  • That sitar player kicks ass, sounds very cool!

  • BJ THOMAS IS REALLY A GOOD SINGER OF HIS TIME CLASSIC

  • Ooga chaga!

  • Just heard this song today !

  • WAY COOL! B.J. Thomas is awesome and no, BJ does not stand for THAT! Get your minds outta of the gutter. This is a ladies' man! Check out that weird guitar like shamisenesque thing!

  • @bluetortilla Right! BJ stands for Billy Joe. He's a true Texan!

  • Its such an inspiration to hear BJ sounding so strong. God Bless you BJ!

  • Love to hear his beautiful voice, he is coming to Alton Illinois on July 17, 2011, am excited about his debut in my home town, will be there to hear him sing

  • You just don't hear enough electric sitars in music today, y'know?

  • Excellent singer. My mom went out with him back in the day before he hit it big; back when he was hanging with Roy Head. She has nice things to say about the guy. He's about the only person who can sing this song. I don't like when other people cover signature songs, because as in the case with this one, this is HIS. Okay, maybe Blue Swede gets a free pass, but nobody else. LOL.

  • the only one that can sing as well in his 60's is steve perry

  • @bamitsmeggy2 I dunno...I think Neil Diamond can as well...and he's got ten years on Steve. And this, from a big Journey fan going back to the dawn of MTV!

  • Dedicated to my LUNA Girl, the woman of my DREAM'S, My Wowo LUNA STAR.

I have been saying your name forever, now that you have materialized and we are in the same Galaxy, I will do everything to travel the cosmos with you. I have asked my heavenly family to iluminate my journey to reunite with you. I am el Sr LUNA Cortez looking for you my fountain of light.

  • OMG once you are hooked... just give it all up to her ;)

  • the 70s era had the best music worldwide

  • went to c BJ last night at Regal Perth. Brilliant!!

  • I Love this song, Thanks for Posting. We play all these great classics and more at

TOMA'S TIMELESS TUNES, I'd love you to stop by and give a listen. seems like we love the same type music. I'd love to have you stop by. I subscribed to your Channel, Hope you'll do the same for me. thanks again. Tommy toma.

  • Still in great voice!

  • Esso que es muzica!

  • man, Thomas has kept his FINE voice for a very long time!! I used to know a guy who could sound just like BJ Thomas when he sang. His name was Michael D. Henderson, he played all over the Southeast. One band he was in was "Papa Joe and the Rest." Played in Pensacola and Ft. Walton way back. Henderson could play trumpet & keyboard at the same time. Henderson also toured with Jimmy Ellis, aka Orion.

  • My childhood friend wrote this song, Mark James. There will never be another era of songwriters like Mark... & many others. Oh, also never another BJ either. Love you

    BJ.

  • this song warmed my heart way back in 1968 when it was fresh.....the melody is luscious and the meloncholy this tune brings me is heart wrenching.

  • An electric Sitar!!!! I have seen it all now!!!!

  • haha bj

  • LOVE BJ THOMAS!!!! THANKS!!!XOXO

  • No ooga-chagas necessary.

  • @UncleMikeNJ True! Blue Swede should be banned! :)

  • What kind of sitar is that

  • My First Kiss was at Disneyland with NanCy in the Alice In Wonderland ride and of course this song shot through me and it became our song...That was 42 years ago...We still are in contact with each other and we still love this song!

  • @meanmon fag

  • @lkkjhg45 Its amazing how one can hide behind a social site and fling insults at people. It shows what type of person you are and the type of upbringing you had...Too Bad, I'm sure you could be a semi-decent person...but then again I could be wrong. Good luck in life if it hasn't already beaten you down.

  • Beautiful....seems like times never passed by. You guys still rock. Blessings!

  • This has been my all time favorite song since the mid-60's. B J has and always will be number 1 with me. I have a photo of he and I arm in arm and I even got a kiss!!

  • This takes me waaaay back. Saw BJ Thomas in Augusta, GA in summer of 1969 after High School graduation. Will never, ever forget it.

