  • From this song onward they were an amazing band, no matter what they did. Without Bilinda it just isn't them.

  • The drummer is an animal on this. It's a brilliant tune, but that thug drumming makes this better than brilliant. Yay!

  • @zappi23 Yeah, I kinda wish they were louder on this one. I love his drumming on this EP and Isn't Anything.

  • This song is the only song that makes me happy ahaha

  • great song,thx

  • Bilinda sounds like an air creature, spirit, or something... as always

  • i love this fucking song!! you dont even need to "aproach it from behind" to love it as long your not stupid to love good music like most people are now a days...

  • @henryvamp True, sometimes we just make excuses why stupid people don't like good music. God people are so stupid these days!

  • @MightyMartel Forgive them God because they don't what they listen

  • 2 people got hung over on strawberry wine.

  • I used to get angry when people confused Bullet for My Valentine and My Bloody Valentine. I now commit arson when people think Deana Carter wrote this.

  • @JackWMS14

Only went to Moles the once for that MBV gig. I tried swinging a cat but its ears kept catching on the walls.

  • I can't express how beautiful this song is so I'll just leave it at that.

  • this song gets better every time i hear it!!

  • saw them at Moles in Bath in early Oct 1988. I'd hitched up from West Cornwall with a friend only to be told that Moles was a members only club with a capacity of about 10. Called the club and blagged a conversation with Colm who put us on the guestie. Shared a few beers and spliffs with them after. What a lovely unassuming lot. You Made Me Realise remains firmly in my Top 5 EPs of all time. You cannot underestimate their influence although they would admit the debt they to JaMC.

  • @BarneyRubble1968 Haha, Moles is proper fucking tiny, have you been inside? Would of been great to see them there though! I always went to there on Sundays for the U18 battle of the bands, nice little venue.

  • I can't have enough of all this freshness. It's unforgettable and also a cool song to play on a 12-strings guitar.

  • This song gets me moving instantly, I love the way it starts. I'm so glad I have this band in my life.

  • Yes! another song that beats the shit out of most of "Loveless"!!!

  • this song is TOO LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kelloggcerealxoxo

    Methinks that be impossible

  • @kelloggcerealxoxo

Tell me about it, it's clipping like crazy.

  • holw rrote this

  • Anyone who hates loveless isn't listening to it like it should be. You have to approach it from behind, as apposed from the front. Focus on the in between sound.

  • @dano555666 that's a nice way to look at it..but who in their right mind doesnt like Loveless

  • @dano555666 Actually, it's a little simpler than that, because as much as we'd like to think liking MBV is some kind of feat, it's not. The reality goes more like this: anyone who doesn't enjoy Loveless has shit taste.

  • @dano555666 do you listen to loveless or fuck it?

  • 66,666th viewer :D MBV RULES!

  • still got the 12 inch in the cupboard - classic!

  • I'm just starting to listen to MBV; so, I'm totally coming from my arse here. But, I can't figure out why people like Loveless so much. It's like an orgasm recorded over a meaningless idea. The riffs are catchy, but the main appeal is the high volume/ high distorted guitars. That's it... I'm really starting to fall in like with their older stuff, though. It's not an orgasm, but it's not obnoxious, either. Anyone else like their older stuff more, too? (Again, I probably need to listen more...)

  • @Sudhish86 Loveless sounds more like being in love, than being in love does.

  • @poncepilateify, lol...I'd say "dilusional" and, maybe, "lost"...

  • This makes me think of the movie "Blow Up"

  • Awesome song!!;)

  • belle and sebastian ripped this song off. listen to Le Pastie de la Bourgeoisie

  • @talktal nice catch

  • @talktal though it could be unintentional

  • @talktal Why would anybody voluntarily listen to Belle and Sebastian?

  • @minedarea come on! they're not that bad are they?

  • @brilliantfranz It's a matter of opinion, of course. Personally I'm not a fan of Belle and Sebastian, even their name annoys me.

  • now thats what i call indie.

