do you want him to sing Mozart's Queen And can't he sing this one? I guess you should think a little bit more before posting anything. Be kinder and sensible!!!

  • NOOOO!!!!!! You should better ask Shakira to sing fra le procelle, or may be pianti i sospiri by Vivaldi!!!!!!

  • m Jaroussky is not a soprano male he is a mezzosoprano.

Besides, there are several versions of queen of the night sung by soprano males!!!

  • m Jaroussky is not a soprano male he is a mezzosoprano.

there are several versions of queen of night sung by soprano males.

  • But why he doens´t sing both the high notes?

  • to.die.for.

  • my favorite Bizet masterpiece from carmen

    thanks maria

i wish all tracks from Granada festival

is including in his upcoming melodies french