  • Awesome

  • this goes back toi my dog face soldiering days god bless all of my bros welcome home !!!

  • Great song, thanks

    Mitch

  • what u think of this, lalla hold on gotta hit my pipe

  • wow cool

    far out!

    lol

  • The first time I heard this song it blew me away !!!! What a romantic song

  • LOVE this song! Wish they still made music like this.

  • what's the name of that instrument...?

  • @cowboyoti Sitar

  • @cowboyoti I think that is an electric sitar....that's an Indian instrument.

  • @cowboyoti I believe it's an Electric Sitar.

  • Such great music they bad back in the day! Breaks my heart that such great classics are being forgotten and that the younger generation will never understand the true meaning of real music.

  • Still great

  • haha BJ attended my rival school. that's so cool. Lamar Junior High

  • hey looking for a song called doctor god by bj thomas ?? any collectors here

  • WOW the riffs are amazing!

  • Good Day!

BJ Thomas still does a terrific song justice!

    Tre's Bien! Yes I'm a fan also!

  • Ouga Chaka Ouga Ouga Chaka.....

  • @blueticecho ouga chaka is what ruined this song a cheap attempt by blue swede to remake this song always hated their version moron

  • @25daveman I hated that version too! My dad used to play it on our barroom jukebox, and it pissed all the customers off!

  • This song first then "RaindropS"

  • wow, that's an electric sitar he's playing!

  • BJ's voice sounds just as good as the video from 1970. Who's that on the guitar-- great!

  • Soooooooo A W E S O M E !!!! Please, don't ever stop singing ! I love it. B.J.Thomas Especial de Fim de Ano -DVD Musical 2004 incluido varios sucessos legendados e com traduçao. GREAT DVD !

  • The original is Almost as good as the Hasselhoff cover but not quite.

  • EXELENTE!!!!!!!

  • Excellent B.J., Thanks for the music. Hartley C.

  • He's still cute! Go BJ!

  • Golly, he's still a nice looking guy. I love this song.

  • After seeing the Hasselhoff version of this, I just can't take this seriously. Oooga Chacka Hooga Hooga Oooga Chacka!

  • ever since 2000 this song has kept me high on believin'. For the last 9 years had no idea who sang it.Saw him when I was a kid @many CA fairs. But never knew he sang this song.

  • Go sing forever, BJ.

    Enjoy listening to you.

  • We saw him at Walt Disney World a while back. The guy sounds exactly the same as he did when he first recorded this song, as well as the others he did.

  • i got it bad for you and i don't need a cure makes more sense then I got him back for you. just saying

  • This was me and my ex's song....well at least something good came out of the relationship. I will never forget this song or him :)

  • I don't think 10% of the singers today will last.. The "old timers" are the best :) B.J and my Dad were roomates back in the 80's in marina del rey... .. just thought i would brag a little.... lol

  • your not jking are you

  • nope, not joking at all

  • @fightingthebs I envys you...

    T_T

  • @fightingthebs your dad stayed with my 2nd cousin? thats awesome!! oh yeah and btw I am related to BJ thomas. lol

  • @fightingthebs

    Only 10%?

I'm convinced 90% or higher won't last to become an old timer that anyone would want to go listen to.

  • @fightingthebs Is it true B.J. did a little Coke back then?

  • @fightingthebs That's awesome! I live about 5 miles from Marina Del Rey and didn't even know that BJ was from that area. This song was popular, when I was a kid and I practiced this song so I could sing it to my girlfriend at the time, but never had the chance to...

  • @fightingthebs Really ?

  • BJ Thomas, Mel Carter, Tom Jones, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis, Engelbert Humperdink, Al Green, all these great crooners from the mid 60's to the mid 70's are in their 60's & 70's and they can all still sing. I wonder will any of these techonology produced "singer" of today will still be able to sing in their 60's

  • I seriously doubt it... if fact I'm not sure a lot of them can sing live without help... hehe.

Guess that's why talent will always win out in my book... :)

    Thanks for the upload!!