  • kevin sheilds taught me how to play...

  • Misty morning in the springtime

    Close your eyes, crystal eyes

On the darkside let the light shine

Please, please stay with me tonight

These lips will find strawberry wine

  • An enchanting band that is very much timeless.

  • This album was released before mbv signed to Creation records, but, God, does this sound like an early Creations record. Doesnt it?

  • I can sing every word subconsciously.<3

  • Can anyone else taste this song?

  • @BeTheDeathOfMe sweet with a touch of chili and a little alcohol. You kinda wanna lie on the floor eating it all day.

  • these lips will find strawberry wine

  • @vialpandojosiah Judging from your page I already know you're a total idiot.

  • @vialpandojosiah If you don't like it, then It confuses me why you would even bother to comment.

  • Wow - what a find. The 1960s meets MVP - retro-shoe gazing at its best. Glorious.

  • Man this song is amazing!

  • like the Byrds on speed ...

lovely peeps MBV.. saw them in colchester and colm fell off his drum stool... arose and did a keith moon for the next half hour or so

  • Listening to this song, I totally see where All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors got their influence. A lot of their songs sound JUST LIKE THIS; it's wonderful <3<3<3

  • Oh my God! There's so much MBV stuff on You Tube I never even heard before!! I just love this band. One of the best bands ever along with the Pixies.

  • another genius track.brings bk soooo many memories.i fucking love this band \m/

  • Such a different sound to what im used to of them... Which is basically 'loveless'

  • join my band com

  • Drum-wise it has the same kind of rhythm as Feed Me With Your Kiss. Interesting to hear how these ideas come around.

  • Drum-wise it has the same kind of rhythm as Feed Me With Your Kiss. Interesting to hear how these ideas come around.

  • mbv was genius indeed. i heard they were back together this decade breifly? is that true?

  • @CrpzGrndrKrnx

Yeah, they are touring at the moment I think :)

  • My Bloody Valentine was the best concert I ever attended; and that was in Chapel Hill, NC back in 1992.

  • what a brillant band, pity there isnt more music with such passion, good taste and creativness, though i guess its a good thing seeing only those who look deeper into the music scene are lucky enough to come across such good music

  • it has a 60s vibe mixed with some early 90s video game music

  • 60's jangly indeed

  • Anybody heard the alternate version of this song?I read somewhere that the original 7" had a different take of this.True?

  • I don't think that is true. I have the 7" version of this EP (not ecstasy and wine), and it sounds exactly the same. If anything, the fidelity is a little lower.

  • Thanks for the info anivisibleshadow.

  • takes me back, one of the first singles I bought in my teens.

  • wow....never heard any material other than Loveless...this is AWESOME!

  • In that case you gotta check out 'Isn't Anything' (Album) and 'You Made Me Realise' and 'Feed Me With Your Kiss' (both EPs).

  • I've got them - all excellent !

  • Wonderful! Takes me back, sigh...

  • lol, i wonder where the pains got their sound from

  • Suenan como The Smiths... me gusta, me transmite nostalgia.

  • has a real 60s folky feel to it - nice

  • There's always something pure and elemental about MBV compared to other (if you insist on the term) "shoegaze" bands. Whether it's the pure wistful beauty of this song, or the pure fire and chaos of the heavy tracks on _Loveless_.

I have to admit, I attribute this to Shields's being Irish, while most of the other shoegaze bands were Brits. MBV belong to Irish music.

  • you're right. & i'm english.

i appreciate some of slowdive's music,

for example, but theres always something

too sterile in comparison. it's also a visual

    thing. MBV have amazing visuals...

  • lol, too much alcohol on the plane maybe?

  • i think the swirlies provide a very "pure" american counterpoint, but otherwise i more or less agree

  • ure great

  • @classof77 Shields actually isn't Irish. He was born in New York and moved to Dublin when he was a kid. As far as I know, the rest of the members were Irish, though, and Kevin might be ethnically Irish. Obviously growing up in such an awesome country would have an effect on him, too, I guess.