  • Amen

  • @neneshubby Just watched the vid today... and saw your comment as one of the top rated... true. Sad thing is, a lot of them (today's robosingers) can't sing now (ha ha, let them all praise Auto-Tune)

  • @neneshubby Lets pray to God that singers today won't be heard in their 60's, fortunately for todays boy bands once the facial hair starts appearing, they're almost ready to be put to sleep.

  • @neneshubby Why does it matter. Your parents said the same about your music. Now look at you doing the same. Our life is about to be over what song would like us to play for you?

  • @neneshubby Of course they'll still be able to "sing" because the it's the technology that's helping them sing.

  • JUST GREAT!!

  • Comment removed

  • The drummer is your dad? He's great!

    You must be proud!

  • *****+

  • great song but I am trying to find his song called (two car garage)

  • Thanks :)

  • You're welcome! I just happen to be watching this video so I can learn to play this song on my electric (sitar) guitar (that I built) It's basically a guitar with a (Gotoh Buzz Bridge) It just so happens also, that this video inspired both the creation of the (sitar} as well as the learning of the song.

  • What kind of guitar or sitar is that at the beginning of the song? BJ Thomas I've always just melted to see him he is sooo amazing!

  • It's a Danelectro. I believe it is called a

    "Sergeant".

  • Nice love song, pretty song. Great singer.

  • I'm glad they put this song on here.I've always loved this song.He has such a beautiful voice.

  • Great! My father toured with BJ in the late 70's and early 80's as his his drummer! What a voice!

  • Hi,,,thanks for the comment...I was not on Sceptre...but I was managed by Dionne Warwick who was on Sceptre records ...the management company was called Wand Management...and BJ and Dionne were managed by them...the name of our manager was Paul Cantor and this was in the Sceptre records office...my brother and I

were produced by Dionne and the record which was called THE DESTRUCTION OF DAWN STREET came our on Capital records...we were signed to them by Artie Kornfeld who produced WOODSTOCK.

  • Nice sittare.

  • who in the world decided the remake needed that ugga chaka crap? this is a gorgeous song, and this is the way it should be played

  • Jonathan King "decided" that, he was like the Weird Al of the 70´s and still active (I think). Then Bengt Palmers picked the tune for Blue Swede and had a smash hit with it, #1 in USA and all over Europe. Lead singer was Björn Skifs who is a very talented singer from Sweden.

  • I belive the "Oga Chaka" was in the first recording.

  • Nope.

  • No, BJ had the original hit although that sweedish band covered it soon after, like within a few years. By the way, D. Hassel...

couldn't carry BJ Thomas' jock strap.

  • OH gosh, i had forgotten that yuk, OK time to forget it again,

hear BJ live if you can, him and the band are still awesome , take you back intime and just magic!

  • Bj and I were managed by Paul Cantor is New York up at Sceptre Records...he is a sweet guy ...and has really gone through a lot and he has survived

  • This was one of my favorite songs from my 8th grade year. That's so cool that you were on the same record label with BJ. Did you have a song that I might remember? Peace.

  • What great song back then. They sang too.

  • nice song.

  • Great geetar !! Oldie but goodie style!

    Thank You!

  • My first 'rock' concert...1977!

  • At least he still sounds like himself. His voice is still good.

  • This Song Rocks I love It!!!!

  • I remember when B. J. Thomas came to Bogalusa Louisiana and sang for us, it was great!

  • I love to see this video. He is like wine produced from an excellent harvest.

Nós brasileiros amamos de paixão B.J.Thomas.

  • I love to see this video. He is like wine produced from an excellent harvest.

Nós brasileiros amamos de paixão B.J.Thomas.

  • I love this video.

    Nós brasileiros amamos B.J.Thomas e não o

    esquecemos jamais.

  • He's still got it, this was in Nov 07 afew months ago in Knoxville, TN, I was there and it was great, he sounds even better live!

I love that guitar, I think it is a sitar? both muscians played it great!

  • Banjo

  • Electric Sitar.

It's an instrument more like a guitar with a sitar sound.