    Basically, awesome Irish band.

  • @cholocharile basically, awesome band

  • @cholocharile Shields and the drummer are both ethnic Irish. The ladies of the band are English.

  • @classof77 i thought shields was American and the rest of them were Irish

  • @CrazyDan1984 Bilinda and Debby are both English - Colm and Kevin are both Irish. (Early MBV were all Irish though).

  • @classof77

Kevin is Irish but spent his early years growing up in America.

  • @classof77 do shut up

  • @classof77

    do shut up

  • One of those songs that makes me feel young again

  • I got this album online. I feel really bad because I'd rather pay for an album, especially from My Bloody Valentine. But the fact is that it is so hard to find and the copies that are available are so expensive. I just couldn't resist, the music is too good. I can't wait to gladly pay my money for the new album.

  • You can get these songs on the double LP titled Before Loveless. It also includes much of their other earlier work.

  • @cardigansarecool I agree with you on that; I hate downloading music, but like you said either too rare or expensive. But then you have the housemoms and 12 year olds stealing all of the Billboard chart-toppers off the internet and making us look bad.

  • I am priviliged to have this album on vinyl, and all the tracks are so special... jaunty, bouncy, even melodic. I saw them last year in Manchester..... the end of the session was literally 23 minutes of feedback... 23 minutes!!!! Like a plane engine overhead.... but refusing to move. The stewards were handing out ear plugs... it was intense! To play constantly like that for 27 minutes is pretty hard-core. I loved the gig and I love this band.

  • The backing vocals are lounder than the main vocals! Probably the only song to do that.

  • The opening rift souunds like 'Hand In Glove' by the smiths played backwards!

  • choppy omega

  • yeah, all you got to do is just import the CD into the itunes library. I think it may be available through the "buy used from other sellers" bit off amazon.

  • @66trucker N00B!

  • @66trucker download it for free from mediafire.

type mbv - ecstasy & wine mediafire on google and download.....for free

  • Do you think they ripped this off from Caravans "winter wine" the male voice is similar.

  • This has been one of my favourite My Bloody Valentine songs ever since I heard it. I agree with you exactly on the video description - everyone must hear this song.

  • I'd be quite happy if they'd play this song next time I'll see them (in August).

  • what? tehyyy have tour dates?! where whaa

  • @ La Route du Rock festival in Saint-Malo, France : Saturday August 14th.

  • I bought this CD about 15 years ago and always got in a sentimental an at the same time very energetic mood. When I listen to it now the feelings come back to my heart. I d love to go to a festival with friends, listen to that kind of music and get crazy....

Thx for reminding me of this song

  • this helped me find a place of me that was damaged by a girl, it feels good to back

  • you have to understand that most people who listen to this band, are basically or atleast half deaf. Thats includes me.

  • Great song. To bad I can't find it on limewire. I also can't find any of their stuff on here with the exception of live performances. Can anybody recommend some other good songs by them?

  • The Loveless LP is the best starting point. Every track is strong and the whole album has a wonderful aura.

  • This is the sort of song that conjures up images and emotions that you can almost touch, but are just out of reach...

It's so frustrating to brush past ecstasy like this.

  • This is exactly what I feel when listening to early MBV. This bizarre feeling that I can only compare to a mix of splendour, hapiness and nostalgia

  • @limecure

Beautifully said...another song called "Pale Spectre" by The Wake gives me that similar feeling of being just out of reach.

  • @limecure beautiful comment :) greetings from Australia wherever you are.

  • i have a new favorite band

  • Glorious, classic 80's summer song . Sometimes I wish they'd stayed as this and not taken the Creation road to something less beautiful.

  • all their different styles of music over the years has been equally as beautiful to me. never say goodbye is totally different than i only said but i love both of them the same.

  • I'd tend to agree with you

They did this very Syd Barrett-ish psychedelia very well and I think "To Here Knows When" is the best track on Loveless, which takes that sound to a totally different dimension