  • its a Jerry jones "Baby Sitar" Model.

  • omg i danced to this song when i was 6

  • Yeah! i agree with you too redwalls76!

  • He still sound great and he has taken good care of himself. That the way to do it.

  • OOgga chucka oogga chucka

  • hahahahah

  • God I hate the Hasselhoff version of this song.

  • wow youve still got it B.J. go B.J. you rock my sox!!!!!

  • great song

  • I forgot to say how much I have always loved T. WIld's playing on the Sitar, thanks smokeydog3 , he is great, I think he's been with BJ all these 30+yrs, and gives that distinctive sound!! BJ always takes time to introduce his band and if you meet him you can't believe what a sweetheart he is. Didn't this go number one? I remember it being really BIG, well all his songs were really BIG!!

  • You don't get lead guitar playing any better than this do you. But is this instrument known as an "electric sitar". Clearly to me it is a guitar with a special tone. But the combination of this instrument, BJ Thomas' voice and a great song as well makes this a personal classic in my mind.

Useful to have a drummer who can sing nice harmony too!

  • GEE, thank you so much for this, I have heard BJ live 5 times throughout his career. This looks recent as I saw him just before Christmas 07, finding some great BJ on utube, I love it! My all time favorite singer/voice,

Funny, he can do ELvis and Elvis did some BJ songs too, but I have always loved BJ's voice, time stands still for this singer, He's still GOT IT! Love you BJ!!!!

  • Is this BJ Thomas? Oh, he floods back memories for me. That was when my husband n I dated and he played it for me to listen. So nice of u to post this. Thanks so much. Without 'youtube' I'd forgotten about BJ Thomas.

  • Reference??

  • "Hooked on a Feeling" is a 1969 pop song written by Mark James originally performed by B. J. Thomas."

"In 1974 the Swedish pop group Blue Swede with Björn Skifs as lead singer did a cover, with the ooka shaka introduction, that reached number one in the USA, and was revived on the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack in 1992."

Quoted from Wikipedia. Björn Skifs covered this guy, not the other way around.

  • You are correct, sir!

  • BJ still sounds great! Thanks for posting this video.

  • One of my all time favorites! Great performance!

  • Guy playing Sitar is T. Wild, a studio musician.

  • Now that is what I call PROFESSIONAL !!!!! :)

  • one of the best songs

  • great, beautiful song thanks for this video

  • Written by the great songwriter Mark James who for Elvis wrote Suspicious Minds, Always On My Mind , Raised On Rock & finally Moody Blue

  • electric sitar

  • Jonathan King also had a UK hit with this song in the early 70s - Thanks for posting

  • 5 STARS!!

  • Blue Swede version beats this hands down

  • cant believe you feel that way since this is the original but to each his own

  • in the same way that Mariah Carey`s version of Without You is better than Nilsson`s !

Blue Swede`s version turned a great song into into a novelty song with their `ooga chacka` .

  • i love em both

  • That's an interesting electric sitar - the body looks a lot like a banjo.

  • it's a banjo , an electric banjo

  • Not with that sound, it isn't.

  • Agreed. Definately an electirc sitar.

  • I know the guy that did the original version of this for the record. He was a seesion musican in new york and great guitar player,

  • That is very cool. Tell him I said hi. : )

  • I will do that...

  • The original guitar player on the record was Reggie Young.

  • Anyone have a copy of BJ doing the "ooga chacka" version?

  • BJ didn't do the "ooga chaka" version. It was sung by an english guy, can't remember his name. Personally this one does it for me, I just love the electric Sitar! Sorry bud.

  • A group called Blue Sweude did the ooga chaka version.

  • Or a swede since the group's called "Blue Swede" with Björn Skifs

  • I don't know if BJ Thomas ever did that version himself. The song you might be looking for was done by Blue Swede - same title.

You can find it posted on YouTube several times.

  • BJ Thomas never did the ooga chacka version that was added by anthoer Writer and then done by blue swede in 1974

  • nothing compared to the hoff, what a rip off.

  • Bull shit this is the original
